The article presents the attitude of a random sample of children from Italian-language primary schools in the bilingual area of Slovenska Istra and their parents to certain statements connected to the learning and teaching of Italian as a minority language. Their answers were statistically processed and individual results were also interpreted from the point of view of the answers of children and parents fromother countries included in the research (Austria, Italy, Hungary). Among the most important findings is the fact that bilingual children in Slovenska Istra attending Italian-language schools are keener to learn the language of the minority than other children included in the research, and the majority ofdo them do so without difficulty. Like their peers in Prekmurje and South Tyrol, they use the minority language frequently and in a variety of communication situations, whereas in the case of the other children it is demonstrated that the use of the minority language is less common and for the most part limited to a specific area of linguistic contact. Discussion of the topic of minority languages is among the least popular topics in all groups except among Hungarian/Slovene speaking children from the Györ and Szombathelyareas, where it is top of the list of favourite topics. A marked decline in interest in discussion of this topic is evident among bilingual children in Slovenska Istra, becoming more noticeable as the surveyed children get older</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">V prispevku so prikazani izsledki prve skupne raziskave programa Comenius 2.1 z naslovom "Promocija manjšinskih jezikov v večjezičnih območjih s poudarkom na izobraževanju učiteljev in učiteljic". Prispevek prikazuje odnos priložnostnega vzorca otrok osnovnih šol z italijanskim učim jezikom na dvojezičnem območju Slovenske Istre in njihovih staršev do nekaterih trditev, ki so povezane z učenjem in poučevanjem italijanščine kot manjšinskega jezika.Odgovore smo statistično obdelali in posamezne rezultate interpretiralitudi z vidika odgovorov otrok in staršev drugih, v raziskavo zajetih držav (Avstrija, Italija, Madžarska). Med najpomembnejše ugotovitve prištevamo, da se dvojezični otroci v Slovenski Istri, ki obiskujejo šole z italijanskim učnim jezikom, v primerjavi z drugimi, v raziskavo zajetimi otroki, jezika manjšine najraje učijo, večina brez težav. Skupaj z vrstniki izPrekmurja in Južne Tirolske manjšinski jezik uporabljajo pogosto in v raznovrstnih sporočanjskih situacijah, medtem ko se je pri drugih otrocih pokazalo, da je uporaba manjšinskega jezika manj pogosta in večinoma omejena na določeno področje jezikovnega stika. Obravnava teme manjšinskih jezikov je v vseh skupinah med manj priljubljenimi temami, razen pri madžarsko-slovensko govorečih otrocih z območja Györ in Szombathely, kjer se uvršča v sam vrh najbolj priljubljenih tem.
