With this technique it is possible to distinguish between fluid and solid formations in the breast and, to a certain degree of probability, differentiate the solid ones. While the distinction between benign and malignant changes is particulay important, the ultrasound examination allows more or less only an approximate avaluation of this distiction. Furthermore, the article deals with diagnostic algorithm, parameters and criteria for categorizing the sonographic changesUltrazvočna preiskava dojke je komplementarna kliničnemu pregledu pri ženskah,ki so mlajše od petintrideset let in imajo znamenja obolenja dojke, pogosto pa je dopolnilna tudi pri nekonkluzivnem mamografskem izvidu. Metoda zmore razlikovati med tekočinskimi in čvrstimi tvorbami v dojki, z določeno verjetnostjo pa tudi diferencirati čvrste tvorbe same. Posebej pomembno je ločevanje benignih sprememb od malignih, čemur pa se lahko z ultrazvočno preiskavo le bolj ali manj približamo.
