The use of cord blood to treat haematological malignancies, bone marrow failures and congenital immunodeficiencies is rapidly increasing. This increase led to the establishment of Cord Blood Banks which are collecting andstoring cord blood units. Conclusions. HLA typing results of those units are collected in national bone marrow registries, they can internationally be searched for in Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW) and NETCORD. NETCORD is a foundation with the objective to unite globally the supply and demand of cord blood units and to reassure the adherence to the required minimal standards. In Slovenia there is no Cord Blood Bank yet, but the need is emerging rapidly.BMDW and NETCORD for Slovene patients can be searched for via Slovenija Donor, the national Bone Marrow Donor Registry. V svetu uporaba popkovnične krvi za zdravljenje rakavih bolezni krvi in krvotvornih organov s presaditvijo hitro narašča. Večje potrebe po popkovnični krvi so omogočile razvoj bank popkovnične krvi, ki jo zbirajo in shranjujejo. Zaključki. Podatki o HLA tipizaciji enot popkovnične krvi pa se zbirajo in hranijo v posebnih nacionalnih registrih. Mednarodno so dostopni v svetovnem registru dajalcev kostnega mozga Bone Marrow Donors Worldwide (BMDW)in v fundaciji NETCORD. Slednja poskuša globalno, na svetovni ravni, poenotiti povpraševanje in ponudbo popkovnične krvi ter zagotoviti za to potrebne minimalne staudarde. V Sloveniji banke popkovnične krvi še nimamo, vendar je potreba po njej vse večja. Dostop do popkovnične krvi, ki je na razpolago v svetu, omogoča register nesorodnih darovalcev krvotvornih matičnihcelic (NDKMC) Slovenija Donor (SD).
