In the first part, the author discusses buildings, defensive systems, and different types of motte-and-bailey castles and focuses on its conceptual reconstruction. The results and interpretations of GIS analyses are presented in the second part. Using Lidar images, historical maps, and various GIS tools, the author concludes that Stari grad Črešnjevec had an important role in controlling the Ložnica and Bistrica valleys, through which a medieval commercial road ran. With the example of Stari grad Črešnjevec, he attempts to present one of the approaches to study and better understand motte-and-bailey castles in Slovenia and contribute to their research"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V članku so na primeru mote Stari grad Črešnjevec predstavljeni nastanek in funkcije srednjeveških mot. V prvem delu avtor obravnava strukturne elemente mot in se osredotoči na metodologijo za idejno rekonstrukcijo Starega gradu Črešnjevec. V drugem delu so predstavljeni rezultati in interpretacije prostorskih analiz. Z uporabo lidarskih posnetkov, historičnih kart in GIS orodij avtor pokaže, da je imel Stari grad Črešnjevec pomembno vlogo pri nadzoru doline Ložnice in Bistrice, skozi katero je tekla srednjeveška trgovska pot.
