The sample consisted of 5th , 6th and 7th grade students (N = 599 girls), who completed questionnaires on motivational goal orientations, attitudes towards mathematics and anxiety in mathematics. Final grades and National Examination Test (NET) scores in mathematics were used as indicators of students' academic success. The results showed significant yet small effects of grade and gender. The 5th graders reported higher motivation and more positive attitudes towards mathematics than 6th and 7th graders. Furthermore, 5th graders experienced higher anxiety regarding social evaluation in mathematics than 6th graders. Girls reported higher mastery orientation, more positive attitudes towards mathematics, higher levels of school anxiety, and higher final grade in mathematics than boys. Final grade in mathematics from the previous years, gender, grade, cognitive anxiety, and liking mathematics were all significant predictors of the final grade in mathematics</dc:description><dc:description xml:lang="sl">Namen raziskave je bilo preučiti motivacijske in čustvene dejavnike učne uspešnosti v obdobju zgodnjega mladostništva, ki sovpada s prehodom iz razrednega na predmetni pouk. V vzorec so bili vključeni učenci 5., 6. in 7. razredov (N = 599), ki so izpolnili vprašalnike o motivacijskih ciljnih usmerjenostih, stališčih do matematike in anksioznosti pri matematiki. Kot meri učnega uspeha smo vključili zaključno oceno pri matematiki in dosežek na nacionalnih preverjanjih znanja (NPZ) iz matematike pri šestošolcih. Rezultati so pokazali pomembne, vendar majhne učinke razreda in spola. Petošolci so poročali o višji motivaciji in bolj pozitivnih čustvih do matematike v primerjavi s šestošolci in sedmošolci. Petošolci so poročali tudi o višji anksioznosti povezani s socialnim vrednotenjem kot šestošolci. Učenke so poročale o višji usmerjenosti k obvladovanju, bolj pozitivnih stališčih do matematike, višji šolski anksioznosti in imele višjo zaključno oceno pri matematiki kot učenci.
