Despite its merits, many potential hazards have been described. Among the most dangerous complications is spinal epidural abscess. Described is a case of a 72-year old patient, who was treated for lung cancer. After surgery, the pain was getting progressively worse, and about a year ago he had had an epidural catheter inserted into the upper thoracic spine canal. Suddenly, weakness of lower extremities developed and progressed into paraplegia. Decompressive laminectomy failed to improve the neurological deficit. One month after the procedure, the patient passed away due to pneumonia and progression of lung cancer"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Uporaba epiduralne anestezije in analgezije je postala v zadnjem času pomembna možnost za zdravljenje akutne in kronične bolečine. Kljub prednostim so opisani številni zapleti, povezani z njeno uporabo. Eden izmed najnevarnejših je spinalni epiduralni absces. Opisan je klinični primer bolnika, ki so mu zaradi mišično-kostne bolečine po operaciji pljučnega raka v zgornji del torakalnega spinalnega kanala vstavili epiduralni kateter. Leto dni po posegu se je razvil epiduralni spinalni absces, ki je povzročil paraplegijo spodnjih udov. Po dekompresivni laminektomiji z odstranitvijo abscesa ni prišlo do nevrološkega izboljšanja.
