In order to find out which petrographic components react with alkalis, systematic research was performed, focussed on two aggregate components - quartz and gneiss. Solubility in alkali solutions was determined on samples ofquartz and gneiss, taken from selected gravel pits, according to the ASTM Standard C289-94. Both the grain size distribution prescribed by the standard, and a finer grain size distribution, were taken into account. The results of the tests showed that, without respect to grain size, the quartz from the two treated river basins should be classified as a reactive component, and that its reactivity increases strongly with finer crushing. The measured solubility of gneiss in the alkaline solution according to ASTM C289-94 was found to be low, which taking into account its mineral content, indicates a type of rock with delayed reactivity"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Agregat za beton iz porečij Drave in Mure izkazuje povečano topnost v alkalnem mediju. Da bi točno opredelili, katere so tiste petrografske komponente, ki vstopajo v reakcijo z alkalijami, smo se v okviru sistematičnih raziskav v tej fazi osredotočili na kremen in gnajs. Topnost kremena in gnajsa iz izbranih aktivnih nahajališč smo določili po metodi ASTM C289-94. Vzorci so imeli enako in manjšo zrnavost, kot jo predpisuje standard. Rezultati kažejo, da moramo, ne glede na zrnavost, kremen iz obeh porečij klasificirati kot reaktivno komponento, da pa se njegova reaktivnost z drobljenjem močno zviša.
