Data was collected from Slovene first graders and their mothers (N=328). The children's teachers (N=87) reported on their school achievement in Slovene, mathematics, and environmental education (EE), and on their parents' cooperation with the school. The mothers provided data regarding their own level of education and the stimulation of their child's cognitive development. The children were assessed individually regarding their non-verbal ability. The two blocks of factors (child characteristics and parental academic involvement) explained, 23%, 9%, 7% and 17% of the variance in children's scores (Slovene, mathematics, EE, and aggregated achievement respectively). The combined child and parental factors showed a significantly higher predictive value than the variance predicted by either of the two factors alone. Non-verbal ability and maternal education were significant single predictors across the academic achievement scores. According to the teachers' ratings of achievement, girls attained higher Slovene scores than boys. The parents' level of cooperation with the school was also predicitve of the first graders' Slovene scores</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V prispevku predstavljamo izbrane značilnosti otrok (spol in splošna nebesedna sposobnost) in vpletenost staršev v njihovo učno dejavnost (sodelovanje staršev s šolo, mamino spodbujanje spoznavnega razvoja otrok in njena izobrazba), in sicer kot napovednike učne uspešnosti prvošolcev. Podatke smo zbrale pri učencih in njihovih mamah (N=328). O učnih dosežkih prvošolcev pri slovenščini, matematiki in spoznavanju okolja (SO) ter o sodelovanju staršev sodelujočih otrok s šolo je poročalo 87 učiteljic. Mame so posredovale podatke o svoji izobrazbi in o spodbujanju otrokovega spoznavnega razvoja, nebesedno spoznavno sposobnost otrok pa smo ugotavljale s pomočjo individualnega preizkusa. Z dvema sklopoma dejavnikov (značilnosti otrok in vpletenost staršev v učno dejavnost) smo pojasnile 23% variabilnosti v dosežkih prvošolcev pri slovenščini, 9% pri matematiki, 7% pri SO in 17% pri dosežkih pri vseh treh predmetih skupaj. Upoštevanje obeh sklopov dejavnikov je imelo pomembno višjo napovedno vrednost v primerjavi z napovedno močjo vsakega izmed posameznih sklopov. Nebesedna spoznavna sposobnost učencev in izobrazba njihovih mam sta bila pomembna posamična napovednika dosežkov prvošolcev pri vsakem izmed treh predmetov.
