Knjižnica 44(2000)1-2 Professional article UDC 303.822-053.5/.6:023 Abstract The collected data on the research activity in primary and secondary schools of Ljubljana shows that the majority of schools enable their students to engage in these activities. The research covers all fields of science, although the definitions of these have not been uniform, which renders them incomparable with each other, particularly when the researcher is followed up through different periods of life. The support available for this activity is relatively good, as compared to its insufficient promotion and use, not only in schools and libraries but also in a broader environment. The mentorship in research projects should also include librarians of different library types, participating in the research activity of the youth on an equal footing, as co-mentors. Adequate knowl- edge of the research activity of the youth along with permanent education of both mentors and librarians should contribute to quantitative and qualitative advances in the acquisition and use of different publications and other sources of information. By adopting uniform criteria for work and definition of youth research processes we could obtain more professionally relevant and comparable results. Keywords: young people, mentors, librarians, research projects, secondary school chil- dren, primary school children, Ljubljana Uvod Človekova raziskovalna pot gre skozi različna življenjska obdobja, od katerih je odraščanje, razvijanje, izobraževanje in vzgajanje najpomembnejše ravno v mladosti. Prava pot vsebuje ustvarjalnost, inovativnost in znanje ter odkrivanje nadarjenosti. Celovita osebnost odraža dejavnike kot so družinsko okolje, socialno - ekonomski status, interesne dejavnosti ter razlike med spoloma. Lahko bi rekli, da živimo v nekem "življenjskem mavričnem krogu". Starši, naši vzorniki, učitelji in družba v celoti v naši zgodnji mladosti močno vplivajo na naš razvoj in naše odločitve. Raziskovati začnemo že v dobi zgodnjega otroštva z opazovanjem sveta, ki nas obdaja. Nato raziskujemo vsebine šolskih učnih predmetov, se vključujemo v različne raziskovalne tabore, pripravljamo seminarske in raziskovalne naloge, pišemo referate, postanemo mladi raziskovalci v dodiplomskem in podiplomskem študiju in nazadnje smo pravi odrasli raziskovalci na področju lastnega življenja in dela. Da bi naše raziskovanje potekalo bolj zanimivo in strokovno, pa se skozi vsa ta obdobja veliko pogovarjamo, pišemo, beremo, se informiramo, uporabljamo različne medije, kot so knjige, revije, radio, televizija, računalnik, obiskujemo knjižnice in druge ustanove. 172
