It is capable of fast processing large quantities of digitalised data so urbanists predominantly useit in analytical work with spatial data. Many useful user-friendly GIS tools have been developed, which enable gathering, reviewing and manipulating various spatial information. The article deals with the CAUP programme that uses basic spatial information for automatic generating of spatial limitationsand potentials. Zaradi zmožnosti hitrega procesiranja velikih količin digitaliziranih podatkov ga urbanisti uporabljajo v prvi vrsti pri analitičnem delu s prostorskimi podatki. Na tem področju so se najbolj razvila uporabniška orodja GIS, ki omogočajo zajemanje,pregledovanje in obdelavo različnih prostorskih informacij.
