V prispevku so opisani novejsi pogledi na etioloske dejavnike, ki pripeljejo do razvoja levkemičnega klona. Klasična klasifikacija levkemij na osnovi morfoloskih in citokemičnih lastnosti po FAB je v zadnjih letih nadgrajena s klasifikacijo, ki vključuje imunofenotipske in citogenetske značilnosti maligne celice.
