A review is presented about the Building Committee's demands for the architectural competition, Joseph Paxton's proposal, the construction itself, the exhibition and some plans about future use of the building, after the exhibitions closing. Removal of the Palace to Sydenham, as well as some social activities carried out there, are described in detail. The significance of the Crystal Palace is in its' functional architecture, adaptable layout, first use of disassembled construction and glazed façade. The statement about the Crystal Palace stemming from glasshouses and covered railway stations is proven. It is also served as a model for several other buildings, which are mentioned in the article. The culmination in popularity of such buildings was at the end of the nineteenth century when Ebenezer Howard positioned such a building as one of the central buildings in his Garden city scheme. "Crystal palaces" were popular also because they enabled the mixing of social groups, which until then actually never mingled</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V članku je obravnavana Kristalna palača, stavba za prvo svetovno razstavo v Londonu leta 1851. Omenjeni so nekateri njeni nasledniki. Vrh popularnosti je tip kristalne palače doživel konec devetnajstega stoletja z Ebenezerjem Howardom, ki jo je postavil kot eno glavnih stavb v shemo vrtnega mesta. Kristalne palače so bile popularne tudi zaradi mešanja družbenih slojev, ki se do tedaj niso domala nikoli srečali</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-9KSZP5JE"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-9KSZP5JE" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9KSZP5JE/c4d0914d-ee6c-468d-92dd-262c3b3d4e54/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://rightsstatements.org/vocab/InC/1.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Univerza v Ljubljani, Fakulteta za arhitekturo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9KSZP5JE/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-9KSZP5JE" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
