Seven people were killed and several others were wounded. In the city, the mayorship closed all the schools and stopped some of the factories. The earthquake caused damage to approximately 10 % of the buildings. These were later mostly taken down and Ljubljana began turning into a lively construction site. After the earthquake, the city went through important urbanistic changes that went hand in hand with the implementation of various other reforms. Ljubljana was given a more Slovenian appearance.</div><div>Along with others, in this collection we present photographs that were taken by a professional photographer Wilhelm Helfer who was chosen for the task by the mayorship of Ljubljana. Photographs, preserved by the Pictorial Collection of the National and University Library, depict the damage caused by the destructive earthquake as well as the lives of people faced with the consequences.</div><div>On the occasion of the 130th anniversary of the earthquake, we added photographs colourized with the DeOldify open-source tool to the Helfer's originals. This tool is part of the AI4Culture platform, which aims to promote the use of artificial intelligence in heritage institutions.</div><div>Rušilni potres je stresel Ljubljano na velikonočno nedeljo, 14. aprila leta 1895. V Ljubljani in okolici je umrlo sedem oseb, nekaj jih je bilo ranjenih. V mestu so zaprli vse šole in ustavili dela v nekaterih tovarnah. Potres je poškodoval okoli 10 % zgradb, ki so jih kasneje večinoma porušili. Po potresu je bila Ljubljana živahno gradbišče in je doživela pravi urbanistični preporod, ki je šel z roko v roki z drugimi reformami. Mesto je dobilo slovenski videz.</div><div>V zbirki poleg ostalih predstavljamo serijo fotografij, ki jih je na osnovi razpisa ljubljanskega magistrata posnel poklicni fotograf Wilhelm Helfer. Fotografije, ki jih hrani Slikovna zbirka Narodne in univerzitetne knjižnice, prikazujejo škodo, ki je ob rušilnem potresu nastala na mestnih stavbah, in življenje ljudi, ki so se spopadali s posledicami potresa.</div><div>Ob 130. obletnici potresa smo digitalno preslikanim Helferjevim izvirnikom dodali še fotografije, obarvane z odprtokodnim orodjem DeOldify.
