He is, however, less known as a poet. Tone Pretnar's decision to translate fourteen of Kamiński's sonnets into Slovene came about primarily due to his personal links with Matija Čop. His translations are probably aesthetically more powerful than the original; they are marked by a subtle and refined use of elements of the language of France Prešeren, whereby the translator succeeds in instilling into his rendering in the Slovenian language a sense of the era and the meta-literary environment in which the sonnets came into being in their original form"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"V bogatem prevodnem opusu Toneta Pretnarja je tudi 14 sonetov Jana Nepomucena Kamińskega, pomembnega lvovskega kulturnika iz 1. polovice 19. stoletja. Leta 1827 napisane sonete je tedanja kritika zavrnila, večje pozornosti pa jim ne namenja niti literarna zgodovina. Pretnar se je za prevod odločil zaradi avtorjevih tesnih zvez z Matijem Čopom. A medtem ko so bile Kamińskemu očitane (poleg kompozicijskih) tudi jezikovne slabosti, so Pretnarjevi prevodi jezikovno čisti in tekoči. Pozornost pritegnejo prešernizmi: citati in aluzije na pesniški jezik Franceta Prešerna. Z njimi je prevajalec pesmi uspešno lociral v čas, v katerega je kljub poznejšim poskusom oživitve zanimanja ostal zaprt izvirnik.
