The objective of the paper is to study the causes and contemporary trends in suburbanization in the Zagreb environs using the example of the Bistra Municipality. Special emphasis will be placed on research into immigration as a process explicitly linked to the residential suburbanization of Zagreb, and the interaction between Bistra and Zagreb/Zaprešić through the functions of labor, provisioning and the fulfillment of the cultural needs of Bistraćs residents.
