The experiment involved 80 elderly participants who were randomly assigned to three experimental groups, which performed endurance exercise, cognitive training, or a combination of both exercises three times a week for twelve weeks, and a control, fourth group. As a form of endurance exercise, we chose treadmill walking to avoid the influence of external factors that could affect task performance. In the context of cognitive training, participants performed memory, concentration, and mental exercises, which we adapted from published manuals. To verify the results, we used the Stroop test to assess selective attention. The study found a positive impact of endurance exercise on attention, where participants improved the inhibition of irrelevant stimuli. The results of the study confirm that proactive action, including appropriate physical exercise, is necessary for quality aging</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V raziskavi smo preverjali, ali lahko z eksperimentalno intervencijo vplivamo na upad pozornosti pri starejših odraslih. Pri eksperimentu je sodelovalo 80 starostnikov, naključno so bili razporejeni v tri eksperimentalne skupine – te so trikrat tedensko 12 tednov izvajale vadbo za vzdržljivost, kognitivno vadbo ali kombinacijo obeh vadb – in četrto, kontrolno skupino. Kot obliko vadbe za razvoj vzdržljivosti smo izbrali hojo po tekalni preprogi, da bi se izognili vplivom zunanjih dejavnikov na izvajanje nalog. V okviru kognitivne vadbe so preizkušanci izvajali vaje za spomin, zbranost in preostale kognitivne sposobnosti, ki smo jih povzeli po izdanih priročnikih. Za preverjanje rezultatov smo uporabili Stroopov test za merjenje selektivne pozornosti. Z raziskavo smo ugotovili pozitiven vpliv vadbe za vzdržljivost na pozornost, saj se je izboljšala inhibicija irelevantnih dražljajev.
