My first meeting with Chinese coaches and researchers dates back to 1995. It was then that I attended the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) scientific congress for the first time and under the auspices of the former chairman of the ITTF scientific committee, Dr. Žarko Dolinar also visited some table tennis centers and clubs in Beijing and Tianjin. At the congress I also met the co-author of this article, Prof. Xiaopeng Zhang, and a little later his assistant Dandan Xiao. Both have had a successful coaching career in addition to their academic careers, and today operate under the auspices of the China Table Tennis Association (CTTA). In this article, we want to present you the background and, above all, the origin of the success of Chinese table tennis playersNamizni tenis je ena najpopularnejših športnih panog na svetu, posebej pomembno mesto pa je ta športna panoga našla na Kitajskem. Moje prvo srečanje s kitajskimi trenerji in raziskovalci sega v daljno leto 1995. Takrat sem se prvič udeležil znanstvenega kongresa Mednarodne namiznoteniške zveze (ITTF) in pod okriljem takratnega predsednika znanstvene komisije pri ITTF dr. Žarka Dolinarja obiskal tudi nekaj namiznoteniških centrov in klubov v Pekingu in v Tianjinu. Na kongresu sem spoznal tudi soavtorja tega članka, prof. Xiaopeng Zhanga, nekaj kasneje pa še njegovo asistentko Dandan Xiao. Oba imata poleg akademske kariere za sabo tudi uspešno trenersko kariero in danes delujeta pod okriljem Kitajske namiznoteniške zveze (CTTA).
