Janez Ludvik Schönleben

A Ljubljana theologian, historian and writer Janez Ludvik Shönleben (1618-1681) is the author of numerous speeches, theological works, genealogies of the Carniolan noble families and historical overviews. Some of his most important works are Aemona vindicata (Salzburg: Haan, 1674) and the historical topography Carniolia Antiqua et Nova (Ljubljana: Mayr, 1680-1681), which includes a chronicle of the Carniolan territory from the late antiquity until the year 1000. Schönleben invited Janez Vajkard Valvasor to help him to prepare the chronicle and their cooperation resulted in one of the most important works of the Slovenian historiography - The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola. Schönleben was also an exceptional orator and the initiator of the Mayr Ljubljana printing house.
The collection cointains a selection of Schönleben's works that were appropriate for digitization and are kept by the National and University Library of Slovenia.
