Dot blot hybridisation experiments were performed to validate the PCR assays. Results In 44% of the strains usp gene sequences were detected. The prevalence of hlyAand cnf1 was 25% and 23%, respectively. Only 9% of the strains harbored ibeA. The majority of the tested toxin encoding genes was found in strains belonging to the B2 phylogenetic group. Conclusions The toxin encoding genes hlyA, cnf1 and usp were strongly co-associated. Further, we found a statistically significant co-association of ibeA and usp. The prevalence of the tested toxin encoding genes in E. coli strains from urinary tract infections isolated in Slovenia is comparable to those from studies in other geographic regions</dc:description><edm:type>TEXT</edm:type><dc:type xml:lang="sl">znanstveno časopisje</dc:type><dc:type xml:lang="en">journals</dc:type><dc:type rdf:resource="http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q361785" /></edm:ProvidedCHO><ore:Aggregation rdf:about="http://www.dlib.si/?URN=URN:NBN:SI:doc-Z9NQLP9M"><edm:aggregatedCHO rdf:resource="URN:NBN:SI:doc-Z9NQLP9M" /><edm:isShownBy rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/stream/URN:NBN:SI:doc-Z9NQLP9M/aef25a6b-b8fd-48dc-bd3d-11f460feab0f/PDF" /><edm:rights rdf:resource="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/" /><edm:provider>Slovenian National E-content Aggregator</edm:provider><edm:intermediateProvider xml:lang="en">National and University Library of Slovenia</edm:intermediateProvider><edm:dataProvider xml:lang="sl">Slovensko zdravniško društvo</edm:dataProvider><edm:object rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/streamdb/URN:NBN:SI:doc-Z9NQLP9M/maxi/edm" /><edm:isShownAt rdf:resource="http://www.dlib.si/details/URN:NBN:SI:doc-Z9NQLP9M" /></ore:Aggregation></rdf:RDF>
