Children's literature does not essentially differ from adult literature: it conveys meaning through aesthetic structures which determine the content of the message (as well as being determined by it). In this respect the reception of literature differs from pragmatic communication. However, in the field of children's literature which is to a certain degree adapted to the specific perception of the audience of children's literature, the reception remains closely linked with extraliterary reality, and wirh its ideological presentation of socio-historical reality. Children's literature avoids triviality by aesthetic means; classical status, on the other hand, is achieved through the application of aesthetic elements which balance the mimetic aspects with the extraliterary ideology by introducing a slight degreee of subversiveness towards the dominant social ideology.
