A multiple-informant method was used in obtaining data on personality. Trait ratings were gathered for 108 Slovene children longitudinally (across one-year time intervals) and data for 22 children was collected concurrently aft er the school entry. In general, parent reports on child personality traits signifi cantly predict firstgraders' cognitive characteristics, but the predictive value is relatively weak while child personality trait expression based on teachers' assessments appears moderately predictive. Contemporaneous associations between firstgraders' cognitive attributes and personality ratings are stronger than longitudinal ones; on-entry basic skills and non-verbal ability can be predicted as early as at age three and five, respectively. Across the informant groups and child age, the cognitive characteristics in the first year of schooling are consistently predicted by adult reports on the perceived child trait intelligence. The effect size and the remaining links between personality traits and child cognitive characteristics are similar to those reported in adult samples: the marker traits of extraversion, neuroticism and agreeableness are negatively related to measures of cognitive competence"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V prispevku obravnavava povezanost osebnostnih potez srednje ravni splošnosti s pokazatelji spoznavnih značilnosti otrok ob vstopu v devetletno osnovno šolo: s splošno nebesedno spoznavno sposobnostjo, zgodnjo pismenostjo ter računskimi pojmi in spretnostmi. Podatki o osebnostnih potezah so bili zbrani z metodo več ocenjevalcev, in sicer vzdolžno, v enoletnih časovnih razmakih za 108 slovenskih otrok ter za 22 otrok sočasno, ob njihovem vstopu v šolo. Na splošno imajo otrokove osebnostne poteze, kot o njih poročajo starši, pomembno, vendar razmeroma nizko moč napovedi spoznavnih značilnosti prvošolcev, osebnostne poteze, kot njihovo izraznost pri otrocih zaznavajo vzgojiteljice/učiteljice, pa srednje visoko. Sočasne napovedne zveze med oceno osebnostnih potez in spoznavnimi značilnostmi prvošolcev so močnejše kot vzdolžne, temeljne kompetentnosti otrok ob vstopu v šolo lahko napovemo že na podlagi osebnostnih potez pri starosti treh let, nebesedno sposobnost pa pri petih letih. Ne glede na skupino odraslih, ki poroča o osebnosti otrok, in neodvisno od starosti otrok njihove spoznavne značilnosti v prvem letu šolanja dosledno napoveduje ocena zaznane inteligentnosti kot osebnostne poteze.
