During the war, both writers went through hell in concentration camps where they were held as political prisoners. They verbalised their sufferings in literary writings; Branka Jurca in her collection of novellas titled Pod bičem (1945), Milena Mohorič in her collection of feuilletons titled Motivi z Raba (1946). A few years after the end of World War II, Jurca retreated from direct politics and dedicated herself to educational work, editing and writing. She was one of the most prominent writers of young adult fiction at the time of socialism. Med vojno sta obe kot politični interniranki preživeli pekel koncentracijskih taborišč in to trpljenje tudi literarno ubesedili, Branka Jurca v zbirki novel Pod bičem (1945), Milena Mohorič v zbirki feljtonov Motivi z Raba (1946). Jurca se je nekaj let po drugi svetovni vojni umaknila iz neposredne politike in se posvetila vzgojnemu delu, urednikovanju ter pisateljevanju. V socializmu je veljala za najvidnejšo mladinsko pisateljico.
