Knjižnica 49(2005)3, 95-111 9 6 higher education in the light of Bologna Declaration (1999) has stimulated a consider- ation of changes in education for cataloging and knowledge organization at the De- partment of Library and Information Science and Book Studies at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. A two level university program (3+2 years) is suggested by the Bologna Declaration. A proposed stepwise learning for cataloging and knowledge organization is intended to consider the functions of a library catalog on the one hand and to enable students for various degrees of specialization on the other. In each year of study one or more courses would be offered that would increase theoretical and scientific level of topics according to the knowledge acquired in previous courses. However, theoretical knowledge should be enhanced by practical work , therefore courses should provide practical training and internship. After graduation a period of introducing novices should remain an essential part of training. Professional librari- ans should see continuing educaiton as an integral part of their careers. Key words: cataloging, knowledge organization, education, universities 1 Uvodno pojasnilo Zaradi reforme univerze v skladu z Bolonjsko deklaracijo (Bologna Declaration, 1999), smo se tudi na Oddelku za bibliotekarstvo, informacijsko znanost in knji- garstvo Filozofske fakultete v Ljubljani začeli ukvarjati s prenovo študijskih programov. Med tem procesom sem analizirala tuje programe in članke na to temo. Premišljevala sem predvsem o tem, kaj bi bilo treba študentom ponuditi, da bi lahko kakovostno opravljali delo v knjižnicah in tudi zato, da bi se lahko zapos- lili izven knjižnic. Čeprav moja premišljevanja izhajajo iz skupnih oddelčnih idej, tu predstavljam samo osebno mnenje. Zato tudi niso predlagani načini iz- vedbe takega programa. Upam, da bo moje prizadevanje spodbudilo k podobne- mu premišljevanju še koga. Vesela bom, če se mi bo oglasil-a. 2 Kakšni sta vloga in smisel kataloga? Naši učitelji so zapisali: “Knjižnični katalogi so urejen popis zaloge določene knjižnice. (…) so po eni strani namenjeni uporabniku, ki z njihovo pomočjo ugotavlja, ali ima knjižnica gradi- vo, ki mu je potrebno, kakšno gradivo je to in v kateri skupini UDK ali pod katero signaturo je shranjeno, knjižničarju pa so katalogi tudi važen pripomoček za smotrno dopolnjevanje knjižničnega fonda, saj mu povedo, kako je založen z lite- raturo s posameznih področij znanosti in umetnosti.” (Osnove, 1987, str. 113)
