Staphylococcal sepsis represents a serious disease carrying high mortality rates. Risk factors, complications and preventive measures are known. At Maribor Teaching Hospital, patients with staphylococcal sepsis are treated at the same department at which the sepsis was diagnosed. Therefore some differences in treatment are observed at our hospital. Methods. Retrospective analysis of data of all patients with staphylococcal sepsis treated at Maribor Teaching Hospital. Results. Comparing our patients and the data published, no significant differences in epidemiology of staphylococcal sepsis were recognized. The factors predisposing to infection remain the same, the patients are mostly from higher age groups. Half of the patients had hospital-acquired staphylococcal sepsis. Primary localized infection was recognized in only 50% of patients. Susceptibility of Staphylococcus aureus to antibiotics is high, the percentage of MRSA is under 10%. Despite the existing recommendations for treatment with antistaphylococcal penicillins, our patients were treated with various antibiotics, decreasing the mortality rate to 23%. Conclusions. In view of the collected results, infectologists should be engaged in the diagnostic and treatment process in septic patients at all departments of Maribor Teaching Hospital. Moreover, a further decrease in morbidity, complications and mortality of staphylococcal sepsis could be achieved by correct antibiotic treatment and preventive infection-control measures</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Izhodišča. Stafilokokna sepsa je huda bolezen z visoko smrtnostjo. Dejavniki tveganja so poznani, prav tako možnosti zdravljenja, zapleti in ukrepi za preprečevanje stafilokokne sepse. V Splošni bolnišnici Maribor (SBM) zdravimo bolnike s stafilokokno sepso na oddelkih, kamor so bili bolniki sprejeti zaradi osnovne bolezni, zaradi česar prihaja do odstopanj v diagnostiki in zdravljenju. Bolniki so zdravljeni z različnimi antibiotiki, čeprav so protistafilokokni penicilini antibiotiki izbora za stafilokokne okužbe. Smrtnost naših bolnikov s stafilokokno sepso je 23%. Zaključki. Ob rednem vključevanju infektologov v diagnostiko in zdravljenje bolnikov s stafilokokno sepso na vseh oddelkih Splošne bolnišnice Maribor, usmerjenem antibiotičnem zdravljenju in upoštevanju vseh ukrepov za preprečevanje bolnišničnih okužb, bi lahko obolevnost zaradi stafilokokne sepse in razvoj septičnih zapletov zmanjšali, posledično bi zmanjšali tudi smrtnost zaradi stafilokokne sepse</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-2MT1H1M5"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-2MT1H1M5" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-2MT1H1M5/2c46d070-e767-4079-9382-281a35b12410/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko zdravniško društvo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-2MT1H1M5/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-2MT1H1M5" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
