SCIENTIFIC ARTICLES
Nowadays, when science develops its presence around us in such an obvious manner, it is more and more important to provide quick, easy and wide access to academic achievements. Therefore, we have started to develop the portal dLib.si with a collection of key scientific and scholarly journals. The portal offers the full searchable text and also provides a search by bibliographic data. It depends on the publishers for individual issues availability. Currently available titles:

ARTICLES
Journals and newspapers are an essential primary source for research of the Slovene past. They reflect the Slovene and international world events and they captured a rich slice of cultural, political and social life. As their value is increased through time and online accessibility, we have created a special older articles database providing full-text search and search of bibliographic data. The following early Slovene periodicals are available:

JOURNALS
This is a very practical database of predominantly professional publications. They are published as a whole, so that you can browse the articles and informative supplements in one document. The latter are often a very important part of the text itself and a valuable part of the professional publication. We have decided to published them as a whole for easier browsing, as the publication often forms a complete unit, which would lose in its transparency with any intervention. The following titles are currently included:

Older Journals:

PHOTOGRAPHS
Time in frames and exceptional memories built on the basis of simple pictures. These are stored herein this database. The photographs of the poets Anton Aškerc, Karel Destovnik Kajuh, Prešeren's daughter Ernestina Jelovčan, the bishop Anton Jeglič, senators of the Drava Banovina and many others; there are also connoisseurs of the past – the postcards - with Jurij Vega, France Prešeren, old Ljubljana; caricatures of Maksim Gaspari and Hinko Smrekar; reproductions of Ivan Cankar's drawings and manuscripts…together there are more than 9500 items. Interesting, educational and amusing!

BOOKS
Every nation is a creator of its own cultural history, however, nobody can do it without books. The database provides free access to the treasures of the Slovenian »Moderna« like Ivan Cankar's Erotika, Nina, Hlapci; Dragotin Kette's Poezije; Josip Murn's Pesmi in romance. For the admirers of poetic realism, the collection includes Janko Kersnik and his work Kmetske slike. The historians will be enthusiastic over the great number of books from the 19th century including the old religious texts as well as school readings, and also the wonderful Pravljica o Zlatorogu. A treasure of special kind is the first book translation of Richard Wagner's opera Lohengrin. The database includes books from 1830 onwards.

SHEET MUSIC
If music ever allows to be caught, that happens only through a music notation. Instrumental as well as choir works are available via the sheet music database. In more than 1000 records, you can access the works of the Ipavec family, Danilo Fajgelj, Risto Savin, Stanko Premrl, Emil Adamič, Slavko Osterc, Marij Kogoj, and many others; you can discover the arrangements of the Slovenian folk songs and the songs from the turning points in the Slovene history (Sokolska koračnica). One of the first arrangements of Prešeren's Zdravica is also included in this database.

POSTERS
The posters database is revealing how Slovenia always was on the crossroads of European history. They invite visitors to different events, mass meetings, circuses, exhibitions and congresses; they promote lottery, betting and home production; particularly interesting witnesses of time are political posters by well-known authors Maksim Gaspari (for the Carinthian plebiscite in 1920) and Ive Šubic (after WWII). You can also browse the Slovenian posters of world's movies (Metropolis, 1926) and the Slovenian ones (Vesna, 1953). All together, there are almost 4000 posters available.

MANUSCRIPTS
The manuscript collections have always been something special in the history of printing and books. They offered their unique style in writing and calligraphy, historical value and sense of aesthetic. Among all of library items, manuscripts are the only ones that can reveal us the fact of individual life and breathing of every note for itself. This goes as for those created before the invention of printing as for those that came later. You can see that they are an irreplaceable source for researchers and students by viewing 543 handwritten sheet music and lyrics from the archive of the journal Novi akordi. And a special attraction is the digitized format of Supraseljski kodeks, one of the oldest Slavic literary monuments, which is at the same time an important milestone on the crossroads between art and culture that we nowadays seem to forget too often...

MAPS
Many visitors will find this collection one of the most interesting features of the portal. Picturesque, diverse, provocative and full of inspirations. The selection of old maps provides access to the famous Peter Kozler's map Zemljovid slovenske dežele in pokrajin, Valvasor's maps of Carniola, and all the others, including Sebastian Münster, who pictured the Slovenian ethnical territory as it was in the 16th century. In addition, the Maps database also includes old plans of the capital Ljubljana (from 1820 to 1920).

SOUND RECORDINGS
The collection of sound recordings is especially beautifully arranged. It consists of the recordings of solo singers and ensembles dating from the beginning of the 20th century. Due to its rarity and unavailability, we would like to highlight the military band of the Drava Division with the composition Pozdrav Gorenjski, and likewise, many will find interesting Žabja svatba, for which the lyrics were written by Josip Stritar. Besides the ones already mentioned, there is a wide range of folk songs (Zagorski zvonovi, Kadar boš ti vandrat šel…) and many others. All of them are irreplaceable memories of the past.

HIGHER EDUCATION PUBLICATIONS
The creativity in scientific research is certainly a part of the Slovenian cultural heritage, therefore, a new collection Higher education publications has been added to the portal dLib.si. It has been produced within the project »The Development of the Digital Collection of Scientific Research and Professional Publications«. The main goal of the project is to provide a single point of access to full text of the professional, scientific and multimedia content of the four Slovenian universities. The first part includes master's and doctoral theses created at the University of Ljubljana.

VIRTUAL EXHIBITIONS
The internet connections flooded the world, and we are confronted with new possibilities to present library collections. Virtual exhibitions are probably among the most attractive ways to know them better. They have no spatial or time limitations, you can take the tour anywhere and whenever you like. Collections are presented in an interesting, educational and entertaining manner – selections are accompanied by short descriptions with some details, but there is also a main theme that rounds the exhibition as a whole. First in our series of virtual exhibitions is titled V belini še belejša tiha svečka and it will take you on a journey with postcards from Ljubljana from the beginning of 20th century. The very next one invites you to take advantage of summer recreational activities and under the significant title Zakaj bi še gospodinja ne imela počitnic? advises you how to relax and enjoy some quality time.
