Another aim was to find factors explaining any difference between genders. The survey sample consisted of 1783 children. We collected the data with a standardized SSRS questionnaire and analysed it with nonparametric statistics. The results showed higher academic achievement among girls at a statistically significant level, particularly in reading, overall behaviour and motivation. Development of social skills, absence of behavioural problems and developmental deficits appeared as the strongest predictors of academic achievement in primary school. At the beginning of schooling, more attention needs to be focus on reading skills among boys</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Namen raziskave je bil proučiti razlike v učni uspešnosti med učenkami in učenci v drugem vzgojno-izobraževalnem obdobju na reprezentativnem vzorcu osnovnošolskih otrok ter poiskati dejavnike, ki najbolje pojasnjujejo razlike. Raziskava temelji na vzorcu 1783 otrok. Podatki so bili zbrani s standardiziranim vprašalnikom SSRS in analizirani z neparametričnimi statističnimi testi. Rezultati so pokazali, da statistično značilno višjo učno uspešnost dosegajo deklice, zlasti na področju branja, splošnega védenja in motivacije. Razvitost socialnih spretnosti, odsotnost vedenjskih težav in razvojnih primanjkljajev so se pokazali kot najznačilnejši dejavniki učnega uspeha v osnovni šoli.
