Today, the information gap between business systems and direct process control is one of the major problems to agile manufacturing. As an answer to these problems, the Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) are rapidly emerging as a nae level of command-and-control between transaction-oriented work planning systems and real-time factory operation systems. With MES systems the manufacturing process becomes information driven and a stronger contrubutor to overall productivity and to the financial viability of the companySodobna procesno organizirana proizvodna podjetja potrebujejo za upravljanje proizvodnje močno informacijsko podporo, ki temelji na integrirani konceptualni, programski in aparaturni računalniški platformi. V arhitekturi take platforme zavzemajo pomembno mesto sistemi MES, ki povezujejo transakcijske sisteme za planiranje ter sisteme realnega časa za vodenje in nadzor fizičnih procesov.
