He is credited with being the founding father of both Yugoslavian haematology and Slovenian veterinary terminology. While he and his family lived and worked in Zagreb for a long time between the World Wars, after 1945 he devoted himself to science and teaching in Slovenia. Dr. Zavrnik’s hard work and efforts were instrumental in establishing the Slovenian Home as a gathering place for Slovenians in Zagreb. He was a founding member of this association on 2 October 1929. Dr. Zavrnik’s contributions to the field of veterinary medicine were particularly noteworthy. He was an outstanding scientist in this field and one of the founding fathers of both Yugoslavian and Slovenian veterinary medicine. As a keen researcher and scientist, he conducted research on the cellular elements of the blood and haemopoietic organs, whether alone or with his colleagues. He also laid the foundations for the history of veterinary medicine in Slovenia"},{"@xml:lang":"sl","#text":"Fran Zavrnik je bil eden izmed najbolj prizadevnih veterinarskih učiteljev, znanstvenih delavcev in organizatorjev visokih veterinarskih šol. Velja za utemeljitelja jugoslovanske hematologije in za utemeljitelja slovenske veterinarske terminologije. Z družino je med obema svetovnima vojnama dalj časa živel in deloval v Zagrebu, po letu 1945 pa se je znanstveno in pedagoško razdajal v Sloveniji. Dr. Fran Zavrnik je navdahnjen z idejo in vizijo o organiziranju zagrebških Slovencev s svojim trdnim delom in prizadevanjem zaslužen za ustanovitev Slovenskega doma. Bil je ustanovni član tega društva 2. oktobra 1929. Poglavitna pozornost pa velja Zavrnikovemu strokovnemu delu na področju veterine. Bil je izjemen znanstvenik na tem področju in med utemeljitelji jugoslovanskega in slovenskega veterinarstva. Sam ali s sodelavci je kot vneti raziskovalec in znanstvenik raziskoval predvsem celične elemente krvi in hemopoetskih organov.
