To begin with, she discusses the role of the Department of Study Work at the Board for the Advancement of Education, which was the forerunner of the Educational ResearchInstitute. She describes the composition of the research team and the selection of research topics and methods. She then devotes her attention to the part played by (relative) openness, including towards the international research community, in forming the Pedagogical Institute. She also mentions how the original idea was put into effect and established in the first years of the Educational Research Institute and why 1971 was a turning point. Finally, she presents elements and periods in forming the identity of the Pedagogical Institute, which we can still view today as elements of "modern" pedagogical research and to which the vision of future development can also belinked</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Avtorica se v članku naslanja na osebno izkušnjo. V začetku obravnava vlogo Oddelka za proučevalno delo Zavoda za napredek šolstva, ki je predhodnik Pedagoškega inštituta. Opisuje sestavo raziskovalne ekipe kot tudi izbiro raziskovalnih tem in metod. Nadalje se posveti tudi temu, kakšno vlogo je imela (relativna) odprtost, tudi v mednarodno raziskovalno skupnost, pri oblikovanju Pedagoškega inštituta. Nadalje omenja, kako se je prvotna zamisel udejanjala in uveljavljala v prih letih Pedagoškega inštituta ter zakaj pomeniletnica 1971 prelomnico.
