UDC 389.6:026(73:497.12) SLAJPAH Mara, Standards for Special Libraries, Knjižnica, Ljubljana 1972, vol. 16, No 1/4 In her article the author points out that the standards of the special libraries incorporated in the Special Library Association in New York differ from the standards of other kinds of libraries, which is to be accounted for by a different kind of work and tasks of special libraries. Since it is even the special libraries of the same or of different kinds which differ among themselves, the standards contain few quantitative assessments but generally only a descrip tion of the positive elements present in the tasks and working procedures of special libraries. The six profiles of eminent American special libraries should in a way make up for the quantitative stan dards. A comparison of two profiles of Slovene special libraries (The Information-Documentation Centre at the Technological Institute of the Rubber Manufacturing Industry “Sava”, Kranj; and the Docu mentation Department at “Iskra” Institute of Automatization, Ljub ljana) shows that both Departments are run in the sense of modem special libraries as well as that we can take over the standards of the Special Library Associations, and — suitably adapted — intro duce them into our special libraries.
