On the basis of facies analysis of several cross-sectionsin the considered area the lithostratigraphic and biostratigraphic subdivision of the Lower Jurassic stratigraphic sequence has been carried out. Lying without any discordance upon the Main dolomite (Hauptdolomit) and being slightly discordantly overlain by the Laze formation (Hočevje group), the considered stratigraphic interval consists exclusively of carbonate rocks. The successionof carbonate rocks lying between the Main dolomite and Laze formation has been designated as Podbukovje formation. Sedimentno zaporedje, ki leži konkordantno na Glavnem dolomitu, rahlo diskordantno na njej pa plasti formacije Laze (Hočevska skupina), sestavljajo izključno apnenci in dolomiti. Označeno je z imenom Podbukovška formacija.
