In this paper I present a new aspect of metadiscourse that manifests itself especiallyin conversation: I refer to it as conversation management. I define three levels of conversation management: managing topic flow, managing turn-taking and managing utterance production. Based on an analysis of authentic conversations, I try to define the types of discourse elements through which the conversation management is realized. The results show that these elements are very diverse, and many of them (e. g., prosody, speech acts, propositional content ...) have several other function in addition to conversation management"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Koncept metadiskurza se v uporabnem jezikoslovju nanaša na tiste dele besedila, ki ne prinašajo novih vsebinskih informacij, temveč prispevajo k organizaciji besedila ali pa k odnosu med piscem in bralcem. V članku predstavim nov vidik metadiskurza, ki je viden zlasti v pogovorih, in ga imenujem upravljanje pogovora. Definiram tri ravni upravljanja pogovora: upravljanje tem pogovora, upravljanje menjavanja vlog in upravljanje tvorjenjaizjav. Na podlagi praktičnega gradiva skušam definirati vrste diskurznih sredstev, prek katerih govorci v analiziranem gradivu upravljajo pogovor, da bi lahko opazovala načine, kako se ta metadiskurzna funkcija realizira.
