The new academic grammar of Czech (Štícha et al. 2013) classifies both the inflectional and lexical morphologies in one large section entitled The Grammar of Word. This raises expectations that it follows the stream of current morphological descriptions, which conceive the word as a unit of morphology and morphology as the theory of the internal structure of word (Lieber-Mugdan, 2000; Bauer 2000, 2004). However, these expectations are not met. The paper analyses the shortcomings of the underlying theory, the incorrect use of illustrative examples as supporting evidence from which the theory is thought to have derived, the questionable interpretations, the inconsistent and often confusing terminology, and the incompatibility of the respective parts of the description. Unfortunately, all of these aspects considerably reduce the value of the new academic grammarEno od ključnih vprašanj današnjih funkcionalno usmerjenih slovničnih opisov jezika je kompetenca in obseg oblikoslovja. Posebno podvprašanje v tej zvezi je ugotovitev meje med pregibanjem in besedotvorjem. Nova akademska slovnica češkega jezika (Štícha et al. 2013) uvršča pregibno in leksikalno oblikoslovje v eno obširno poglavje z naslovom Slovnica besede. To vzbuja pričakovanja, da bodo temu sledili sodobni morfološki opisi, ki dojemajo besedo kot enoto oblikoslovja in oblikoslovje kot disciplino o notranji strukturi besede (Lieber-Mugdan 2000; Bauer 2000, 2004). Pričakovanja pa niso bila izpolnjena. Prispevek analizira pomanjkljivosti osnovne teorije, nepravilno uvajanje ilustrativnih primerov kot temeljnega gradiva, iz katerega naj bi teorija izhajala, in vprašljive interpretacije teh primerov, nedosledno in pogosto nejasno uporabo terminologije in nezdružljivost različnih delov opisa jezika.
