The purpose of this preliminary study was to investigate how the ski waist width influences the kinematical parameters of the knee joint in the laboratory simulated skiing conditions. One, physically well prepared, 24 years old subject without any skiing experience participated in the study. The subject was standing on a custom-made testing device that emulated different skiing positions at three different knee flexion angles (25°, 50° and 75°): 1) with the ski placed flat on the support and 2) with the ski placed on the inner edge. The simulated three different ski waist widths were: 6, 8, and 10 cm. At the width of 6 and 10 cm and at the knee angle of 50°, additional measurements were performed with extra 20 kg weight to emulate the radial force in the turn. In all cases standard knee flexion, abduction and rotation angles were calculated. Results showed that the position of the knee joint is affected by the ski width. The lowest external knee rotation was recorded at the ski placed flat on the support while the largest external rotation was measured with the 8 cm ski width. The largest knee abduction was recorded with the 8 cm ski and was marginally higher compared to the abduction with the 10 cm ski. Different knee joint positions such as increased abduction and rotation could potentially be linked to the increased probability of knee injuries. However this should be further validated in a real skiing environment</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Širina alpskih smuči pod smučarskim čevljem lahko hipotetično spremeni kinematiko kolenskega sklepa zaradi spremenjene ročice prijemališča sile reakcije podlage. Zato je bil namen pilotne študije v laboratorijskih simuliranih smučarskih pogojih ugotoviti, kako širina smuči vpliva na kinematiko kolenskega sklepa. V študiji je prostovoljno prisostvoval fizično dobro pripravljen 24-letni merjenec brez predhodnih alpskih smučarskih izkušenj. Merjenec je bil med stanjem na posebno prirejeni testirni napravi, ki simulira položaje alpskega smučanja, merjen v treh različnih kotih upogiba kolenskega sklepa (25o, 50o in 75o): 1) s smučjo postavljeno plosko na tleh in 2) s smučjo postavljeno na notranji rob s simulacijo treh širin smučke pod smučarskim čevljem: 6, 8 in 10 cm. Pri širini 6 in 10 centimetrske smučke pri upogibu 50° smo opravili še meritve z 20 kg bremenom za simulacijo dodatne radialne sile. Izračunali smo upogib kolena, odmik v kolenskem sklepu in zunanje vrtenje kolena. Rezultati so pokazali, da se položaj kolenskega sklepa spreminja pri različno širokih smučeh. Najmanj zunanjega vrtenja kolenskega sklepa se zgodi pri plosko postavljeni smučki, največ pri smučki širine 8 cm, medtem ko je bil največji odmik v kolenskem sklepu prav tako zabeležen pri smučki širine 8 cm, pri kateri je bila velikost odmika v kolenskem sklepu malenkost višja kot odmik pri smučki širine 10 cm.
