Th e volume was published by the University of Primorska on the occasion of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue (2008), and the beginning of the presidency of the Republic of Slovenia to the Council of the European Union. The author analyses the defi nitions of tolerance and intercultural communication found in the above-mentioned volume, and shows that they are pre-theoretic, un-conceptual, stereotyped, generalized, and thus essentially ideological. In what follows, he gives an overview of the articles that constitute the present volume, and critically analyse the historical, sociological, legal, and philosophical background of how the notions of tolerance and intercultural communication were formedUvodnik izhaja iz kritike pojmovanja tolerance in medkulturne komunikacije, kakor ga najdemo v zborniku Medkulturni dialog kot temeljna vrednota EU, ki gaje ob Evropskem letu medkulturnega dialoga (2008) in predsedovanju Republike Slovenije EU izdala Univerza na Primorskem. Avtor analizira opredelitve tolerance in medkulturne komunikacije, ki jih najdemo v tem zborniku, in pokaže, da so predteoretske, nekonceptualne, stereotipne, posplošene in s tem predvsem ideološke.
