Its water level indicates the lowest point on the Earth's surface. Death Valley in the USA with -86 m represents Earth's second lowest place. It is characteristic for both lowest points that they are formed in interesting tectonic situations. On strike-slip fault in the Death Sea there is left movement and in the Death Valley there is destrial movement present. Tectonic activities are still alive in both examplesZemeljsko površje se v Mrtvem morju v Izraelu spusti do -393,6 m, kar je najnižja površinska točka na Zemlji. Druga najnižja je z -86 m Dolina smrti v ZDA. Za obe najnižji točki so značilne zanimive tektonske razmere. Ob zmičnem prelomu v Mrtvem morju gre za levi zmik, v Dolini smrti pa desni zmik.
