At midnight of 19 December 1999 Portugal yielded Macau, Hong Kong neighbouring territory, to China. This last overseas Portuguese territory can not be compared with Hong Kong neither by the economy power nor by the number of inhabitants or the area. Despite that this is an important change on the world's political map. The article therefore presents the main geographical characterisitcs of Macau which can only be explained by its historical development"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Leta 1997 je bila medijsko zelo odmevna tema britanska vrnitev Hongkonga Ljudski republiki Kitajski, 19. decembra leta 1999 opolnoči pa je Kitajski prepustila oblast nad sosednjim kolonialnim ozemljem Macau tudi Portugalska. To zadnje čezmorsko portugalsko ozemlje se ne more kosati s sosednjim Hongkongom niti po gospodarski moči niti po številu prebivalcev niti po površini. Kljub temu gre za pomembno spremembo na svetovnem političnem zemljevidu.
