Holy Water
Ever since you can remember, whenever you go to church, you put your fingers in the holy-water font at the door and make a sign of the cross. You might find the water font with the holy water inside of a Catholic home. But you might wonder why you don’t find little bowl of water inside the door of a theater or at the other places where people come together. Only catholics use the holy water and as often as they do. Scientists tell us that water is necessary for any kind of life that we know of -plants and trees and animals and human life too. It is not surprising that God who made the water the way it is uses it to give us His life. When we were baptized, we were reborn of water and the Holy Spirit.
The frequent and general use of the Holy water in all the catholic churches throughout the world and among the faithful, and this since the very beginnings of Christianity, is one of the greatest proofs of its importance, its usefulness and temporal benefits.
Purification and preservation is the glorious mission of the Holywater. The two combining elements are salt and water. We could chose none better to signify its two-fold purpose, clearly expressed in the magnificent
prayers of the church. Numerous facts accomplished since the first ages of the church in all countries, attest to the usefulness, the efficacy, the power of the Holy water. Here are some effects of the holy water:	1. remis-
sion of venial sin, 2. remission of temporal punishment due to sin, 3, expulsion of demon, 4. healing of the sick, 5. averting of danger which menace our spiritual life.
Therefore, if holy water is of such great importance in the church and if we desire to be worthy of holy mother the church, we should utilize this powerful weapon she places at our disposition.
Constant battles against the devil, the world and ourselves await us all the days of our life; spiritual and temporal dangers of all kinds threaten us at every moment; the most sensible thing to do is to make use of the Holy water.
“It is a wonderful idea, and we do not hesitate to say so. To recall to the mind of the faithful the sanctity, the virtue, and the advantages of Holy water, which holds such an immenent place among the sacramentals, so that being mindful of it, they must be stimulated to use it more frequently and more fervently.” (Pope Pius IX.)
The President’s Monthly Message
Dear Officers and members;
The Pre-Convention Campaign is still two months in force and my appeal is addressed to all officers and individual members who thus far have not secured a single new member. In your community among your friends you will be surprised to discover many non-members, who are waiting to be enrolled, only to be contacted. The lucky persons who will enroll thirty (30) new members, ten in each classification of-A-B-and Junior-, will receive the title of Convention Delegate and a free round trip ticket to Ely, Minn, the National Convention City.
Those of the smaller branches that cannot get 30 new members, may get 15 members for a one-way paid trip; for 10 new members, $5.00 cash. This is a worth-while incentive to work for and besides, you will have the satisfaction of showing loyalty to your branch and organization. We must campaign for new members with a desire and a will that will win. I hope you will heed this sincere appeal of mine. The closing date of this campaign is, December 31.
The Colorado State Convention was held August 28 in Pueblo. State President sister Anna Pachak was in charge. The day started with a Mass after which the members walked to the hall for a Koffee Klatch and introduction. It was nice to see so many interested members that came for the meeting. A bus full of members came from Denver besides, representation irom four other branches. This was the first state convention in Colorado and I am sure it aroused a lot of interest. Denver is the host city next year and I wager to say, that it will be still larger in attendance because of the experience attained in Pueblo. I will not go any further in the Day’s program, as It was reported in Zarja last month, but I will say this, read Zarja! What other states report of their conventions and get ideas, its always worth reading, what other people do. I would like to thank sister Anna Pachak and her members for the invitation extended to me; I gladly accepted. It was nice, meeting with the Rev. Fathers, members of all branches, Supreme Officers of various organizations and Mr. and Mrs. Butkovich. Colorado, you are superb! Thanks a million!
I would be amiss if I didn’t thank especially Mr. and Mrs. Pachak for the hospitality, shown me and my grandson during our stay at their beautiful home. We enjoyed it immensely and I hope that I may be able to repay you some day when you will visit the East.
The next State Convention was September 11 at Eveleth, Minn, with sister Barbara Rosandich, state president and sister Mary Lenich in charge. Sister, Corlnne Leskovar, the Editor represented the organization and will report the proceedings. The Ohio State Convention was October 2-with sister Antoinette Tanko in charge. Sister Albina Novak attended this affair and will report also in the near future. I have been informed that California observed their State Day, Sunday, September 15. The members went in a group to Church to hear Mass and after which all went to the famous Cliff House for Breakfast. Sister Rose Scoff was in charge of arrangements and reported that a gay time was had by all. Numerous Anniversaries were observed by many branches which is always an incentive affair.
This concludes the conventions and anniversaries for this year. I am sure, that the members who have attended them have learned from them and will be looking for them next year to participate again.
November 1st is All Saints Day, a Holiday of Obligation, which brings to mind, the departed loved ones. Let’s remember them in our prayers.
I am glad to see the announcement in Zarja of the intended trip to our new State, Hawaii, which Is Instituted by sister Prances Cliiodo of San Francisco. All those that do travel every year, should try and ohango their direction and go west and Hawaii. It should be a lot of fun, the more the merrier. I am also glad to see the new article “POTS AND PANS” written by Mrs. Prisland. Lets hear some comments on that; I hope you like it.
In conclusion, I urge every member to attend the December meeting which is so very Important and help with the decision of next years projects.

ACTIVITIES
No. 1, Sheboygan, Wisconsin — Another meeting was well- attended; even the beautiful weather didn’t keep the gals away!
Our supper was a big success, the proceeds, $316.19. Our total fund for the new Sister's convent is now $625.-
53.	Thank you for all the many contributions that were made.
In November, our chairman, Mary Godez and her telephone committee will call all our members to remind them of our December meeting which will be held the third Sunday in December at3:30 P. M. Following it at 5:00 P. M. our Christmas dinner party will be held. We will have a 50 cents handkerchief exchange at our party this year.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ribich on their golden wedding anniversary. We wish them many more.
Congratulations go to Mr. and Mrs. James Perreault. She is the daughter of our former secretary, Ann Zoran.
Our deepest sympathy goes to Mary Godez, our vice president, on the loss of her dear mother. May she rest in peace.
A speedy recovery to all our sick members.
Hoping that all our members will have their “lucky number” books sold and returned at the next meeting so we can pick our winners.

No. 2, Chicago, III. — A large group of over 30 members were present at the October meeting where we heard various reports pertaining to the branch and en.ioyed the monthly birthday party. Discussion was mainly on the November Penny Social to take place on Thursday evening, Nov. 10th, our regular meeting night. The games will take up most of the time, with intermission for refreshments, and there will be no meeting. Our secretary, Mary Muller, will be on hand to take dues, however,. For the Penny Social, we ask all our members to join us and to bring a friend, neighbor or relative. Doors will be open to members and non-members, alike. It may be a good time to interest someone in joining, by bringing her to the social where I’m sure every guest will enjoy herself. Prizes will be needed, so we are asking you who have some item which would make a good prize, to bring it along. The
Senior Becomes President
Miss Mary Ann Muller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Muller, 1846 W. 23rd St., Chicago recently was chosen president of the senior class at St. Ann’s High School, where many of our members’ daughters have been enrolled as it is located near the Slovenian community there.
Mary Ann will serve this year as president of the Student Council and and this makes it a very busy year for her. And, she plans on continuing her studies in the hopes of becoming a teacher.
Mary Ann is a member of br. 2, and has been a participant in many of the branch doings, since her mother, Mrs. Mary Muller, is the local secretary and State President of Illinois-Ind-iana.
We hope she finds these happy school years will bring her closer to the realization of all her hopes and dreams
more the better. We’ll also have Nov. ember birthday celebrations and since our President, Albina Novak, and Secretary, Mrs. Muller are November celebrants, it ought to be a good party!
An event which has been left in the hands of an able committee is this year’s Christmas party. Ladies who will make plans for this event are the officers: President Novak, Secretary Muller, Treasurer, Mary Tomazin, Recorder, Corinne Leskovar, Auditors, Liz Zefran and Jean Kovačič and members: Stef fie Osterman, Frances Gomilar, and Albina Rakovec. Tentatively, the date for the date for the Christmas party is set for the regular meeting night, Dec. 8th.
It was a wonderful sight to have four new candidates for membership received into the S. W. U. on the
night of our October meeting. The new members are Miss Celestine Kavčič, Mrs. Leben, Miss Alma Helder, Miss Margie Prah; Mrs. Anna Spehar was also enrolled. We hope to see their smiling faces at many meetings in the future. Lately, it has been grand to see the initiation at each meeting . Now, our Honorary Delegate, Ann Zorko, has two thirds of her quota and needs only 10 more members. We certainly hope it will be reached soon.
Deepest sympathy to the family of Mrs. Frances Dolenc who passed away Oct. 19.
Our heartiest wishes for a quick return to good health to Josephine Dolinar.
As a result of our auditors’ report, it was decided that beginning in January, the secretary will notify members of delinquent dues only for a limited time. Thus we urge all those who still owe for 1960 to attend one of our last two meetings of this year and take care of this payment.
The President also introduced the subject of our National Convention in Ely, Minn, next year and suggested we work now to interest our members in reserving seats on a chartered bus from Chicago to Ely for this occasion.
At the close of the meeting, the members again received a lovely gift, St. Christopher medals from our gracious president, in honor of Christopher Columbus Day on the day pre-ceeding the meeting.
Our party, too, was along this theme, with the decoration depicting Columbus’ ship, on a large blue board. Tiny flags with lucky numbers were pinned to the board and 25 prizes were awarded. Thanks to little Joey Gomilar, son of sister Frances Gomilar for his art work.

SLOVENIAN WOMEN’S UNION MINNESOTA STATE CONVENTION
Sunday, September 11, 1960, Eveleth, Minnesota
The third Minnesota State Convention of the Sloven-enian Women’s Union of America was held in Eveleth, on Sunday, September 11, 1960 at the Eveleth City Auditorium, being represented by 16 branches.
State President, Barbara Rosand ich, opened the Convention with prayer and presided at the meeting .
The minutes of the 1959 Convention held at Ely were read by Sister Mary R. Lushene, who was the Recording Secretary of the meeting. The minutes were approved as reported.

Mrs. Anna Trdan, Secretary of Chisholm Branch, re ported on their 30th anniversary honoring charter members. Their membership is 186 and during last year there were three deaths, 1 drop-out, and one new member.
Mrs. Frances Anzelc, Secretary of Biwabik, reported that during last year they gained two new members and had one death.
Mrs. Barbara Rosandich, Secretary of Ely Branch, reported 4 new members and lost 6 members.
Duluth won the award for the greatest number attending the Convention, led by Director Ann Podgoršek.
Mrs. Corinne Leskovar, Editor of ZARJA-The Dawn, urged members to send in news reports for publication and as of present there is an even balance of English and Slovenian in the ZARJA as the English section had developed. Thanks were extended for the news contribution.
Mrs Albina Novak, Supreme Secretary, welcomed the delegates, and complimented the Eveleth Branch for the successful convention. She stressed the importance of maintaining a branch regardless of size and to keep the present members. She announced that the Duluth Branch will sponsor a bowling team and that Mrs. Zefran of Chicago, S.W.U. Sports Director, is able and willing to help any branch to organize various sports.
Mrs. Antonija Tanko, State President of Ohio, was introduced and she spoke on the activities of Cleveland, Ohio branches who are very active and hold meetings once a month. Their first Christmas party for juvenile members was a huge success and the slides which were taken will be shown at this year’s Christmas party. She stressed that increase of juvenile membership is the prime factor of perpetuating the organization.
Chisholm was selected as the Host City for next year’s convention which will be held on the second Sunday in September.
Meeting was adjourned followed by the grand Banquet attended by members and guests.

HEARTFELT THANKS!
Eveleth, Minn. — The many members who participated in ourMinnesota Zveza Day in Eveleth on Sept. 11th, deserve our warmest thanks 1'or making the day so successful. Everyone who served on the various committees had a large share of work and resposibility, and the wonderful memory of the day is due to your efforts. There were many guests from all over the Range who came to Eveleth that day, and I can only say it was a pleasure to prepare for them, because their approval of our work is all the satisfaction we could want.
First of all, let us extend our thanks to these, our guests, who arrived by bus and car to overflow our church and hall. To our special honored guests who came from Chicago, Editor, Corrine Leskovar, her husband, children, and mother, our Supreme Secretary, Albina Novak - we can't thank you enough for being with us. The largest group of members, -17 in number, came by chartered bus from Duluth with Ann Podgoršek, our Supreme Auditor in the lead. Barbara Rosandich, State President of Minnesota came from Ely with a large crowd, too. We had an unexpected pleasure in having Antonia Tanko, Ohio State President with us as well. Those of our own people we’d like to thank sincerely include. Rev. John Jershe, our pastor, Mr. and Mrs. William Kuntara, Mary Brank, Mary R. Lushene, Angela Sterle and all who baked the good things which were served at the breakfast and banquet. Many of our members donated items of food, bakery and money -to them, a wish that God will repay your goodness.
To the members who made our guests feel at home, Mary & Pauline Primozicli, Julia Elarsich and Mary R. Lushene, as well as the businessmen for their coperation in making the program book a successful venture, our deepest thanks
We also are grateful to S.W.U. Founder, Marie Prisland, Supreme President, Josephine Livek and Anna Pacliak of Colo, for the congratulatory messages we received on this occasion.
We were certainly most proud to have Congressman, John A. Blatnik, the Mayor of Eveleth, Joseph Jagunich and other civic leaders with us and believe me, their interest in our organization and our work means a great deal to us. And, how can we forget the wonderful, most talented young people who entertained us with singing, musical solos, and duets. Beginning with Mary Margaret Vulc-elicli, daughter of our Sen. Vukelich, who gave us a program of piano selections, and down the line to the Slovenian Choraleers who sang under the direction of Mr. Kuntara every act on the program was most enjoyable. Little Renita Gorican’s words on behalf of the junior members of Zveza were most significant. (Renita’s words are print-on page 231.) The saxophone-piano duet of Georgette Rap-ovich and Marilyn Techer who are cousins and the father -daughter accordlan-piano duet by Frankie Smoltz and Barbara were well received by all. Every word spoken and note sung was for the pleasure of our guests and I know' it all created a wonderful memory. All I can say to you, is thank you and may God bless you for it.
As a parting gift, Mrs. Novak left with us a Slovenian costumed doll, which we will have for our December meeting prize. Thanks for this remembrance of your visit, Albina.
So, once again, thanks and we hope that the good which was accomplished by our gathering in Eveleth will last for many months - till we meet again and renew our spirit in Chisholm for Zveza Day in 1961.

No. 13, San Francisco, Calif.—News from branch #13 our supreme director of Women’s activity, Liz Zefran and her charming daughter Marilyn paid San Francisco a visit. It is refreshing and invigorating to have Liz around her personality to say the least is magnetic. My only regret her time was limited and I was unable to share her with the members of Branch #13, To know Liz is definitely to like her tremendously and you can be sure she is spontaneous in returning your friendship. I wish the miles were less so that visits could be more numerous, Liz thanks so much for the time you spent with me I do so enjoy your company. Come again and stay longer.
Zveza Day for California is now but a sweet memory, Father Vodušek complimented the Ladies of Zveza for setting aside a day to spend together with Mass first followed by breakfast at our world famous Cliff House. Orchid Corsages were presented and paid for by Supreme State President Rose Scoff to Gerry Adami and Fran Chiodo (ME); Gerry as President and friend, and myself as Mother of 19G0 and friend too. We can only thank Rose in print so she will know how much her effort in making this such a success, is appreciated. Gifts were donated so that a few dollars were made to help swell our treasury. Then too Rose donated her salary of $25.00 to Branch #13 instead of using it for the success of Zveza Day and paid for any expense from her ever-so-generous pocket. A day we will long remember was Zveza Day, 19fi0. I am sure the 42 ladies present will verify this fact.
Our trip to Hawaii by Branch #13 is really making head way and by the next issue of ZARJA I hope a few of wrinkles will be ironed out. The trip will, I promise, be most interesting and instead of one person drawing trip plus expense, the money will be used to add side trips and try to keep the cost nominal enough to encourage more of you to come along with me. My agent has been hard at work for over four months planning to make this a trip you will talk about for years to come. From all indications the date will be in July... So, save up those pennies to buy a Muu Muu and join me with a summer trip to HAWAII. More details to follow in next issue. No. 14, Euclid, Ohio — We started our October meeting a little late hoping that more of our members would show up. A few came in late, but we hope more will be present at our future meetings, as we have resumed our popular games, which start after the meeting. We know many of you will be glad to hear this and come join the fun.
All of us who attended the Ohio state convention thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We started the day with Mass at St. Mary’s in Collinwood. A note of praise must be given the wonderful choir which warmed our hearts. Singing like this deserves recognition and congratulations. The breakfast and meeting followed at Slovenian Hall on Waterloo. We ended the evening with dinner and dancing at the same hall. The cook and helpers deserve orchids for the delicious dinner they worked so hard to prepare. Orchids, also, to the waitresses who tirelessly served our tables. The beautiful prizes were won by: M. Mlacli, Lorain, Ohio; Theresa Racher, Niles, Ohio; Lucy Mervar, Garfield Heights, Ohio; C. Trzaska, Warrensville, Ohio; and Mrs. Povzele, Holmes Ave., Cleveland, Ohio.
December will soon be upon us and we must start thinking of Christmas. Our Christmas Party will be December 6th. This will also be an important meeting as we will have election of officers. We would like to see more of you come both for the elections and the party afterward. We will exchange $1.00 gifts, so come and start your holiday celebrating with us.
We recieved greetings from former treasurer, Rose Picely who visited with her sister in Wyoming and then went to Montana to see her father. Sister Picely’s father is in a rest home with both his legs amputated. We know it was hard for you to see your father in such a position and we hope that God will be merciful.
Three of our members have been bed-ridden since our last article; Sister Frances Gorse. Sister Josephine Poje, and Sister Mary Mandich. May our blessed Mother, the help of the Sick, lead you to good health.

No. 19 Eveleth, Min nr—“Zveza Day” has come and gone and judging by the comments and congratulations we received, I have a feeling that all the effort we put into it was worth while. I am very sorry that I was too occupied to exchange much more than greetings with my many friends, but I am sure they will understand, and I do hope that I may get to see them at a more leisurely time.
Now for the many credits due to all who helped make our day a success. Our deepest appreciation to Rev. Fr. John Jershe and St. Cecelia Choir for starting off our days activities with such a beautiful Mass; to Mr. and Mrs. Kuntara for decorating the church; to the members of the Coffee Committee who did such a fine job of seeing that all who desired to had that second cup of coffee; to the officers who conducted business in such a manner that our banquet was not held up; to the Holy Family Church Guild who served such a delicious meal; to all those who participated on the program, and most particularly to all who attended thus making our cup of joy overflow.
It is a well known fact to any who have ever had occasion to participate in the preparation of an affair of this type, it takes the assistance of many to facilitate matters in setting up a gathering of this size. In recognition of this may we extend our gratitude to the merchants who saw fit to advertise in our program booklet, to those who extended greetings, to those who contributed favors and merchandise, to those who donated flowers, to the officers and committee-women who gave so generously of their time and capabilities, and to anyone who in anyway whatsoever gave a helping hand in making our day a successful one.
May I also take this opportunity to apologize to anyone who may in any way have been inconvenienced.
As all must know who have ever had a hand in conducting a program of this type, seldom do things go exactly as planned, and so through no fault of “yours truly” our program was a bit lengthy. I thank you very kindly for your patience and I am sure we all ended the day on a happy note.
The visit of our special guests, Zarja Editor, Corinne Leskovar and Supreme Secretary, Albina Novak made all our members happy.

. . No. 20, Joliet, Illinois—After a three month vacation we met again at our meeting hall. Here we recalled many happy events of the past months since we did not see each other during this time. It was nice seeing you members and I hope you will come every meeting. Sincere invitation is extended also to our bowlers, to come to our meetings, as we would like to meet so many nice members, who never have time to attend the meeting. It is well worth coming, so do not fail and su-prise the officers of the branch with your presence.
At this first meeting this season we also remembered our deceased member of Zveza and true friend Mrs. Lillian Kozek, member of br.2, Chicago 111. who at her days of health was an ardent bowler, a good member of her branch and also a sincere friend of the Joliet branch. We worked together with her many a time on Zveza days. She was always such a willing person to cooperate. She could have lived a long time and enjoyed life if fate did not cancel all her intentions for the future. She deserved heavenly reward for all her sufferings in this world. A mass has been offered by our branch in her memory which will be asked to be read in Slovenia. Taken care by your reporter. May she rest in peace, and her memory shall never be forgotten among us. To her family and friends we extend our sincere condolences.
Our condolences to the bereaved families of our members: The Benedict family mourns the loss of their son and husband, Mr. Theodore Benedict who operated his own gas station on cor. of Broadway and Theodore Sts. for many years. He was ill a number of years but never complained. He died in the Silver Cross Hospital after one week’s confinement there. At the time of his death he was 41 years of age. He was a good father to his family and a good business man. He is survived by his wife, Mnrcella, two children Robert and Janet, his parents Luke and Jennie Benedik, five sisters (Florence) Mrs. Ulgo Valle, (Genevieve) Mrs. Anthony Golobitch, (Louise) Mrs. C. Rev. Rudolph Urbic, pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Cooks Valley, Wis. celebrated the Silver Jubilee of his priestly ordination on Sept. 25, 19G0 at 11:00 A.M. with a solemn High Mass. The celebrant was the Jubilarian, the deacon was Rev. Emil Hodnik, pastor of St. Mary’s Church in Custer, Wis., and sub-deacon was Rev. Joseph Gole, professor of Major Seminary, Sacred Heart Monastery (Hales Corners) Franklin, Wis. The Sermon was delivered by the Rev. Eugene Comiskey, pastor of Holy Ghost, Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Father Urbic was born in Sevnica on Sava, Slovenia, Jugoslavija. He was ordained in Šibenik, Dalmacija on Sept. 22, 1935. First mass was in Sevnica on Sava, Slovenia.
The Altar Society of St. John’s Parish prepared and served a delicious dinner for one hundred and twenty-five priests and guests who came from Milwaukee, West Milw., New Lisbon, Willard, Bloomer, Tilden and Colfax, Chippewa Falls, Wise.
A reception was held for the parish

He was a member of various organizations. Theodore Benedik was born here in Joliet and attended St. Joseph’s Parish School. He was well
with luncheon served by the Altar society. They also furnished the flowers for the altars and the Notre Dame Sisters of the parish arranged the chrysanthemums of yellow and white, with silver leaves, grapes, and wheat branches which were most effective. The church hall was trimmed attractivedly by the 4 H Club of the parish. Beautifully decorated anniversary cakes were donated and baked by Mrs. Mary Petrich who is also our charter member of ZVEZA No. 17 and two parish ladies.
Father Urbic’s sister (who is also a charter member of No. 17) of Milwaukee was present and also the following relatives from Milw.-West A1 lis:	Misses Josephine (trustee of no.
17), Emilie (member of branch no. 17 andCarolyn Imperl. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Imperl, Jr., Mr Ernest Imperl, Louis Wamberger (husband of deceased Louise Wamberger, who was an active member of no. 17 and sister of the Jubilarian), Jean Marie and Diane Imperl (Both Junior members ofno. 17) and James Michael Imperl.
The Slovenian choar members and members of St. Mary of Chrisians Church, West Allis and members of St. Augustine, West Allis, & St. Flor-ian’s, Milwaukee St. Mathias, West Allis and St. Gregory, Milw., were represented at the dinner.
Children of his nephew, Frank Imperl, Jr. also children of Mr. & Mrs. Anthony Marolt and Mr & Mrs. J. Panhans Jr. presented Father Urbic with 25 red carnations, statue of the Blessed Virgin of Fatima and James Michael Imperl presented him with a silver rosary placed on a silver laced pillow which was given him by the family.

known here. His is a great loss not only to his family but also to his parents, sisters and brothers who will always miss him.
We also mourn the loss of our member, Mrs. Louise Nasenbenny, who after several weeks in the hospital died suddenly at the age of 67 years, ^lie had her home at 816 Summit St.
Besides being a member of Slov. Women’s Union, she also was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, St. Genevieve Society 108 KSKJ, the St. Cecelia’s society No. 12 DSD, a member of the sewing circle club of the Guardian Angel’s home, and a member of the Royal Neighbors of America and a president of the parish Seniors Club. Her husband died in 1955. She also was preceeded in death by a son. Two years ago she visited her native land, Slovenia, after more than 40 years. She intended to make another visit soon, and return to visit piaces she missed.
Louise was one of those persons who could not refuse a deed for her neighbor, friend or society. She will always be remembered by the members of our branch, as we will always think of her when entering our meeting hall, and see the drapes she made and hung at the windows, in order that movies could be seen at various times. She made a lot of needle work for the Altar and Rosary Society and the Senior Parishioners Club. She never complained about her ailment and seemed to be in good health at the Silver Mass of our parishioner, the Rev. Pius Petrie,in Le-mont. She joined the branch on Nov. 18, 1928, and was a member almost from the beginning. She was recomended by her sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Kuglich.
She was born in Trebnje, Dolenjsko in Slovenia.
She is survived by two daughters, (Louise) Mrs. Edw. Stonicli, (Marie) Mrs. Lawrence Ruth, seven sons, Rudolph, Leonard, Robert, James, Donald and Gerald, all of Joliet, and son Thomas in Germany serving the U. S. Army; also by a sister Mrs. Frances Muren and Brother Dominic. She was preceeded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mary Zupancich, who was the charter member of our branch.
She is also survived by a number of other relatives. May both deceased friends Theodore Benedik and Louise Nasenbenny rest in peace and our sympathies to the bereaved families.
Our President of the auditing committee, Mrs. Josephine Muster is on the sick list. She fractured her ankle and also hurt the other leg. She in now confined at home. Sick members are also Mrs. Edith Trilock (Ogrin) from Waukegan, and Mrs. Mayme Fedo and Theresa Gerenchir. Our past officer; Mrs. Theresa Zlogar, was also confined to her home for a few months. We’re glad to see her well again.
Our condolences to Mrs. Anne Pa-pesh who lost brother Bill Vesel. Also to Mrs. Barbara Gosach, who lost her father, Mr. Andrew Petraška.
At present confined in the hospital is Mrs. Catherine Smolich from Wil-
cox St. who broke her leg, and Mrs. Louise Baucher.
Our belated congratulations to our long-standing member Mrs. Mary Ambrozich, secretary of the Altar and Rosary society for her title “Woman of the Year”. She has fully deserved this honor, for her continuous and strenuous work for the society and parish.
Since our meetings began again this fall, I hope to sse you all and renew our friendship with many whom we have not seen all summer.
At some of our homes in the past years, are gardens with a statue in the center dedicated to various saints. We were present recently at such a dedication at the home of our member, Mrs. Jean Tezak, who has a statue of the blessed virgin in the rear of her home, decorated with various stones brought from every state of the Union. Our Monsignor was also present at this dedication. I think it is a nice custom to have such devotion in our gardens. We also have a large statue of St. Joseph the Workman next to our church between the parish house on N. Chicago St., lighted every evening. It is a beautiful picture for those who drive by or walk to town.
Get well wishes for health have been sent to Mrs. Mary Popek who was confined to St. Joseph’s Hospital.
A Silver Wedding anniversary with a high mass offered at the seven o’clock mass for Mr. Jacob and Rose Šemrove has been celebrated. Our branch extends its heartiest congratulations to the happy couple and may they live to observe many more such happy days.
Our church card party will be held in November in St. Josephs Parish hall as usual every year, under the direction of our ladies societies. Since our branch always has a part in this party and we nil strive for the success of this undertaking, we ask our members to donate prizes especially pillow cases. Please bring them to our secretary, Frances Gaspich, to the meeting, or her home. If you wish, you can bring them to the hall. Just write your name on the outside of the prize and the name of the society. Also bring your tickets and returns at the same time.
In November we also celebrate All Souls day and All Saints day. At this time we also remember all the members and friends who have departed this year from us. Many were among us last year who have visited the graves with us, and attended holy mass at the Grotto; this year they are among those who have been called into eternity. May they rest in peace!

If the first weeks’ scores are an indication of things to come, then remove the ceiling - scores are soaring!
Several 500 series have been registered in the first four weeks of bowling, two by Lorraine Itothlisberger, 526 league’s high and 512; two by Marje Wajchert, 513 2nd high and 510; Jo M laker, 511 for 3rd high and Helen Golobic in 4th with 509.
The 200 barrier was pierced only by Gen Klainselt. Her 200 is the league’s high. Others that can claim “I was robbed!”—are Marje Wajchert 199 lor 2nd place; Sophie Stiglich 3rd high with 192 and Lorraine It. in 4th with 191.
Either with an eye on the classic league or getting a beam on the ‘ Most Improved Bowler Award” are: Agnes Koerber, (the league’s new and most efficient secretary), averaging 20 points above her last year’s average, (could be the secretary’s work is agreeable?); Helen Golobic is a close second for the award with 13 points over her average. Others hitting 7 to 15 points over their average are; Rita Mitchel 14; Gen Klainsek II; Fran McCarthy, Bea Zobel and Marie Wajchert 10; Gen Gasmovich 9; Lorraine Rotlilisberger and Ann Cox 8; Ann I’icco and Dot Nemanich 7.
Missed by all the bowlers is Lill rierge. Her doctors advise her to take a rest from bowling for a few months. Lill was one of the league’s most reliable bowlers. She has many friends in the league who join me in expressing the wish that this absence will be short and we all hope to see Lill’s name on the roster this year.
RoseMary Horvath, wife of Ed Horvath the Baker, one of our sponsors, will be available as a sub, Bowl-eis are urged to give her a call when a sub is needed it Is a nice way of keeping in touch. This is probably wishful thinking on our part buL we hope we may be able to entice her back into the fold.
Jean Nickleski is a loss not only to the bowling league, but to the Cadet Alumnae Association, of which most members are bowlers too. Some of the league members traveled to Barrington, Illinois, to visit with Jean and her family this summer. Your reporter, with deep regrets, was unable to join the party. Complimentary remarks about the Nickleskis’ hospitality and home are constantly popping tip in conversations. It. couldn’t happen to a nicer family! Our loss is Barrington’s gain!
Millie Ellena plans to be back in the line-up as soon as circumstances permit. In the meantime, her daughter Dolly, a most refreshing individual has signed up witli our league. When it comes to crowning a personality queen, it is a toss up between mother Millie and daughter Dolly, The phrase —"as mother—so daughter”, applies in this case.
The fact tliat the mother—daughter combination of Dian and Mitzie Mro-zek would not be with us this year, was a disappointment to the league members. I)ian is carving a name for herself in the classics, while Mitzie’s excuse is her semi-weekly trips to a chiropodist Mitzie will be available as a sub as soon as her doc releases her.
Your prayers are requested for the welfare of Tillie Sorg’s youngest, child who will undergo surgery at. the Children’s Memorial Hospital this month. After her child is on the road to complete recovery, Tillie will be more than glad to fill in as a sub or still better, to come in as a regular.
It takes quite a while to get settled in a different home. Once things get back to normal and all the problems of getting adjusted to a new community a; a solved, then look forward to see Shirley Goron’s name appearing on the upper division of the league roster. Bowling is Shirley’s first love in sports—and not being able to participate with her friends is agony. She was forced into this leave of absence—but "she shall return”! .................And	so will I.

The year is finally coming to a close and I have many members who have
not paid their dues this year. Some members resent my reminders of their dues and have even gone so far as to quit without bothering to pay back what has been paid in for them. So, please try to come to our next meeting and take care of the dues so that we can close the books on 1960. Thank you.

No. 23 Ely, Minn., Dawn Club—The
Dawn Club, a social branch of No. 23 here in Ely, observed our 25th anniversary with a dinner on Sept. 21st at the Jugoslav National home. The past presidents were honored at the dinner and each was presented a handkerchief corsage. They include Miss Mary Shikonya, Mmes., William Rowe, John Pecha, Frank Zgonc, Mrs. Amelia Mainer, Mmes., Joseph Markovich, Frank Vranesicli, Frank Pucel and John Miklaucich. The tables were decorated with vases of garden flowers, the birthday cake was the center piece. Forty-five members were in attendance for this special occasion.
A short business meeting was held after the dinner. Mrs. John Miklaucich, president, opened the meeting with prayer and followed this with discussion on what we can do to raise money for our treasury. No decisions were reached, but a lot of ideas were brought up. Then, the meeting adjourned. Mrs. Chas. Merhar played her accordion for the entertainment of all with old-time polkas and waltzes. It makes one think of the old days— it really perked us all up!
The charter members of the Dawn club are Mrs. Lyle Brennan, Mrs. William Rowe, Miss Mary Stubler, Mrs. John Vidmar, Miss Mary Shikonya, Mrs. Joseph Skufca, Mrs. John Ros-andich, Mrs. Joseph Jamnick, Mrs. Vranesicli.

No. 23, Ely, Minn. — On Sept 14th the Dawn club celebrated their 25th anniversary with a dinner and dancing at the National Home. The following is a short history of the Dawn Club.
The Dawn. Club was organized on May 15th, 1935 as a social branch of the S.W.U. No. 23 The group is also dedicated to the promotion of civic and cultural Improvements in the city.
Its first officers were Mrs. F. Marinšek, president, Mary Shikonya, recording secretary and Mrs. Mary Champa, treasurer. The constitution and by-laws were drawn up by Mary Miklovich and Barbara Brennan. Mrs. Stephanie Vranesicli and Mrs. Emily Mainer became members in Jan. 1940.

We are sorry to report that we lost two members in October, namely Sophie Pryatel and Margaret Grahek. We offer our sincere sympathy to the families.
Congratulations to the family of Mr. and Frank Vidmar, (Janet) on new arrival — a baby girl — another member!
On the sick list we have Jennie Zgonc, Christine Kuzma and Amelia Veranth—they are in the hospital.
We wish them a speedy recovery!
On behalf of the members of the Minnesota Slovenian Women’s Union and the Ely branch, we sincerely wish to thank the hostess branch, No. 19 of Eveleth, for the wonderful banquet and program they prepared for the Minn. State Day on Sept. 11th. A special thanks to Corinne Leskovar and Albina Novak for being with us that day.
I was indeed happy to see such a large attendance from the different branches. We hope to see you all in Chisholm next year and in Ely in May for the National Convention.
We in Ely, are working on the preconvention membership drive and are getting a few members right along. We would like to see the other branches doing likewise, so that Minnesota can be tops. Let’s all try to do our best.

THANK YOU, MINNESOTA!
Ten years is not a long time between friendships—and when I renewed many of them in Minnesota this year, it was as if our meeting in 1950 were just a few months back. Of course, this time, I had a family to bring along - and it was one of my greatest pleasures to be able to show them what Minnesotans are like. In all respects, the memory of the meeting is just as sweet to all of us now, as it was to me before.
If the day was chilly and rainy, not many of us fretted -the church service warmed us and inspired us to begin the day well. Compliments to the Pastor, Fr. Jershe, for his welcome and the Choir, under Mr. Kuntara’s able direction, which gave us an hour of Slovenian hymns.
At the Hall, our Convention assembly was called to order by State President, Barbara Rosandich and again we marveled at the large crowd of members who gathered to participate in the proceedings. Pictures on the accompanying pages were taken before the meeting, and I’m sure our photographer never worked with so many groups of lovely smiling ladies! The roll call of branches showed that we had nearly 300 members at the meeting. Branch 33 of Duluth had 47 members present and Ely brought 44 members along. Hibbing had a nice showing with 34 members of br 56 and 21 from br. 52 Every town on the Range had a representation and that was most significant.
At 1 o’clock, we found ourselves seated at tables beautifully decorated and heavily laden. The dinner was scrumptious and the after-dinner speeches were most interesting. The program which was interspersed with introductions and the informal remarks of the guests, was most delightful. I can only say that the right spirit prevailed that day in such abundance that it left the sweetest memory of friendships old and new and of “a step ahead” taken toward greater progress for our S.W.U. in Minnesota.
If I may, I wish to add THANK YOU in capital letters to our hostess, Mrs. Mary Lenich, and her incomparable husband, Anton, who made the visit to Eveleth like a
family reunion. Mrs. Lenich worked hard and long for the accomplishment of that day and she is certainly is a leader we can be proud of, in Eveleth and in Minnesota.
Once again, on behalf of my family and myself, sincere thanks for the splendid Minnesota Zveza Day of i960! See you all again in Ely next May. I, for one, will be anxiously awaiting another visit with you.

Renita Gorican’s Inspiring Message at Minn. Zveza Day
Madam chairman, Reverend Father, Supreme officers, honored guests, and sisters of the Slovenian Women’s Union of America - Greetings from the juvenile members of our organization. I am happy to have been selected as the one to bring this message to you.
We are happy and proud to be members of this fine Union which teaches us to honor our faith, do our duty to our community and our country, respect our heritage, and be true to our fellowman.
We feel like a bird must feel while it is still in its nest. While it is daily being taught to feel its duties and responsibilities, it is also being groomed to assume them, and at the same time it is being given the protection and coverage of its elders.
We most sincerely thank our mothers for their daily care and guidance, for teaching us to pray, to respect and be charitable to those around us, and to study well so-that we may make our contribution to a better world, and for teaching us the laws of God and man so that we may be worthy citizens of these United States of America and thereby also better citizens of the world.
So we see that our Union’s teaching are very much like those of our mothers. We hope that we learn our lessons well so that some day we can assume the duties which you are performing in such a worthy manner, today.
We wish God’s blessing and bounty on all of you and ask Him to please make us worthy of your faith in us.
No. 24, LaSalle, III'. — For the first meeting of the season, I must report a very satisfactory attendance. Now, we invite you all to the December meeting when we’ll have our Chris-mas party and gift exchange (500 value). Also, election of officers will take place at this meeting and refreshments will be served. It’ll be a wonderful time for you who seldom come to attend and meet your friends. We also remind any member in arrears with dues, to take care of this before the year is up.
The membership campaign closes in December, also, and I urge all of you who have prospects, to sign them up now. Let’s close the year with a fine showing.

No. 26, Pittsburgh, Pa. — For the
September meeting, the attendance was poor. It could have been much better if the weather was nice. This
was the first meeting of the season. Mrs Josephine Oblak won the door prize at this meeting. Those of you who are in arrears with dues payments are urged to pay up as soon as possible. It is discouraging to have members who don’t keep good order in this matter. Next month will be another time when we ask all members to come to the meeting as it will be fin important meeting with election of officers. You can vote for whomever you wish and have them on committee. Sometime a change is for the better.

No. 28, Calumet, Mich — Greetings from the Copper country! We are all happy to report that our meetings are well attended. Election of officers will soon take place. Here is a message to all members when selecting their officers: Be large in thought, in word and in deed; be never hasty in judgment and always be generous. Be

Our annual Christmas party will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 14th, Supper will be served at 6:00. There will be an exchange of gifts and members are asked to bring a 50 cents gift for exchange.

No. 33, Duluth, Minn. — A large attendance was present at our October meeting, and many subjects were discussed. First, we want to congratulate Branch no. 19, Eveleth, Minn., for the wonderful preparations which made Minnesota Zveza Day so grand. Most of the Minnesota branches were present on Sept.llth, to partake of
the day’s program, with hostesses of no. 19. The Mass in the morning, the choir singing and sermon by Fr. Jer-she was wonderful. The meeting of many friends from all over the Range, seeing the Supreme Officers, Albina Novak and Corinne Leskovar, who represented the Home Office, was the highlight of the day. We also were happy to see the Ohio-Michigan State President, Mrs. Antonia Tanko with us, only it was such a sad occasion being just a week or so after the death of her husband. We extend our deepest sympathy to her.
The convention meeting followed with a large attendance. Our branch was awarded the attendance prize with 47 members pršesent. Reports of the various branches were very interesting and Chisholm was selected for next year’s Zveza Day. So, we’ll see you in Chisholm in Sept., 1961!
The banquet and program were really wonderful - Eveleth can surely be proud of having such excellent performers. The toastmistress, Mrs. Mary Brank, was most capable - and the officers who served on committees did a marvelous job. Last but not least, Mrs. Mary Lenich deserves the warmest thanks for her thorough job. Thank you all - we are all proud and happy to be a part of the Minnesota group.
Following the discussion and report on Minn. State Day, bowling was discussed. We tabled further discussion until our president, Liz Smolnikar, gets more information.
We decided on a candy fund-raising project for the holidays. Proceeds will go for our treasury. The candy will be distributed at our November meeting. Each member will be asked to help!
Our Nov. 9th meeting will be one long to remember! A special dinner will be served to all members at 6 p.m. Each member attending will be asked to contribute 75 cents toward the expense of the dinner and the committee has been selected to take charge. The regular meeting will follow and new members will be enrolled. Then, we’ll have fun with cards and games and prizes will be awarded.
Our Oct. meeting was followed by card games and a very delicious lunch served by Mary Spehar, Helen Ellena and Winifred Ellena. Prizes were also awarded to the winners.
On Oct. 1st, Mr. and Mrs. M. F. Spehar (Mary) were surprised by the members of the immediate family on the occasion of their 25th Wedding Anniversary. Guests numbered about 30 and a mock wedding was enjoyed -enacted by the younger members of the family. It was just out of this world! Had they been professionals, they couldn’t have done better. We were all in stitches during this comical ceremony. A gift was presented to them and a smorgasbord supper was served. The celebrants are my

Barbara A. Kovacic, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Kovacic of 7308 Hecker Ave., Cleveland, O., was graduated from St. Alexis School of Nursing on Sunday, August 28, 1960, at the Our Lady of Lourdes Church, the Most Rev. John Kroll, auxiliary bishop of Cleveland presided.
Last February Barbara was selected “Student Nurse” of St. Alexis and was runner-up in a contest sponsored by the Student Nurse Association for Greater Cleveland and Elyria.
Barbara will be associated with St Alexis Hospital. — Congratulations and good luck in your career!

On Sept. 30th, Mrs. Mary Ivanovich, a member of our branch for 30 years, passed away. May her soul rest in peace. Despite her handicap, she was always in good humor and full of fun. Two of her daughters are also members. Deepest sympathy to the family.

No. 34, Soudan, Minn.—Twenty four members answered roll call at the first meeting of the Fall season on Thursday evening, Sept. 22, with Mrs. Edward Dragavon presiding. During the business session the members decided to again sell candy as their best money making project and it will be on sale shortly. Anyone wishing to purchase the vacuum packed candy can do so by contacting any member of Branch 34, or at the home of Mrs. Mary Pahula.
Following the business session Mrs. Anthony Yapel gave a report on the activities of Minnesota Day in Eveleth which she attended in company with Mrs. Mary Pahula, Mrs. Angela Stepan and Mrs. Anton Zollar. May I add now, that we salute the Eveleth Branch for being such grand hosts— the Mass in the morning with the beautiful voices of the choir members was a wonderful experience for all the Union members, I’m sure. And the banquet with its accompanying program and speakers was surely enjoyed by everyone. Thanks from Branch 34 members for the hospitality and good time.
Following the business session, a social hour was enjoyed and prize winners were Mrs. John Tekautz and Mrs. Herman Mesojedec at “Cootie” and Mrs. John Pahula and Mrs. William Lilya at "500”. The evening was concluded with lunch served by the hostesses, Mmes. Ernest Mustonen, Ramon Berg and Donald Hill. Hostesses for the October meeting will be Mmes. No. 43, Milwaukee, Wise. — Our meeting of October 8th was very active and well-attended. There will not be a meeting in November, so we remind you of the next meeting, Sunday, Dec. 11th. We are also having election of officers at that time.

OHIO’S ZVEZA DAY RICH IN FRATERNALISM
Zveza Day for the states of Ohio anti Michigan was held on Sunday, Oct. 2nd. The day turned out to be nice although we had a rather gloomy start. Mass for the living and deceased members was offered at St. Mary’s Church on Holmes Ave., with Father Varga officiating The choir sang beautifully. After Mass, we met at the Slovenian Workingmen’s Home on Waterloo Rd., where we had breakfast consisting of apple and cheese strudel, potica, krofe, and coffee made by our members and enjoyed by all.
At 1 P. M. the State Convention meeting was called to order with Invocation by our State Vice-President, Pauline Stampfel, (No. 25). Minutes of last year’s convention was read by Secretary, Ella Starin, and she was unanimously re-elected recording secretary 1'or this meeting. Thanks, Ella, for your wonderful work!
Branches represented by delegates at the Convention were as follows: No. 10, (Collinwood), 14, (Euclid), 15, (Newberg), 18, (Collinwood), 21, (West Park), 25, (Cleveland), 32, (Euclid), 40, (Lorain), 42, (Maple Heights), 47, (Garfield Hghts.), 49, (Noble), 50, 53, (Cleveland),
54,	(Warren), 57, (Niles), 68, (Piarport Harbor), 73, (Warrensvile Hgts.) Branch 40 of Lorain, Ohio had the largest group with 14 members present.
State President of Pennsylvania, Mary Tomsic and family were our special guests, as they came all the way from Strabane, Pa. They in turn invited the assembly to join them at their State Convention in Pittsburgh next year. All the members agreed that we charter a bus for the event and as many as possible will make the trip.
The discussion was very interesting and educational and many new ideas were brought up for the good of all the branches, new ways to make the meetings more interesting in order to draw larger attendance -— how to raise money and most important, how to get new members. Quite a few of our delegates reported that they are doing well with new member enrollments and they are working for the free trips to Ely, Minn., delegates will receive by enrolling the quota of 30 new members. The Convention in Minnesota in 1961 seemed to be a very interesting goal and a lot of enthusiasm for it was seen at our meeting.
A unique idea for branch activity came from br. 68, Fairport Harbor, O., by sister Jennie Morhoric who told they make a sausage sale of home made products every year. They sell enough in one hour to realize a nice profit and they even have some money left for a treat.
Branches that are not so active were encouraged by the good points brought up and I am sure they will bring

their message to the home circles very effectively. Soon, we hope to hear of new activity from them.
Meeting was adjourned at 4 P. M. and our photographer was right on hand to take some pictures which you will see in this issue of ZARJA. Anyone wishing information may call me — to order a picture, if you like lor one dollar.
The Banquet started at 5 P. M. Sister Molly Legat of No. 14 served as our hostess. She was kept very busy and did a mervelous job of this difficult task.
Dinner was delicious and served very capably by waitresses wiio were on their toes every moment. Especially delightful to see were the little waitresses with their heart aprons from the St. Clair Drill Team. The program of the evening consisted of talent from our own membership.
1. “Zvezina Himna” was sung in Slovenian by Mines. Carol Traven and Tillie Ramus of No. 50, accompanied by sister Mary Gerl of No 14 who is the organist and director of St. Christine’s Church Choir.

She was chosen Queen on the basis of her highest ticket sales and she looked ever so charming in her blue dress and the regal robes which were presented to her that day. Last year’s Queen, sister Molly Legat, did the honors in crowning Joanne and in the presentation of a large bouquet of red roses with musical background by Mrs. Ramus singing “A pretty Queen is like a melody”, accompanied again by sister Gerl. Then, Joanne was give her award, a $100.00 bill from the Combined Cleveland branches who sponsored the contest. A beautiful necklace from Rome and the Zveza Ring, with the emblem of S. Z. Z., was then presented by our National Secretary, Albina Novak who was our honored eruest of tiie day. (Picture on cover page.)
Congratulations to Joanne Arko, our Ohio Queen for 1961!
Joanne also happens to be the captain of the St. Clair Drill Team and is a very active member of No. 50. Sho also is a senior in high school and we are all looking forward to her graduation next year and a wonderful career ahead.
The Princess who was honored along with the Queen was a charming young lady from No. 14, Mary Sustar. Because Mary was unable to attend due to other work at the Our Lady Of Lourdes Shrine in Cliardon, her

The pretty queen was also awarded many gifts and an Emblem Ring. .The Convention Queen contest is an annual project sponsored by the combined Cleveland branches and culminates at the State Convention.

4. Address by National Secretary, Albina Novak was one of the highlights of the program. But, to our surprise, though it was very nice and interesting, she made it a short speech this time.
5. Two Tap Dancers, Margie Iiebol and Linda Ki-kel of No. 25 performed with accompaniment by Nancy Keck.
6. Address by Hon. John Fakult, Councilman of the 32nd ward of Cleveland.
7. Baton Twirlers, Kathy and Carol Cook of No. 32, gave a beautiful performance of their baton work which has gained many prizes and ribbons for them.
8. Address by Mr. Matt. Intihar, President of the Slovenian Men's Union of America. Mr. Intihar spoke briefly and congratulated our Zveza and the work we are doing.
9. "Gor čez jezero ” was sung by Ann Dekleva and her daughter, Donna of No. 50, accompanied by Mary Gerl.
10.	“Padel List” sung by Carol Traven and Tillie Ramus with Mary Gerl at the piano which climaxed in the singing of “A pretty Queen” to our new 1960 Queen, Joanne Arko.
The lucky winners who were called were : 1. Portable TV set (Zenith), to Theresa Racher, Niles, O.; 2. $100.00 U. S. Savings Bond to C. Tržaška of Baycroft Ave.; and 5. Coffee maker to Mrs. L. Pavsek of Holmes Ave., Cleveland. Slovenian doll went to Lorain.
Dancing was then the order of the day with John Grabner’s Orchestra supplying the music.
At this time. I wish to thank our National Secretary, Albina Novak, for attending and making this a successful day. A darling Slovenian costume dolly, used for our Convention table centerpiece, was made and donated by Albina, for which we thank her most heartily. Deepest thanks to our hostess, Molly Legat, to all who worked in the kitchen with our cook, Ann Krese-vich (No. 47): to the waitresses, and the lady who had charge of the bar, Rose Zbasnik (No. 73) and her helpers, especially Louise Perhne (42). To all who took part in the program, sincere thanks and the same to all who gave a hand in one job or another.
A great big THANK YOU to Prances Sietz. pres, of No. 50, who had charge of the program.
Hope there was no name omitted — if so. please know that this thank-you is especially for you.

No. 50, Cleveland, Ohio. — Sometimes, as months go by, you sort of get into that ‘‘let down” feeling, as far as lodge work with S. W. U. is concerned; but then, along comes a refresher that stimulates you so much - you keep on working with renewed spirit. That’s the way it happened with us since our wonderful Oct. 2nd Ohio State Day when our members responded so well to help our junior member reach her goal to become 1960 Ohio Convention Queen. As your president, I feel very proud of all the members who so graciously answered our call to work for one of our own. Thanks, girls! The Queen, Joanne Arko, was a lovely one.
Our Rummage and Bake Sales were big successes. We could have used more help - but , unforseen circumstances came along which made it impossible for some of our members to help out that day. But, those who did deserve a big gold medal. Ann Slap-
nik hasn’t attended many meetings this year, but she gave her all at the Rummage Sale along with Toni Tanko. Carol Traven, Mary Bostian, Mamie Marin, and Sophie Zagorc. Thanks to all the members who helped and brought all kinds of articles for the sale as well as baked goods. Working together this way has helped us reach our goal and now we can relax for a while - that is, until our Nov. 21st meeting. All those in favor of sending a big basket of canned goods - coffee, sugar, etc., to the Sisters of the Poor, signify by saying aye! By bringing along an article of staple food to our Nov. Meeting, you will be adding to our basket for the good Sisters. It's always more fun to give someone else a happy Thanksgiving holiday.
I wish to thank Mamie Marin for her suggestion to have the Junior members of our branch serve at the Ohio State Day Banquet. It worked out just fine
and the girls did a marvelous job. We should all be proud of our junior members, especially those who donated their time, talent, and efforts, “God Bless You”. It was a great pleasure to listen to Carol Traven, Ann Dekleva and Tillie Ramus. Hope yen give us this pleasure soon again. A big orchid also is in order for Mary Gerl of Br. 14 who came to our rescue at such short notice. —There were 41 members attending the October meeting—two new members, Frances Sawyer and Joyce Bra-ham were introduced before this assembly. Our annual birthday dinner was then set for Oct. 20th at the White Horse Tavern. More on this next month.
It was reported that the 30 members from our branch who attended the Ohio State Convention banquet had a good time. Also, thanks to the ladies who helped at the affair, especially Rose Zbasnik who was in charge of the bar and Kay Juratovac who was our official delegate. Kay has also been named chairman of the children’s Chrismas Party. We urge you all to attend our December meeting as this will be a very important session with election of officers.
Congratulations to Bonnie Cherosky, daughter of Virginia, who recently became a bride. Our very best wishes to the couple. Also, congratulations to Ann Butorac who became grandma for the 3rd time. Our president, Mary Juratovac has a branch new grandson, too!
Member Caroline Piute recently underwent surgery. Our very best wishes to her for a speedy recovery.

No. 74, Ambridge, Pa. — As I have not had any news to write about for a long time, I guess it’s about time you heard from Ambridge again! We don’t have much of anything happy to report as we are all saddened by the death of another member, sister, Agnes Hotujec. To her sister, Jennie Svegel, we extend our deepest sympathy. Jennie is also our member. We also want to extend our sincere condolences to two of our sisters and their families, namely, Mary Grosdeck and Anna Murchetz, on the loss of their husbands. May the perpetual light shine upon our departed.
Congratulations to my niece, Frances Gorup who has become Mrs. Dom-avitch. We wish her a long and happy married life. She is a member, too.
Lots of luck to sister Rose Prebeg and her family who are making their new home in California. We’ll be thinking about her when the cold weather rolls around.

No. 83, Crosby, Minn. — In spite of the warm weather and with some on vacations, the meetings were well attended this summer. The September meeting was held at Sister Rad-dinovich’s home. The members that attended the Minnesota State Convention in Eveleth had a wonderful time and are looking forward for the 1961 convention. At this meeting, I was presented with a card and gift of money for my son Robert who was in a car accident August Oth and at the present time is still in the hospital. I want to thank all the members that donated.
October meeting was at my home. It was nice to see so many come. After the prayers, minutes and letters read, our Secretary Mary Deblock and Sister Widmar suggested it would be nice if we got lodge badges. All members present were in favor. Sister Widmar will have samples, at the Nov. meeting and then we will decide what kind we will get.
Congratulations to Antonette Deblock and Frances Burgstaler who are proud Grandmas of a new grandson. Best wishes to all members and will see you all at the next meeting.

No. 95, So. Chicago, III. — The summer and fall of 1960 have come and passed, combine the two represent winter. At our October meeting, Christmas seemed to be in the air. The Christmas party will be held Wednesday, Dec. 7th, at 7 p.m. and will be confined to members only.
A special invitation is being extended to all of the older members who may have found it Inconvenient or perhaps impossible to attend the meetings regularly, to come to this special event. Active members are asked to arrange transportation for them. It has also been a practice of exchanging gifts among our members. May we ask you to bring a grab-bag gift, pastry, cakes, jello molds or salads -that is, whatever you choose in this
line to make the party more complete. Money, too, is always acceptable as a donation. The Christmas spirit will prevail at the party with singing of carols, Christmas tree and decorations.
The generous response of members to serve on the committee to handle the Christmas party made us very happy. Those members are: Mildred Cu-zella, Ann Kompare, Mary Nicksic, Mary Perkovich and Anne Pave. All members are urged to attend the Christmas party.
At the October meeting, the contributors of the much-in-demand delicacies were: Mildred James, Phyllis Perko and Dragica Yukasovich and our loyal member, Anna Nagoda donated $2 to our treasury. Prize went to Mary Simunic and a total of $4.40 was realized from the game. Hostesses for the evening were Mary Barcevac, Sylvia Werner and Ann Pave.

There’s plenty of rejoicing in the home of Mr. & Mrs. Robert Sambol who welcomed their first and second daughters, Mary Kathleen and Susan Ann. Their mother, Cathy, is a Japanese war bride who married Robert in Japan 5 years ago. Mary Sambol, the grandmother is very proud, of course. Another son, Edward, celebrated with his wife, (former Dolores Gualdi), their first wedding anniversary in August. We extend our warmest congratulations to these young couples.

Mary Medonich, our treasurer, was absent from our last meeting due to the illness of her mother who has been hospitalized for several weeks. A speedy recovery is wished to our members who were in the hospital and are still convalescing at home: Sophie McNulty, Ann Hlacer, Georgia Gaspar, Alyce Kropel and Cvita Cuzella, who has been ill at home for a long time.

If there is a secret in making chiffon cakes, it comes in beating the whites to the right stage of stiffness, and in using a light and gentle touch * in combining the beaten whites with the liquid ingredients.
Be sure to use a pan which has not been used for butter cakes. If there’s a speck of fat left in the bottom of the pan, it may cause the cake to fall out when it’s inverted after baking This does not make for a high cake.
MARBLE CHIFFON CAKE
Ingredients:
J cup cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup cooking oil 5 unbeaten eggs
(med. size)
3 cup cold water
2 teaspoons Vanilla
1 cup egg whites (7 or8)
J teaspoon cream of tartar.

mourns the double death in one family, that of the Kasmoch and Fischer families of Renton who lost dear ones within a day’s time. Mrs. Helen Strehar Fisher died Sunday, July 17th and the young man, Raymond Kasmoch was killed a day later in an accident at his auto body repair shop. They were cousins. To the grieving families, our heartfelt sympathy. Ray Kas-moch’s mother, Albina Kasmoch and grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Shiffler our members. We pray for the repose of their souls.

J cup sugar i cup boiling water
1 or 2 drops of red food coloring if desired
2 J cups sifted cake flower
1 i cups sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
Mix together the cocoa; boiling water and food coloring. Cool.
Sift cake flower and measure (spooning lightly into the cups.) Combine with sugar, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl.
Make a well in the dry ingredients and add the cooking oil, unbeaten egg yolks, cold water and Vanilla, one after the other. Beat with a spoon until smooth.
Put the egg whites (they must be fresh) and cream of tartar together in a large mixing bowl. Beat until the whites form very stiff peaks. They should be much stiffer than for angel food or meringue. Do not underbeat. Be sure they’re still glossy, not dry.
Pour the egg yolk mixture gradually over the beaten egg whites, gently folding with a rubber scraper or large spoon until blended.
Place half the batter into another bowl. Pour the cocoa mixture gradually over it, gently folding until blended. Immediately spoon out alternate portions of dark and light batter into a 10 inch, ungreased tube pan, first making a thin layer of white batter at the bottom.
Bake in a 325 degree oven for 55 minutes, then turn the temperature to 350 degrees and bake for 15 to 25 minutes, until the top springs back when lightly touched. Remove from oven.
Immediately turn the pan upside down, placing the tube part over the neck of a funnel or bottle. Let hang free of lable until cold.
Loosen from sides and tube with spatula. Frost with butter frosting.

Omit the chocolate mixture and instead of 3 cup of water and 2 teaspoons Vanilla use as following:
ORANGE CHIFFON 3 cup orange juice and 2 teaspoons orange flavoring and 2 tablespoons orange rind.
LEMON CHIFFON
juice of 1 lemon, and water to makefj cup and 2 tablespoons of Lemon Flavoring.
PINEAPPLE CHIFFON 3 cup pineapple juice and 2 teaspoons of pineapple flavoring.
CHERRY NUT CHIFFON 3 cup Marscliino cherry juice, a few cut up cherries and i cup ground walnuts. BUTTER FROSTING 1 cup milk

3	tablespons	butter (unsal-
flour	ted)
1 egg	5	heaping table-
1 tablespoon Va- spoons of pow-nilla	dered sugar
Place milk in top of double boiler until very hot, mix sugar, flour, egg, and Vanilla until creamy. Pour this mixture into hot milk, stirring all the time, until cooked like thick pudding, then place to cool. Must be very cold. Place sweet butter and powdered sugar into mixing bowl and beat it until creamy. Put this mixture into the cold pudding mixture and beat it until creamy. Put this mixture into the cold pudding mixture and beat it all together for 20 minutes.

ZAHVALNI DAN. — V Ameriki vsako leto praznujemo Zahvalni dan. Predsednik Združenih Držav določi dan temu prazniku, ki je navadno zadnji četrtek meseca novembra. Popolnoma umestno in naravno je, da se vsaj enkrat v letu skupno spomnimo vseh dobrot, ki nam jih daje nebo ter se zavedamo neštetih ugodnosti, ki nam jih prinaša življenje. Hvaležni moramo biti tudi, da živimo v svobodni deželi Ameriki, ki nam je postala dobra, nova domovina.
Lansko leto je predsednik Eisenhower pred Zahvalnim dnevom govoril neki skupini v Washingtonu. Njegov govor je bil zelo globok in vseobsegajoč. Prosto prestavljenega v izčrpku tukaj navajam:
' Ali smo Amerikanci ponosni na svojo domovino zato, ker je najbogatejša dežela na svetu?'’ je vpraševal predsednik. “Gotovo ne, saj je dolina reke Nil ena izmed najbogatejših krajev sveta. Moje ožje rojake bo morda zanimalo, da je bil nek-dajni župnik na Rečici ob Savinji č. g. Jože Lipold, ljudski pesnik.
Župnik Lipold se je rodil leta 179G, umrl 1855. Svoje
pesmice je objavljal v Ljubljanskih Drobtinicah, letniki 184(1-1855. Rokopis pesmic je imel celih 53 let v arhivu pokojni inženir Ivan Jager v Minneapolisu. Odstopil ga je dr. F. J. Kernu, ki ga je poslal meni kot rojakinji.
Moja stara mamica, Jera Rozenstein, je večkrat pela priljubljeno, zdaj nad 100 let staro Lipoldovo pesmico:
’Tička v gajb’ci
’Tička je zaprta b’la, v gajbici zeleni,
Sem in tja je skakala, v sili pa nobeni.
Pela je: Dobro je, tukajle.

Gdč Anica Sitar, hotelirka v Dolejnskih Toplicah v Sloveniji, bivša Jolietčanka, je za časa našega obiska pri nej bila odlična gostiteljica. Servirala nam je včasih že kar artistična jedila. Posebno so se mi dopadle “Mesne gobice”, ki niso le okusna jed, temveč tudi prijetna za pogled. Tu je navodila-Mesne gobice
Vzemi % funta semlete teletine, % funta semlete govedine 111 % funta semletega svljnskega mesa. Dodaj eno celo jajce, 3 jedilne žlice drobtin, 3-4 jedilne žlice mleka, malo soli, malo popra, česna če želiš, in par žlic 11a maslu zarumenele čebule. Vse to gneti kakih 10 minut, da postane gladko testo. Iz tega napravi majhne, bolj visoke hlebčke (meat balls) ter jih v vroči masti speči.
V	trdo kuhana jajca na debelem koncu malo odreži, tako, da jih lahko po koncu postaviš. Hlebčke na notrajni strani nekoliko izdolbi in natakni vrh jajca. Če dobro ne stoji, vtakni skozi zobotrebec. Postavi na krožnik eno tako gobico ter okrog nje nadevlji omake, z grahom in na kocke narezanim korenjem, vse kuhano, seveda. To okrasi s fino zrezanim peteršiljem. Zelo lepo se gobice postavijo na plošči zelenjave. Ako želiš gobicam dati več barve, potrosi vrh mesnega hlebčka s sladko rdečo papriko.
Navodila za okusno postno jed.
Omlet (Souffle)
Sneg iz treh beljakov, 3 kavine žličke moke, 3 kavine žličke sladkorja, 3 rumenjake in ščepec soli. Iz beljakov stepemo trd sneg ter vanj prav rahlo zamešamo stepene rumenjake, sladkor in moko. To zmes zvrnemo na vroč in pomazan pločevinast krožnik (pie plate) in pečemo v vroči pečici (425°). Po nekaj minutah je omleta pečena, katero v sredini namažemo z marmelado, upognemo čez polovico in serviramo vročo. Zelo okusna in hitro pripravljena jed!
To poletje sem imela dva ljuba obiska. Za moj rojstni dan je prišla v Sheboygan bivša agilna Zvezina gl. tajnica, prijateljica Josephine Erjavec, s katero se nisva videli že več let. Obiskala me je tudi Mrs. Stephanie Ryan, odlična blagajničarka podružnice št. 28 v Calumetu, Michigan.
Obema najlepšza zahvala za obisk.
KROPIVCEK
Vsaka katoliška hiša je imela navadno poleg bogo-vega kota in molka tudi kropivček ali posodico z blagoslovljeno vodo. Kropivček se je nevadno nahajal na steni pri hišnih vratih na notranji strani.
Zelo ucpe navade so bile združene s tem kropivčkom. Že ime samo pove, da so ljudje rabili kropivček zato, da so pokropili s sveto vodo sebe in stvari. Sveto vodo so prinesli domov z blagoslova svete vode na Veliko soboto ali svetih Treh kraljev ali pa tudi ob kakšnem drugem času, če je bila potreba za to. Sveto vodo so vedno hranili kot dragocen zaklad. Za to so imeli posebno steklenico, ki jo je vsakdo v hiši poznal in vedel, da se v njej nahaja sveta voda. Celo otrokom so zabičali, da steklenico s sveto vodo spoštujejo.
Kadar so ljudje odhajali iz hiše na daljše potovanje, je pokropitev s sveto vodo pred odhodom spadala k pripravi za na pot. V nekaterih družinah je bila celo ta navada, da. so se pokropili s sveto vodo tudi, ko so odhajali na polje ali pa v gozd z namenom, da bi bila božja pomoč z njimi in bi se jim morda kaj hudega ne pripetilo.
Ni minil en večer, da se vsa družina ne bi pokropila s sveto vodo. Mati je celo dvignila malčke, da so se sami pokropili. Tako so otroke navadili na uporabo kro-pivčka na steni. S pokropitvijo so odganjali hudobnega duha, da jim ne bi škodoval ponoči.
Včasih ko sem pozno prišel domov včasih zarado opravkov včasih pa tudi ne, ni bila prva skrb matere ali sem večerjal predno sem odšel spat, ampak skrbelo jo je, če sem se pokropil s sveto vodo ali ne. Če sem pozabil

Drage odbornice in članice:
Se dva meseca imamo za pridobitev novih članic. Kampanja bo zaključena 31. decembra. Nagrade so lepe, samo poguma je treba. Vsaka članica, ki pridobi 30 novih (10 v razred A 10 v razred 13 in 10 v Mladinski odelek), bo dobila POVRATNI VOŽNI LISTEK NA KONVENCIJO V ELY, MINNESOTA. Ker se zavedamo, da imamo tudi male naselbine, kjer bi bilo skoraj nemogoče dobiti 30 novih, zato bo podarjen VOŽNI LISTEK NA ENO STRAN vsaki članici, ki bo pridobila 15 novih članic; ZA DESET NOVIH pa $5.00. Prve dve bodo imenovane “KONVEN-čna Častna delegatinja.”
Gotovo se spominjate leta nazaj, ko je bilo treba pridobiti 100 novih za obratno vožnjo do konvencije, 30 novih, če je velika podružnica, se lahko dobi, samo če je dobra volja. Potrebno je samo, da se zavzamete da boste šle na delo in da hočete imeti uspeli. Imam veliko upanje, da se bodo naše pridne agitatorice zavzele in bomo desegle zaželjeno število novih članic. Apeliram na vse za toplo in iskreno sodelovanje.
DRŽAVNE KONVENCIJE so se lepo istekle, kakor tudo obletnice za to leto. Konvencija v Coloradi je bila Augusta 28tega pod vodstvom sestre Anna Pachak, državne predsednice. Bilo je zelo veliko ljudi, rekli so nad •100. Na seji je bilo zastopstvo od štirih podružnic, en poln atobus je prišel is Denverja. Seja je bila zanimiva, videlo se je, da so članice interesirane za napredek njihovih podružnic kakor tudi organizacije. Podružnica v Denver je sp;ejela Konvencijo za drugo leto. Ne bom ponavljala zgodovino, ker je že bilo poročano v zadnji Zarji od poročevalke pod. 3-Moram dati priznanje tistim pridnim delavkam katere so vse tako lepo uredile da je bil lep uspeh. Mislim da ni bilo človeka, ki ne bi rekel, “lepa zabava, lepa družabnost”. Tudi jaz se zahvaljujem Vam za povabilo in prijaznost do mene, posebno pa še državni predsednici, sestri Anna Pachak in gos. John Pachak za vso postrežbo za časa mojega bivanja pri Vas. Upam, da mi bo kedaj mogoče povrniti, alco pridite na East.
v svoji mladostni razstresenosti, se je že oglasila iz kamre:	Ali si se pokropil z blagoslovljeno vodo. Se
mi je zgodilo, da sem bil že na vrhu stopnic, kjer sem imel sobo in sem se vrnil ter pokropil. Zdelo se mi je, če ne bi tega stovil, da bi mater zelo razžalil in sam bi se počutil tako kakor, da sem naredil kaj hudega.
Pomembni so bili družinski obredi, ko so otroci odhajali v svet, bilo da so se šli učit, ali so se poročili ali so se poročili ali pa kakor drugače začeli svoje samostojno življenje. Ob takih prilikah sta oba oče in mati vzela svete vode in sta stopečega ali klečečega otroka pokrižala in blagoslovila in preprosto rekla:	Bog	te	blagoslovi.
Sveta voda je imela v družini zares velik pomen. Kropivček, ki je vseboval sveto vodo, je vsakega, ki ga je rabil opominjal tiste velike verske skrivnosti, ki nam je pomagala, da smo bili očiščeni izvirnega greha in postali otroci božji. To je svetega krsta. Kakor vodo rabimo za telesno čistoto, tako nas sveta voda opozarja na duhovno čistost in na sveti krst in njegove obljube.
Po svetem krstu smo postali tudi člani cerkve, skrivnostnega telesa Kristusovega. Sveta cerkev blagoslavlja vodo tudi zato, da nas spominja njena uporaba na to članstvo.
Naši predniki so se tega močno zavedali, Ni jim bila potrebna še posebna razlaga o pomenu blagoslovljene vode. Smatrali so, da to spada k življenju človeka prežetega z vero v Boga in njegovo cerkev. Zato jim je kropivček z blagoslovljeno vodo tudi toliko pomenil. Živeli so iz vere v Boga.

KAMPANJA JE V TEKU!
Vesela sem bila srečati zopet gospoda Fr. Gnidica, glavne odbornike različnih organizacij, naše odlične članice in prijatelje naše Zveze, kakor tudi gos. in gospa Butkovich. Hvala vsem za poset!
Druga Konvencija je bila v Eveleth, Minil, v nedeljo
11.	septembra. Zastopala jo je sestra Corinne Leskovar, naša Urednica in bo ona sama poročala. Ta zadnja je pa bila v Cleveland, Ohio, 2. oktobra, kjer je zastopala naša glavna tajnica, A. Novak in bo tudi sama poročila o njej. Dobro vem da so se dobro iztekle, ker imamo v teh dveh državah dobre odbornice, kakor tudi dobre članice, katere gledajo na uspeh in ga tudi do sežejo. Hvala Vam vsem ker se zavedam, da ste imele dosti dela in skrbi.
California je imela Zvezin Dan 25, septembra. Skupaj so korakale h sv. Maši in potem pa v Cliff House za zajterk. Državna predsednica, sestra Rose Scoft' poroča, da so imele zanimiv dan.
To zaključuje konvencije in obletnice za to leto. Zagotovljena sem, da se je vsaka članica, katera se je udeležila teh proslav, nekaj naučila in se bo z veseljem rada udeležila konvencij drugo leto.
1.	november1 je Sveli Svetnikov Dan, naša dolžnost je, da posečemo sveto Mašo.
Me veseli dopisi z San Francisco ko nagovarja sestra F. CHIODO na Turo v Hawaii, naši novi državi ameriški. Tisti ki radi potujete in ste se že naveličale iti v star kraj, imate priliko se združiti s članicam S. Ž. Z. Priglasite se pri sestri Frances Chiodo, 024 San Bruno Ave., San Francisco, Calf.

Odbornice in zastopnice, ki so se udeležile državne konvencije v Clevelandu dne 2. oktobra, 1960, slikane pred novo cerkvijo Marie Vnebovzete na Holmes Avenue z glavno tajnico Albino Novak, ki stoji v sredini prve vrste. —

V	nedeljo 11. septembra sem prisostvovala minnesotski državni konvenciji v Evelethu in v nedeljo 2. oktobra sem bila v Clevelandu na konvenciji ohijskih podružnic.
O	Minnesoti je sestra Lenich poslala za v Zarjo lepo poročilo h kateremu nimam drugega za dodati kot čestitke. Za ohijske podružnice sem pa obljubila sama podati kratko poročilo. Vem, da bodo tudi posamezne poročevalke povedale svoje vtise, tako, da boste bralke Zarje dobile lepo sliko o potekih.
Program za ohijski dan je bil prav lepo razdeljen. Dopoldne smo šle odbornice in delegatke k sveti maši v krasno novo cerkev Marije Vnebovzete. Slovesno sveto mašo je daroval č. g. Varga, ki je nam dal mnogo globokih misli v svoji dobro pripravljeni pridigi za kar mu lepa hvala, kakor tudi g. Martinu Rakarju, organistu, ki je s svojim dobro izvežbanim pevskim zborom, napolnil lep užitek v srca všeh navzočih.
Po sveti maši smo se postavile na stopnice pred cerkvijo, kjer je bila posneta lepa slika, katero vidite na tej strani Zarje. Nato smo se podale v Delavski Dom na Waterloo Rd., kjer smo bile najprvo postrežene z okusnim sirovim in jabolčnim štrudljem ter toplo kavo kar se je vsem prileglo, ker vreme je bilo hladno in to nas je lepo ogrelo.
Okrog ene ure popoldne se je pričelo zborovanje. Predsednica Antonija Tanko je imela pazno sestavljen dnevni red, ker namen je bil, da se ukrene nekaj stvarnega za korist vseh zastopanih podružnic. Prebran jo bil zapisnik lanskega sestanka, katerega je imela točno urejenega sestra Ella Starin ter v celoti odobren. Navzoče so soglasno želele, da sestra Starin zopet vodi zapisnik, in njeno ugovarjanje, da ne sprejme, ni bilo vpoštevano, ampak je morala ugoditi želji. Sestra Starin ima res dar zmožnosti za ta posel.
Zastopnice so podale poročila od svojih podružnic, kakor tudi stavile vprašanja kako napraviti seje vabljive, ker obisk je pri mnogih čedalje slabši. Z veseljem so sprejele lepa navodila od tistih, kjer imajo dobre udeležbe in upati je, da bodo nasveti vpeljani ter obisk povečan.
Predsednica Antonija Tanko je predložila sijajen načrt za prihodnjo skupno prireditev, ki naj bi bila v začetnih mesecih leta 19G1. Načrt je bil soglason sprejet in sodelovanje tudi obljubljeno, saj to je glavno kar privede uspeh, ker v skupnem delu se mnogo doseže. Predložena prireditev bi vsebovala razstavo mode, to je vsakdanje in za poroke ter vseh vrst ročna dela. V tem pride vpoštev tudi mladina, ki dobiva v tem oziru pouk v šoli. Vsaka podružnica bi imela svojo stojnico in lahko se tudi prodaja stvari. Slcupiček gre dotični podružnici , ki bo stojnico uredila. Poleg razstave bodo tudi demonstracije za ročna dela ln tudi za gospodinjstvo, v glavnem kuhinja. Za zabavo bo pa tudi glasbeni del programa, tako, da bo nekaj za vsakega in s tem se bo vzbudilo zanimanje za poset. Kot je bilo videti imajo podružnice v Ohio veliko zaupanje v svojo voditeljico sestro Tanko in njene spretne pomočnice, zato so tudi z veseljem sprejele predložen načrt. Želim vam najlepši uspeh!
Moje priporočila na konvenciji je bilo za tekočo kampanjo. Razdelila vsem vsaki osebno, prošnjo za pridobitev nove članice pred zaključkom kampanje, kar upam, da bodo tudi ugodile, ker to bi bil lep šopek poklonjen Zvezi od zborovalk. Zaključilo se je z dobro voljo vseh navzočih za bodoče skupno delovanje In s tem se je gotovo dosegel cilj državne konvencije.
Ob petih popoldne so se pa zbrali gostje (nad 400 po številu) v banketni dvorani, kjer je bila servirana izvrstna večerja. Čast kuharicam, ki so bile to pot članice od št. 47, Garfield Heights. Gostje niso mogli prehvaliti
Pred-konvenčna Kampanja za nove članice
V	preteklem smo imele vselej naibolj uspešno kampanjo za nove članice pred konvencijo. Pri vsaki pred-konvenčni kampanji smo razpisale zelo mične nagrade za tiste, ki so se potrudile vpisati nove. Letos je pa izmed vseh prejšnjih kampanj, razpisana najbolj privlačna nagrada, namreč PROSTA VOŽNJA NA KONVENCIJO V ELY, MINNESOTA! Prične se 21. Maja, 1961!
Pogoji so dosegljivi in to posebno pri večjih podružnicah, kakor tudi manjših, ker je še povsod polje za pridobivanje novih. Saj veste, da se zdaj sprejema vse narodnosti in to velja tudi za Amerikanke, ki so katoliškega prepričanja. V mladinski oddelek sprejemamo otroke od rojstva do 21 let starosti in asesment je le 10 centov na mesec. V razred A se sprejema kandidatke do 50 let starosti in v razred B do 55 let. Asesment za razred A je 40 centov na mesec in smrtnina je $100.00. Vsaka članica prejema brezplačno mesečnik Zarja, kar je žo vključeno v 40 centih. V razred B se plačuje G5 centov na mesec in smrtnina je po letih, namreč se lahko vpiše dekle od 14 let do 30 let in se dobi $300.00 k pogrebnim stroškom; Od 31 leta do 41 let se dobi $250.00; od 41 do 4C leta $200.00 in od 46 leta do 55 leta $150.00. Zdravniške preiskave se ne zahteva ampak zadostuje izjava prosilke, da je zdrava. V naselbinah, kjer ni podružnice, smo pripravjene dati vsa navodila za ustanovitev, samo pišite na glavni urad 1937 W. Cermak Rd., Chicago 8, Illinois.
Novembra meseca se praznuje Zahvalni dan po vsej Ameriki. Lepo bi bilo, res lepo, nko bi članice v tem mesecu pridobile vsaj nekaj novih članic!
Albina Novak, glavna tajnica
kako je bilo vse okusno pripravljeno in tudi lepo servirano po mladih članicah, katerim je naredila prav mične predpasnike agilna sestra Frances Sietz, tako, da so zgledale kot cvetke med nami. Glavna točka po banketu se je tikala “kronanja kraljice.” To čast je letos dosegla IG letna lepotica, članica št 50 Miss Joanne Arko. Njena stara mamica je Mrs. Rutar zvesta članica št. 25, stanujoča na Norwood Rd. Slike, ki jih vidite v tej Zarji je posnel fotograf Mr. Kaušek iz 185 ceste, za kar smo mu hvaležne, ker slike povedo dostikrat več kot besede. Po kronanju je bil podan glasbeni program s plesi o katerem je poročano v angleškem delu Zarje. Bilo je izvrstno! Vsa pohvala gre odbornicam in osebam, ki so nastopile in pomagale, da so bili vsi gostje zadovoljni. Lepo je bilo slišati, da se vidimo prihodnjič, ker to je dokaz, da je bilo vse izvršeno v lepem redu.
V Clevelandu sem imela ljubenznivo postrežbo pri predsednici Antoniji Tanko, kjer sem prenočevala in ona je tudi izvrstna šoferka in, to je bilo zame zelo udobno, ker v velikem mestu se ne pride nikamor brez avtomobila, ako je čas omejen, kakor je moj ob vsakem obisku. Isto najlepša hvala sestrama Starin in Sietz za gostoljubnost.
K zaključku se želim prisrčno zahvaliti podružnicam v Minnesoti in občinstvu, kakor tudi podružnicam v Ohio in vsem,ki so se udeležili za prijateljsko snidenje. Za mene so sestanki z vami največje važnost in tudi najbolj trajni spomin s katerim polnim svoje misli sleherni dan v življenju. Bog vam obilo poplačaj!

V državah, kjer imamo odbornico, ki neutrudljivo delujejo za dobrobit članstva in Zveze, v tistih krajih je za skupnost velika sreča. Pri vsakem napredku ima glavno vlogo vodstvo, ampak z vodstvom pomeni tudi delo, ogromno delo za nekatere. V Evelethu so članice srečne, kjer imajo neumorno delavko v osebi tajnice, sestre Mary Lenich. Ona je tista oseba, ki drži v rokah vajeti, da gre vse lepo naprej in ne čaka, da bodo drugi delali za njo, ampak se sama poprime dela naj bo to kjerkoli vidi, da je treba. Le škoda, da naša Mary nima več tistega zdravja kot je imela nekdaj, toda jo tudi bolne noge ne
TAJNICE PRI PODRUŽNICAH V OHIO
Na tej sliki vidimo tajnice, ki so se udeležile državne konvencije v Clevelandu dne 2. oktobra, 1960. Žal, da niso bile vse tajnice navzoče ob času, ko je bila slika posneta in so prišle prepozno za slikanje.
V prvi vrsti sedijo od leve na desno: Mary Waltko, podružnica št. 54, Warren, Ohio; Mary Stušek, podružnica št. 49 v Nobie-Euclid, Ohio; Mary Kolanz, podružnica št.
53,	Cleveland-Brooklyn; Mary Otoničar, podružnica št. 25, Cleveland.
V drugi vrsti stojijo od leve na desno: Frances Novak, podružnica št. 15, Newburgh; Ella Starin, podružnica št.
41,	Collinwood; Albina Novak, glavna tajnica; Louise Perhne, podružnica št. 42, Maple Heights; Angela Kozjan, podružnica št. 40, Lorain; Jennie Pugelj, podružnica 47, Garfield Heights.
Pri vsaki podružnici ima tajnica najožji stik s članicam, saj gre vse važno poslovanje skozi njene roke. Zato se mnogokrat sliši, da je tajnica “duša društva”, kar tudi odgovarja resnici, ker ona skrbi za blagostanje članic. Dal Bog, da bi članice upoštevale delo naših tajnic ter jim skušale napraviti uradovanje prijetno in, da bi redno prišle na seje ter Isodelovale pri prireditvah!
motijo, ona dela dokler jo noge„le pokonci držijo. Sreča za nas je tudi v drugem oziru, namreč, kjer so možje potrpežljivi in ženi pomagajo, naj bo to pri društvenem delu ali doma. Take vrste mož je Tone Lenich, ki ima skozi ves čas pripravljanje vprežen svoj avto in vozi skupaj stvari kakor tudi svojo ljubeznivo ženko kamor je treba in to brez vsakega godrnjanja. Taka lepa navada se prav gotovo ne najde pri vseh možeh, le tu in tam se pojavi. Vsa čast naj bo tem potom izrečena obema, Mary in Tonetu Lenich, za tisočere doprinose v korist Zveze. Obenem tudi iskrena zahvala za vso gostoljubnost, ki sta jo izkazala Leskovarjevim in meni za časa obiska. Dobila sta novo sorodstvo, ker naša mala dva zdaj večkrat omenita: “strica Toneta in teto Mary” in spominjata se tudi psa “Lisa”, s katerim sta imela mnogo veselja.

DOPISI
Št. 1, Sheboygan, Wis. — Živele članice naše podr.! Na zadnji seji smo slišale zaključno poročilo o finančnem uspehu javne večerje 25. sept. v cerkveni dvorani. Imamo lep prebitek 318 dol., ki je določen za novo hišo šolskih sester. Skupna vsota v ta namen sedaj znaša 625 dol.—-To je izredno lep uspeh, ker tudi dr up; a cerkvena in pod. društva imajo določeno svoto v isti namen, toda članstvo je pri mnogih isto. Naslednji odbor je imel v oskrbi to prireditev: Frances Melanz, huhinjo. Anna Modez, jedilnico. Margaret Fischer, vstopnice, Marie Prisland, reklamo Mary Godez, Ana Zavrl in Mary Vertačič. Najlepšo zahvalo in priznanje smo dolžne Frances. kuharici, ki je prevzela težko odgovornost in je tudi velikodušno odklonila mali dar za njen trud. Izrazila se je kakor to že večkrat, bo nam že Bog plačal, saj smo se trudile za dober namen. Torej še enkrat vsem, ki ste delale, darovale razne jestvine in na kakršen koli način pripomogle k lepemu uspehu—BOG PLAČAJ.
Želim tudi opozoriti članice, da je bilo sklenjeno, da bomo imele glavno letno sejo 3 nedeljo v decembru in to skupno z Christmas programom in večerjo pri članici M. Germ v Stanford dvorani. Vsaka bo osebno ali telefonsio obveščena, kakor tudi preko Zarje. Imele bomo tudi Miklavža in zamenjavo daril in sicer hankie v vrednosti 50tf. Torej pripravite se in ospičkajte rutice, da jih bomo imele v spomin za nad vse uspešno in dobro leto 1960.
Rada bi se tudi zahvalila podr. za tolažilne in sožalne izraze ob smrti moje mame Mary Brulla, ki je za vedno zaspala dne 26. sept. v starosti 87 let. Trpela je nad 30 let za mučno boleznijo diabetis, ali sladkorno. Pred 14 leti je izgubila eno nogo, a drugo 1. 1954. Vsa leta je živela pri sinu in snahi Joe Brulla. Z zlatom bi ne poplačali moji svakinji Tončki in njenim hčerkam Phyllis in Regina, ki so tako potrpežljivo skrbele za mamo in ji lajšale mučno trpljenje in popolne onemoglosti. Gotovo jim bo dobri Bog poplačal za vse kar so storile za našo mamo.
Pretrpela je in dočakala visoko starost, vdana v božjo voljo. Naj ji bo ohranjem blag spomin in naj ji sveti večna luč.

Št. 2, Chicago, III. — Lepo število nad 30 članic je bilo na okt. seji. Razgovor se je vršil o t. zv. “penny social”, ki bo 10. nov. na večer naše redne seje. Ta večer ne bo seje, ker bomo imele igre in prigrizek, toda tajnica Mary Muller bo pripravljena, če bo katera plačala članarino. Za ta večer prosimo, da povabite s seboj prija-
teljice in sosede, ker bo odprto tudi za ne-članice. Ker bo lep, zabaven večer, morda povabite katero, ki bi se zanimala pristopiti. Potrebno bo mnogo dobitkov, zato prosimo, da prinesete kako stvar. Počastile bomo tudi rojstne slavljenke meseca novembra in ker sta tudi naše preds. Albina Novak in tajnica Mary Muller obe novemberski slavljenki, obeta biti dobra zabava.
To-letna Božičnica je v rokah odbora, ki bo pripravil vse načrte V odboru so: preds. Novak, tajnica Muller, blagajničarka Mary Tomazin, zapisnikarica Corinne Leskovar, nadzornice Liz Zefran in Jean Kovačič ter članice: Štefka Osterman, Frances Gomilar in Albina Rakovec. Božičnica bo najbrž na večer naše seje dne 8. dec.
Zelo lepo je bilo videti 4 nove članice, ki so bile sprejete tega večera. Nove so: gdč. Celestine Kavcic, Mrs. Leben. gdč. Alma Helder, gdč. Margie Prah, Mrs. Anna Špehar je tudi nova članica. Upamo, da bomo videle njihove nasmejane obraze na mnogih sejah. V zadnjem času smo imele sprejem novih na vsaki seji in naša bodoča Častna delegatinja, Anna Zorko ima že dve tretjini svoje kvote ter potrebuje samo še 10 novih, kar upamo, da bo kmalu doseženo.
Naše globoko sožalje družini Mrs. Frances Dolenc, ki je umrla 19. okt. Iskrene želje za hitro okrevanje Josephine Dolinar.
Na podlagi priporočila nadzornic je bilo sklenjeno, da pričenši v januarju, bo tajnica samo omejeni čas poslala opomine. Zaradi tega priporočamo, da vse, ki še dolgujejo na članarini za to leto, pridejo na eno izmed naslednjih sej ter poravnajo.
Preds. je tudi priporočala, da bi poskusile organizirati posebni bus iz Chicaga na Zvezino konvencijo v Ely, Minn, prihodnje leto.
Ob koncu seje so članice zopet prejele od naše preds. lepo darilce, svetinjo Sv. Krištofa v spomin na Kolumbov dan. Tudi smo imele kra-

6.	nov. ob 3 uri pop. v Wozniakovi dvorani na 2530 So. Blue Island. Na programu sodelujejo slov. pevski zbori, plesalne skupine, solisti in odlični gostje. Zvečer bo ples in volitev kralja in kraljice slov. valčkov. Mestni svet je s posebno županovo prokla-macijo označil šesti november za SLOVENSKI DAN V CHICAGU v počastitev 10 let slov. radijskih oddaj. Vabljeni!

Št. 3, Pueblo, Colo. — Poročam žalost mojih sorodnikov, ker je dne 17. julija nenadoma umrl Frank Kočevar. Bil je popolnoma zdrav. 6. sept. je umrla njegova žena Frances, ki je bila bolana več tednov, a je umrla nenadoma na stolu v bolnišnici. To še ni bilo dovolj. Dva dni po njeni smrti sta. se v avtu oba smrtno poneč srečila Dr. Harry in žena Grace Wagner. Omenjena sta bila na poti doma, poklicana s počitnic na pogreb Frances, rodne sostre Mrs. Wagner. Za vse nas je bila žalostna pot, ker sta bila 2 pogreba v enem dnevu. Naše iskreno sožalje Danieli Klintz in Ermi Drobnich, sestram pokojnih in vsem preostalim. Vsi bomo šli po poti usode, a odšli ste v cvetju mladosti, ker tako je pač volja božja.
Sosestra Pauline Jamnik žaluje za bratom Frank Mohorcich in ses. Theresa Plut za zetom Matt Košak. Tudi ta sta mladostna umrla za srčnim napadom, tako tudi Louis Vidic brat Anne Peček. Vsi pokojni so dokončali svojo pot. Naj mirno počivajo v hladni zemlji. Umrl je tudi Frank Skul. Njegova soproga, ki je bila naša zvesta članica, je umrla pred leti. Edith Moody sprejmi naše sožalje, kakor tudi ostalo sorodstvo.
Bolana je Katy Kralic, ki se zdravi v bolnišnici, kakor vsako jesen ko jo napade sladkorna bolezen. Mary Ogulili je bila operirana na očeh. Katy Jaklovich je prestala operacijo na vratu. Imela je hude bolečine. Mary Dolgan si je poškodavala rebra pri padcu v hiši. Rekla je, povsod sem hodila, tudi v starem kraju, pa se ni nič zgodilo, toda doma sem jo tako na lepem dobila. Frances Golob na domu in dobra soseda Mary Papež ji streže kot nurse ter ji krajša ure bolezni. Bog povrni vsem to ljubo zdravje.

člane so lepe. Priporočam za agitacije kajti čas je kratek. Nagovorite svoje prijateljice, da pristopijo, da nas bo večje število pri Zvezi. Bližajo se daljši večeri. Pueblo, Colo. Dne 28. ang. je bilo pri nas vse praznično in veselo razpoloženo, ker snidenje s članicami iz vse Colo. je bilo nadvse razveseljivo. Naša drž. konvencija je sijajno uspela v vseh ozirih. Na banketu je bilo navzočih 370 gostov. Konvenčna seja je bila zanimiva in polna koristnih predlogov za prihodnjo gl. konvencijo. Gl. preds. Josephine Livek je podala predlog, da bi se ustanovili mladinski krožki pri podružnicah. Več drugih predlogov je bilo na vrstnem redu. Hvala Mrs. Livek za udeležbo, ker smo se želele osebno spoznati znjo Je družabna in dobra govornica, zato smo jo ljubeznivo sprejele.
Ves program se je lepo razvijal. Banketa se je udeležilo več odličnih osebnosti; poleg našega duhovnega svetovalca tudi častiti g. škof Charles Buswell ter še 3 duhovniki, dalje State senator Peter Culig, Mike Kikel, District Attorney in ves štab glavnega urada Zapadne Slovanske Zveze in njihove soproge:	Mike	Popovich

S.K.J. John Germ. Hvala vam. Vse smo bile vesele obiska 60 članic iz Denverja in 20 iz Canon City. Št. 6, Barberton, O. — Tajnica št. 6. poroča, da smo samo 4 članice prišle na 86 — 15th St. in zato nismo imele seje. Ne vem zakaj ni več zanimanja. Vsekakor upam, da boste prišle v lepem številu na sejo v decembru in izvolile nov odbor, ki vam po volje. Nekaj članic je v zaostanku z mesečnim asessnientom in prosim, da po-
Minn., in domačega društva M. Čistega Spočetja, katerega predsednica je Angela Škerjanc. Z nami so bile tudi naše ustanoviteljice. Emilia Pe-chaver, Frances Mikatich, Mary Boza-ich, Mary Strumbel, Frances Gornik, a zaradi bolezni so bile odsotne: Gertrude Muhich, Mary Kocman in Anna Butkovich.
Naše mlade članice so nam zapele Zvezino himno in še druge pesmi. Mary T. Kalinger je krasno zapela tisto ‘ Tam kjer murke cveto”. Cerkveni pevski zbor je lepo prepeval slovensko med sv. maše in na banketu. Vodja proslave je bil John Butkovich, ki je vse spretno uredil.
Pred konvenčno sejo smo imele razstavo ročnih del in predpasnikov ter se je vse dobro prodalo. Posebna zahvala Jenny Kočevar in Olga Mesojedec, ki sta izvrstno okrasile place cards.
Toliko dobrega se je storilo, da ne najdem besed zahvale, ker ste vse pomagale in darovale. Naj še omenim vesele in poskočne polke, ki sta jih igrala Johnnie Pavšek in Frank I-Ia-bich, tako dobro, da se je vse vrtelo po dvorani.
Splošna zahvala vsem skupaj. Prihodnja drž. konvencija se bo vršila v Denver, Colo. Ponovna hvala Mollie Svigel in Cecilia Adamich, ki sta pripeljale tako veliko število članic in prijateljev iz Denverja.

Št. 10, Cleveland, O,-—Komaj smo čakale, da smo se zopet zbrale, po minulih počitnicah, na sept. seji. IJ-pale smo, da bo velika udeležba, toda je bilo vse po starem in pičla navzočnost. Po seji smo slavile rojstni dan naše dolgoletne preds. M. Urbas in pa računske nadzornice J. Košir. Sestre so prinesle veliko dobrot, da je bila miza preobložena. Ne bom imenovala vsako posebej, ki je kaj prinesla, ker to bi vzelo preveč prostora, toda omeniti moram, da je J. Baticli prinesla tako lep birthday cake, da ga je bilo škoda rezati, poleg tega pa je še naredila krasen šopek domačih cvetlic za našo preds. Tako lepo perfektno je bil narejen, kakor da je kupljen v cvetličarni in ko ga je pripela S. Urbas, je bila tako ganjena, da so ji solze stopile v oči. Blagajničarka M. dami, katere je ona sama zložila in napisala nalašč za to priliko. Sestra Urbas se je vsem članicam prisrčno nahvalila za tako naklonjenost in ljubezen, ki ji sestre izkazujejo. Tako se je končal lep večer.
V blagajno so darovale sledeče sestre: A. Novak preostanek od ases-menta $2.25, Mary Preskar $2.00, M. Bubnich $3.00, sestre Vrečko in Avsec skupno $5.20 in Mary Urbas $1.00. V-sem skupaj najlejša hvala.
V juliju je preminula na obisku v starem kraju naša članica J. Spiler. Pokopana je bila v Ljubljani. Tukaj zapušča sina in hčerko ter več drugih sorodnikov. Naj ji bo lahka domača zemlja in Bog daj njeni duši večni mir. Žalujočim ostalim naše sožalje.
Sedaj pa malo o naši State konvenciji. Ako bo vse napisala, kar bi rada, bi mi vzelo preveč časa in prostora, zato bom pa bolj na kratko napisala. Toda jaz sem tudi taka kot naša gl. talnica, A. Novak; ona vedno pravi, veste ne bom veliko govorila, bom prav kratka, toda ko enkrat začne govoriti o Zvezi, se pa ne more ustaviti, taka sem jaz v pisanju. Program se je pričel z mašo pri Mariji Vnebov-zeti v Collinwoodu in končal z zborovanjem in banketom ter plesom v Delavskem domu na Waterloo. Uspeh je bil v vseh pogledih, ker udeležba je bila prav lepa in vse je bilo Židane volje. Bolj natančno bodo pa že druge napisale. Ker nam je prostor v Zarji odmerjen, bom pa za danes skončala, z željo, da bi Zveza dobila veliko novih članic in vse prav lepo pozdravljam,

Št. 12, Milwaukee, Wis. — Vabim vse članice na sejo dne 7. decembra v cerkveni dvorani in to točno bo 1 uri popoldne. Na dnevnem redu so volitve odbora za 1. 1961, zato še posebno prosim, da pridete v obilnem številu in si izvolite odbor, ki bo delal za napredek podr. in Zveze. Tudi prosim, da bi pridobile nove članice, ker zmeraj izgubimo kako sestro, a sedaj je v teku kampanja, ki bo trajala do 31. dec. 19G0.
Na bolniški listi imamo več sester: Mary Sustar, Josephine Kusnik, Anne Trogar, Mary Koren, Carolyn Skru-bey, Mary Jerej, Kathy Stuller, Josephine Berginz, Mary Koropec. Prosim obiskujte bolne sestre, če vam je mogoče. Iskrene čestitke pošiljamo sestri Josephine Tramte in soprogu za 50 letnico. Mnogo sreče in zdravja v bodočnosti. Happy birthday vsem sestram, ki v novembru slavijo svoje rojstne dieve, prav posebno se nasl gl. tajnici Albini na 5. nov. in naši predsednici, ki ga bo slavila 8. nov.

št. 12, Milwaukee, Wis. — Poročam, da smo se po dveh mesecih počitnic zopet znašle kolikor toliko zdrave in zadovoljne na mesečnih sejah septembra in oktobra. V zadovoljstvo odbora vestne članice ne zamude pose-titi seje, ker je tudi po seji dana prilika se zabavati s kartami posebno še katerim je sreča mila. To bi se tako-rekoč reklo. Malo pa iz srca” ker gre v dober namen. Tudi kafe je dober priležek pri takozvanem trudapolnem študiranju za dobitek. Katere pa se ne razumemo na karte, pa tresemo kocke s črnimi pikami, da kar skače-po mizah, kar je ravno tako razveseljivo in zabavno. Pridite članice zana-prej še v večjem številu posebno v zimskih popoldnevih v toplo dvorano. Saj smo že skoro vse v letih in tako ni posebnega zadržka, da bi se ne mogle udeležiti vsaj parkrat na določeni dan. Ker bo v prihodnjem letu konvencija “Ženske zveze” treba bi bilo da tako pred konvencijo raz-motrivamo ako mogoče kaj najboljšega za bodoča leta v korist zveze in članic posebno če bi stem pridobile mlajšega članstva v našo sredo, da bi tako nadaljevale delo. Pred kratkim sta praznovala zlato poroko dolgoletna članica Mr. & Mrs. John Perkivich v krogu svojih družin in prijateljev. Želeča jima obilo sreče in dobrega zdravja še mnoga leta. Sosestra Anna Ramšak (poprej Fri-škovec) tudi članica naše podružnice sta se z možem podala v tople kraje Arizona kot mi je poročala. Želeča njima tudi še mnogo zdravih in za-dovoljinh let, kjer se bosta naselila, mogoče pa tudi vrnila zopet v našo sredo Milwaukee.
Ne smem tudi pozabiti našo dobro in delavno članico naših prireditev sosestro Katty Stuler ki se je začasno podala zaradi slabega zdravja
v	Mt. Carmel nursery home 4G30 S. 60 St., Milwaukee.
Prosim, da ji lajšate bolezen z bodrilnimi karticami. Vse članice naše podružnice ji žele naj jo Bog obvaruje in podeli zdravje.

Št. 14, Euclid, O.— Banket skupnih društev je z nami. Udeležilo se ga je veliko število članic. Na programu je bilo petja	in ples,	kar	je trajalo
kar pozno v	noč.
Na seji 4.	okt.	je	bila	bolj pičla
udeležba, ker se nam bliža mraz in zima, smo pričele	zabavo	znotraj s
priljubljeno igro. Prebitek igre gre za kosilo, ki ga nam pripravljajo pri Lapovih v Geneva. Odpeljemo se Izpred slov. doma dne 16. t. m.
Sredi okt sta se vrnila iz potovanja po Evropi naša podpreds. Mary Stražišar in njen mož Jože. Odsotna sta bila od aprila t.l. Naš moravski dekan g. Franc Vralih so darovali sv. mašo pri Lurskl votlini dne 9. okt. za vse moravske farane in drugi dan so se vrnili domov med svoje vernike.
Gl. polpreds. Mrs. Frances Globokar priporoča pridobitev kaj novih članic in enako naša preds. nas opominja na vsaki seji. Članica Mrs. Pojetova je hudo zbolela, nahaja se v bolnišnici. To leto je bila hudo bolna tudi Mrs. Frances Gorše, naša dobra dolgoletna članica. Četudi se ni mogla udeleževati sej, pa je vseeno vsako leto darovala v našo “good time” blagajno. Priporočam, da jo greste obiskati. Drugih važnih poročil ni bilo na tej seji, zato preds. zaključi sejo z molitvijo za zdravje vseh naših bolnih članic.

—	Seje meseca septembra seje udeležilo prav lepo število članic. Po seji pa so nas pogostile z izvrstnim pecivom in kavo sledeče sosestre katere so v zadnjih štirih mesecih praznovale svoje rojstne dneve:	Pre-
dsednica Frances Lindič, Mary Hrovat, Rose Perko, Jennie Resnik, Anfeela Stražar, Rose Vatoves, Mary Rožanc, Frances Novak In moja malekost. Vsem tem kakor tudi drugim izrekamo naše čestitke z željo da bi dočakale še mnogo zdravih in srečnih rojstnih dni.
Drage sestre: Vljudno ste vabljene že sedaj na glavno sejo, ki sebo vršila 14 decembra, ker po volitev odbora in razmotrivalo se bo tudi. O drugih važnih zadevah. Po seji bomo Imele iz-
menjavo daril v vrednosti en dolar. Pridite vse.
Pri družini Mr. in Mrs. Frank Lamut se veselijo sinka prvorojenca. Mlada mamica je hčerka naše nadzornice Angele Stražar. Naše čestitke vsem skupaj.
V	bolnišnico se je morala podati sestra Jennie Trsinar ker si je pri padcu hudo poškodovala roko. Sedaj se zdra-
vi	pri hčeri Albini. Dobri mamici želimo hitrega okrevanja.
Zvezin dan podružnic SŽZ iz Ohio je prav dobro uspel ob 10:30 smo se uleležile Sv. maše v cerkvi Marije Vnebovzetje, po sv. maši pa smo se podale v Slovensko Delavsko Dvorano na Waterloo, kjer seje vršila konvencija. Sejo je otvorila predsednica Mrs. Antonija Tanko. Nato je sledil govor naše glavne tajnice Albine Novak in nato poročila podružnic. Po seji smo se podale v spodnje prostore kjer seje vršil banket, katerega se je udeležilo prav lepo število članstva in drugih. Po večerji pa seje razvil lep program, katerega je vodila naSa državna predsednica Antonija Tanko. Vršilo seje kronanje kraljice katero čast si je zaslužila mlada Joanoie Arko. Vesele smo se vračale domov z željo da se zopet tako skupno snidemo v letu 1961.

Št. 18, Cleveland, Ohio — Pozdravljene vse podružnice! Vsa čast marljivim odbornicam in članicam, ki so pomagale, da se je državna konvencija, ki se je vršila 2. oktobra, tako dobro obnesla. Uspeh je bil čudovit, le škoda, da ni bilo še več članic od naše podnižnice navzočih. Prav gotovo bi imele lep užitek, kakor smo ga tiste, ki smo se udeležile. Pri nas je vedno veselje, kadar nas obišče glavna tajnica Albina Novak in smo ji hvaležne, da pride med nas vsaj ob važnih prireditvah. Jaz nisem mogla veliko pomagati, ker me je roka bolela, katero sem poškodovala pri padcu in me še danes boli. Prav lepa hvala naši vrli državni predsednici Antoniji Tanko za njeno požrtvovalno vodstvo. Isto pridna je tudi sestra Frances Sietz. Banket je bil izvrsten, zakar gre to pot zahvala našim pridnim kuharicam iz Garfield Hgts., od podružnice št. 47. Vsa čast Vam! Čestitke naši mladenki, kraljici, ki se je tako lepo potrudila in zmagala za naj višjo čast! Razstava v pomladi bo gotovo spet uspela!

Jubilant je ob enajstih daroval slovesno sveto mašo; kot diakon mu je asistiral Rev. Dr. Emil Hodnik, župnik fare St. Mary, Custer,Wise., kot subdiakon pa Rev. Dr. Jože Gole, profesor bogoslovja v Sacred Heart samostanu pri Hales Corners, Wis. Slavnostni govor je imel Rev. Eugene Comiskey, župnik fare Holy Ghost, Chippewa Falls, Wis.

Rev. Rudolf Urbič je bil rojen v' Sevnici ob Savi v Sloveniji. V duhovnika je bil posvečen 22. septembru 1935 v Šibeniku v Dalmaciji. Novo mašo je pel v Sevnici.
Oltarno društvo fare Sv. Janeza Krstnika v Cooks Valley je pripravilo in postreglo z zelo okusnim kosilom 125—tim duhovnikom in gostom, ki so prišli iz Milwaukee—ja, West Al-lisa, New Lisbon—e, Willarda, Bloomer—a, Tilden—a in C°*£a*—a-
Sprejem faranov je bil od 2h do 6h popoldne. Udeležencem je pri tem sprejemu postreglo Oltarno društvo v. dobrim prigrizkom.
Cvetje za oltar je darovalo Oltarno društvo. Sestre Notre Dame iz fare so okrasile oltar zelo pomenljivo z rumenimi in belimi krizantemami, s srebrnimi listi ter z grozdjem in pšeničnim klasjem.
Cerkveno dvorano je zelo prikupno okrasil farni 4 H klub.
Torte, ki so bile slavnostno okrašene za to slavje, so spekle n darovale Mrs. Mary Petrich, agilna tajnica društva KSKJ 165 pri fari Marija Pomoč Kristjanov v West Allisu in še dve faranki iz Cooks Valley.
Pri slavju je bila navzoča slavljenčeva sestra Mrs. Frank Imperl, iz West Ailisa, ki je letos s svorim možem praznovala zlato poroko. Na slavje so prav tako prihitele tri slavljenčeve nečakinje Misses Josephine, Emilie in Carolyn Imperl ter slavljenčeva nečaka Mr. Frank Imperl, Jr. in Mr. Ernest Imperl. Tudi Mrs. Frank Imperl, Jr. je bila tam z otroci Jean Marie, Diane Susan in James Michael. Vsem tem sorodnikom se je pridružil šeMr. Louis Wamberger, mož pokojne slavljenčeve sestre Lojzke.
Med gosti so bili tudi naslednji: Mr. In Mrs. Anton Floryan, Anthony Marolt s sinom Anthony, Michael Benesch, Anton Bohte, Mr. in Mrs. J. Panhaus St., in ml. s sinovi Mathew, Gregory in Joseph. Št. 19, Eveleth, Minn. — Slikovita jesen je že med nami. Vsek si gotovo želi več tako lepih dmi, kot je na primer danes, ko toplomer kaže 72 stopinj. Pri nas je zima precej dolga, zato so nam taki lepi dnevi ob tem času zelo všeč.
Moj dopis bo v glavnem poročilo
o	poteku minnesotskega državnega Zvezinega dne, ki se je vršil v nedeljo 11. septembra. Letos je bila gostiteljica naša podružnica in to po 19 tih letih. Prvi Zvezin dan za našo državo se je vršil v našem mestu v letu 1941. Po letih se to sliši dolgo, ampak v resnici se nam je zdelo kot, da ni tako davno odkar smo se pripravljali za sprejem gostov. V veliko veselje je meni kot vem, da tudi vsem članicam pripravljalnega odbora, da je potek dneva sijajno uspel in nad vse smo pa vesele velikega zanimanja za poset. Zastopanih je bilo IG podružnic, ki so raztresene po vseh delih države.
Letos smo imele čast imeti v svoji sredi našo ljubeznivo urednico Co-rinne Leskovar, ki se je pripeljala iz Chicago z avtom in ž njo soprog dr. Ludvik Leskovar, sinček, hčerka in mama, naše glavna tajnica Albina Novak. Obisk slednjih je vse iznenadil in veselje je bilo nepopisno, ko so članice izstopale iz busov pred mestnim avditorijem in bile prijazno pozdravljene po imenovanih gostih. Taka presenečenja so res lepa in spravijo družbo takoj v veselo razpoloženje.
Lep običaj, da se zunanje goste postreže s kavo in pecivom smo tudi pri nas obdržale. Marljive članice: Mary Happy, Mary Jagonich, Margaret Lenich, Dolly Janc Agosei, Prances Fister in Mrs. Vrhovnik so servirale pri lepo okrašeni mizi, ki je bila obložena z vsakovrstnim pecivom, vse doma narejeno, zato toliko bolj okusno.
Ob četrt na enajst (10:15 A. M.) smo se skupno podale v cerkev sv.
Družine, kjer je bila naročena sv. maša za ob pol enajstih.
Ob vstopu v cerkev se je iz kora slišalo izborno petje pod vodstvom organista g. Vilkota Kuntara. Naš č. g. župnik Father Jershe nam je bil zelo prijazno naklonjen v vseh ozirih in je poskrbel, da so reditelji rezervirali dovolj klopi za vse goste ter jih lepo spremili do sedežev. Faranom je bilo tudi naročeno, da dajo za to mašo prednost zunanjim obiskovalcem in to so tudi storili.
Sveto mašo, za žive in mrtve članice Zveze, je daroval sam g. župnik, ki je v svoji pridigi lepo pohvalil delovanje Zveze ter nam čestital nad zaslugami, kar je bilo lepo za slišati od g. župnika. Med mašo je pevski zbor prepeval prelepe Marijine pesmi, ki so marsikateri privabile solze v oči od ginjenosti. Oltarji so bili tudi krasno okinčani s cvetlicami, za kar sta se potrudila g. organist in njegova ljubezniva soproga, gospa Kuntara, ki je tudi naša članica. Po sveti maši je g. župnik vodil skupno molitev v zahvalo za pretekle blagoslove in s prošnjo za blagoslovljeno bodočnost. Pri naši fari smo res srečni, da imamo zelo prijaznega župnika, požrtvovalno cerkveno osobje in zlasti smo veseli slišati vsako nedeljo pri sveti maši ob pol devetih, krasno petje. Vse to nam daje duševni užitek nepopisne vrednosti.
Po sveti maši smo korakale nazaj v mestni avditorij, kjer je bila pripravljena velika dvorana za zborovanje, oziroma državno konvencijo, katero je vodila predsednica Barbara Kosandich. Prebran bil zapisnik lan-kega zborovanja ter v celoti potrjen. Za letos je sprejela posel zapisnikarice naša vrla Mary R. Lushene, ki je predsednica banke v Biwabiku in v vseh ozirih zelo zmožna. Na dnevnem redu so bila poročila podružnic, v katerih se je slišalo več stvarnih priporočil za izboljšanje udeležbe pri mesečnih sejah podružnic in kako navdušiti mladino za Zvezo. Podružnica
št. 33 v Duluth je pa prejela nagrado za pridobitev največ članic od časa zadnje državne konvencije.
V	svoji sredi smo imele zastopnico glavnega odbora v osebi urednice Co-rinne Leskovar, ki si je s svojim navduševalnim govorom pridobila srca vseh navzočih, glavno tajnico Albino Novak, ki je pri nas kakor doma, ker pride večkrat in jo imajo članice zelo rade; Anna Podgoršek, glavna nadzornica, ki se vsako leto pridno potrudi, da pripelje poln bus članic iz Dulutha in je med nami zelo spoštovana. Slučaj, dasi žalostne vrste, je prinesel, da je bila med nami tudi predsednica države Ohio, sestra Antonija Tanko, ki je izgubila svojega soproga Antona v Clevelandu in to nagle smrti ter je bil pripeljan v Chisholm, rojstni kaj sestre Tanko, za pogreb. Njej gre naše globoko sožalje nad veliko izgubo, kakor tudi želje, da si bo našla mnogo ur utehe pri delovanju za procvit Zveze v katero se je zadnja leta zopet vpoglo-bila. Ona je raztolmačila podružnicam, kjer imajo mlajše članice, kako naj gredo na delo za ustanovitev športa in to zlasti kegljanja, ker ni mesta, da ne bi imeli kegljišča na razpolago. Zborovanje se je zaključilo ob eni popoldne na kar smo se vse podale v banketno dvorano, kjer so nas čakale lepo okrašene mize in brhke natakarice, ki so takoj bile na delu da so gostje dobili svoje sedeže.
Banket je bil pod oskrbo Holy Family Guild, to je družba, ki ima mnogokrat to delo v oskrbi in med njimi so skoraj vse naše članice.
Stoloravnateljica slavnostnega banketa in programa je bila naša vešča, dobro poznana sestra Mary Brank, ki ima v tem oziru tudi mnogo prakse in smo vedele, da bo tudi za nas to vlogo lepo izvršila in tako je tudi bilo. Podrobnosti o programu boste brale v angleških dopisih in zato bom jaz omenila le glavne točke.
Pri govorniški mizi so sedeli naši odlični gostje: č. g. župnik Father Jershe, kongresnik Mr. John Blatnik, župan Mr. Joe Jagunich, soprog urednice dr. Ludvik Leskovar, urednica Corinne Leskovar, ki je bila naša glavna govornica, ter ostale glavne odbornice, odbornice naše podružnice in naše podružnice in naše pionirke stare nad 80 let ter naša zaslužna mati (Mother of the year) sestra Mary Shukle.
Vsak izmed govornikov je imel mnogo lepega za povedati in to v kratkih opisih. Navzoči so poslušali z velikim zanimanjem in posebno našega g. župnika, ki je pripovedoval o starem kraju, kjer je bil to poletje na obisku. Gotovo je mnoge navdušil za potovanje, ker bi se vsak rad sam prepričal
o	krajih in običajih rodne domovine staršev. Da smo pa imeli še večji užitek od programa so se med govori vrstile pevske in glasbene točke za katere so poskrbeli naši mladi talenti.
Najboj izredna točka je bil nastop Mihelčičevih deklet šest po številu, ki so nam zapele lepe domače pesmice pod vodstvom g. Kuntara, ker oče ni mogel biti ž njimi vsled zaposlenosti; on je organist na fari v Gilbertu. Od te družine imamo sedem članic pri podružnici; namreč: mater in šest hčerk, kar je res lepo!
Slišali smo mlado pianistko, Mary Margaret Vukelich in saxaphone—piano duet ki so igrali Georgette Rapo-vich in Marilyn Techer. Mlada govornica je bila Ilenite Goričan. Nekaj veselih komadov na harmoniko je zaigral tudi Pranlcie Smoltz (moj sin) in hčerka Barbara je spremljala na klavirju. Navzoči so želeli, da j i m zaigra tudi par komadov za skupno petje, kar je tudi storil. Veliko veselje je bilo za nas slišati osebno naš slavni moški zbor, ki nastopa na prvo nedeljo v mesecu na slovenski radijo uri. Vodja je g. Kuntara, sam izboren pevec, ki je zbor izvrstno izvežbal za nastop pred vsako publiko, kjer se zanimajo za lepo petje.
Čas je hitro potekel in treba je bilo zaključiti, ker nekatere podružnice so imele več ur vožnje do svojih domov. Zopet se je bilo treba posloviti in s slovesom ■nno si na glas želele zopetno svidenje! Prav gotovo bodo vtisi od tega dne privabili še druge prihodnjič, ker zamuditi tako lepo prireditev je res škoda za vsakega, ki se količkaj zanima za lepe predstave in domače razvedrila, katerega nimamo vsak dan. Povabilo se je tudi vse, da se pripravijo za obisk na Ely, kjer se bo pričela redna konvencija v nedeljo 21. majnika, 19(il. Preden smo se razšli smo skupno zapeli poljudno pesem: “God bless America” in “Angelovo češčenje”. To zadnje skupno petje nam je napolnilo želje, da bi Dog daj vsem srečo priti zopet skupaj!
NAJSRČNEJŠA ZAHVALA
Ker se nisem vsakemu sproti zahvalila v dopisu, zato sem se namenila storiti v skupni zahvali, ker smo prav vsakemu posebej, ki je količkaj doprinesel k lepemu poteku dneva dolžne srčno zahvalo. Vsak doprinos je imel svoj pomen in vsi doprinosi povezani skupaj je bila tista sila, ki je pomagala k skupnemu lepemu izidu. Imele smo res mnogo dela in potov, toda vse to je že pozabljeno.
Lepa hvala Mrs. Marie Prisland, Mrs. Josephine Livek in Mrs. Anna Pachak za lepe pozdrave.
Dovolite, da navedem samo nekaj glavnih imen, ker je na mestu ob tem času: najprvo je na vrsti, da sem jim posebej zahvalim v vašem imenu: Co-rinne Leskovar, ter njeno spremstvo, soprog, otroci in mama, glavna tajnica Albina Novak.
Nato naše glavne odbornice, ki so povečale pomen dneva: Ann Podgoršek, Barbara Rosandich, Antonia Tanko. Potem prav vsem članicam zu-manjih podružnic in možem, ki ste
prišli v tako lepem številu. Našim domačim: Rev. Jershe, Mr. in Mrs. Vilko Kuntara, Mary Brank, Mary R. Lushene, Angeli Sterle ter vsem, ki so pekle potice, krofe, flancate, piškote, kejke in vsakovrstne dobrote ter vsem, ki so darovale v denarju za sestavine za pecivo, in ste prihranile veliko stroškov in gostje so bili postreženi z najboljšimi domačimi dobrotami. Dalje Mary in Pauline Primo-zich, Julie Elarsich, Mary R. Lushene, ki so nabrale razna darilca (favors) za vsakega gosta ter sploh vsem, ki so zvesto sodelovale in se žrtvovale za lep potek. Ponosni smo tudi na naše trgovce in obrtnike, ki so dali oglase v programsko knjižico od katere dobiček je lepo podprl blagajno. Isto smo ponosne na naše slavne goste kongresnika Blatnika, župana mesta in vse druge mestne in državne odbornike, ki so bili navzoči. Dal Bog mnogo blagoslova vsem talentiranim osebam, ki so nastopili na programu in s tem povečali našo prireditev in dali vsem navzočim prekrasen užitek.
Naj ljubi Bog blagoslovi prav vse z dobrini zdravjem in vso srečo, ki pod soncem sije. V naših srcih boste zapisani za vedno in mnogokrat se bomo spominjali na vas, ko bomo govorili o letošnjem Zvezinem dnevu. Pogrešale smo nekaj naših članic, ki so bile včasih tudi zelo aktivne kot sestro Rose Jerome in Ulasich, katerih je bolezen obdržala doma. Upamo, <ula boste kmalu zopet med nami.
Naša glavna tajnica Albina Novak je prinesla krasno daliko oblečeno v narodni noši, ki bo oddana na glavni seji v decembru. Iskrena hvala, Albina, ker se na nas vedno darežljivo spominjaš.
Kličem vam vsem skupaj: Bog plačaj v obilni meri za vse kar ste dobrega in lepega storili za Zvezin dan 11. sept. 1960!

..Št. 20, Joliet, III. — Po treh mesecih počitnic smo zopet imele sejo v navadnih prostorih. Tu smo si imele mnogo povedati kako smo preživele minule mesece. Bilo je kar lepo videti zopet naše članice kajti nekatere se nismo videle dalje časa in tako nas je ravno la seja skupaj pripeljala.
Spomnile smo se tudi prejšnje dolgoletne prijateljice naše podružnice Mrs. Lillian Kozek, katera je po dolgih letih podlegla avto nezgodi. Pokojna Lillian je nam bila vedno naklonjena in se jo spominjomo ko smo skupaj delale na Zveznih dnevih. Sklenilo se je se pošlje v Slovenijo za sveto mašo za njeno dušo. To nalogo je prevzela Vaša poročevalka. Tudi se pošlje sožalno kartico družini pokojne Na tem mestu ponovno izrekamo družini pokojne naše sožalje ob izgubo naše sosestre, dobre delavke, prejšnje gl. odbornice in odbornice kegljaške lige. Pokojni pa
naj sveti večna luč ih blag nam naj ostane njen spomin.
Tajnica je poslala kartico z željo za ozdravljenje sestri Mary Popek katera se je mudila v bolnišnici.
Dalje čestitke ob 25 letnici poroke Mr. in Mrs. Jakob Šemrov iz Kairview Ave. Mrs. Rose Šemrov je naša članica dolgo vrsto let. Želimo jima da bi še dolgo let obhajala obletnice v zdravju in zadovoljstvu. Darovala se je peta sv. masa ob sedmih dne 9. oktobra, ob navzočnosti sorodnikov.
Prihodnji mesec v Novembru bodo zopet priredila vsa ženska društva kard party za cerkev kot navadno vsako leto. Na tem mestu ste vse članice vabljene, da pridete v St. Joseph dvorano na N. Chicago cesti in odajte svoje dobitke naši tajnici, Frances Gaspich, ali pred igro ali kar v dvorani. Zapišite svoje ime in ime Zveze. Važno je, da vse sodelujete. Nekatere <la pomagate v dvorani, druge da pomagate s svojo navzočnostjo.
V	novembru bomo obhajali tudi dan Vseh svetih in nato vernih Duš dan. Pomislimo nekoliko; obudimo spomine na naše prijatelje in prijateljice katere so od zadnjega leta bile poklicane v večnost. Koliko novih grobov je nastalo na našem pokopališču, koliko naših članic ki so prej hodile na seje ni več med nami.
Postojmo malo, pri njihovih grobovih in molimo za njih, ne pozabimo na njih. Naj jim sveti večna luč!

Št. 24, La Salle, III1.— Naša okto-berska seja je bila lepo obiskana, ker je bila prva seja v tej sezoni. Leto gre k zatonu, zato moram že danes opozoriti vse, ki so zaostale ■r. asesmentom, da bi prišle in poravnale, da bom lahko uredila knjige pred koncem leta. Vse vabim na de-cembersko sejo, ker bomo imele Chris-mas gift izmenjavo daril. Vsaka naj prinese darilo v vrednosti 50i‘. Na tej seji bomo tudi izvolile odbor za prihodnje leto in po seji bomo imele malo prigrizka. Še enkrat prosim, da bi prišli v lepem številu, vsaj enkrat v letu se vendar lahko udeležite seje. Ker pred-konvenčna kampanja še traja do 31. decembra, vas prosim, da pripeljite vsaka po eno novo članico, da ne bo naša podr. zadnja. Potrudite se vsaj zadnji mesec.
Iskreno sožalje članici Emily Jordan in Juliji Kasprski nad izgubo ljube mame, Mrs. Katacki, ki je preminula v sept. Pokojni naj bo Bog dober plačnik in naj počiva v miru.
Vsem članicam, ki so pod zdravniško oskrbo želimo ljubega zdravja in iskren pozdrav vsem članicam SŽZ.

Št. 25, Cleveland, O. — Že dolgo ni bilo nobenega dopisa od naše podr. Sedaj ko so že tukaj hladni in mrzli jesenski dnevi, se bomo bolj držale doma in tudi imele več časa za našo pred-konvenčno kampanjo. Apeliram na vse naše članice, da bi se vse potrudile in vsaka pridobila vsaj eno novo članico in tako malo nadokla-dile kar nam smrt pobere. Dajte se potrudite tudi tiste manjše podr., kajti ko čitam poročila so številke skoro vedno ene in iste, toda vem, da imate hčerke in njihove otroke, kateri še niso vsi vpisani, ker naša Zveza je močna v premoženju, čeprav nam smrt krči članstvo.
Naš ohijski dan je res lepo uspel. Zjutraj smo imele sv. mašo pri Mariji Vnebovzeti, nato zajutrek z dobrimi krofi in štrudel in ob eni uri se je pričelo zborovanje. Zastopnice podr. so poročale kako si pomagajo do svoje ročne blagajne in kako delujejo na napredek Zveze in podr.
Tudi pri naši podr. pripravljamo nekaj za našo obletnico v nov. Ker nam je smrt letos pobrala kar 27 članic, zato sestre, dajmo se potruditi da jih bomo nadomestile in pripeljale nove članice.
Teta Štorklja se je oglasila pri naši dobri članici Mrs. Gnezda ter pustila lepega fantka, ki bo delal družbo svojemu bratcu in sta s tem postala Mr. in Mrs. Frank Swegel že drugič stara starša.
Pri Mr. in Mrs. James Slapnik je pa pustila zalo hčerko, ki bo delala družbo bratcu in sestrici.
Prosim vas tudi, da bi redno plačevale članarino, da vas ne bo potrebno opominjati. Gotovo pridete na nov. sejo, ker bo nekaj posebnega združena s proslavo ustanovitve podr. Hvala vsem članicam, ki prihajajo redno na seje in na svidenje v nov., Mary Otoničar, tajnica
Št. 32, Euclid, O. — Na oktoberski seji smo imele kar lepo udeležbo, kar je bilo v veselje odboru. Po dolgem času je bila med nami naša prejšnja blagajničarka Barbara Baron, kakor tudi Lillian Vehovec. Obe sta bili v bolnici zadnje poletje in upamo, da bosta sedaj bolj trdnega zdravja, kar želimo vsem našim bolnim.
Na prireditvi ohijskili podr. je bilo zelo lepo. Velika udeležba, krasen program za kar gre zahvala vsem, ki so se trudile, posebno hčerkam Ann Cook, ki so lepo nastopile. Veseli smo bili, da smo imeli našo gl. tajnico Albino Novak, zopet med nami, da je zopet poživila našo Zvezo.
Pri naši prejšnji tajnici Ann Cook so dobili luštno punčko da bo delala družbo dvema sestricama in bratcu. Stara mama Ana Godlar je sedaj kar zaposlena. Naše čestitke vsem.
Zopet smo izgubili eno članico. Dne
0.	sept. je preminula Mary Ulepic. Naše iskreno sožalje vsem preostalim. Sožalje tudi Mary Drenik ob izgubi
soproga, ki je umrl to poletje. Naj v miru počivajo.
Zelo se priporoča, da bi dobile kaj novih članic, da bi se podr. večala in ne obratno. Enako tudi prosimo, da bi rednto plačevale in tako tajnici lajšale skrbi.
Če imate kaj "sales tax stamps” se tudi priporočamo, da tako pride nekaj dobitkov v ročno blagajno, ker nimamo prireditev. V zadnjem času je prišlo $24.72 tem potem v blagajno in zahvala vsem, ki ste pripomogle. Po okt. seji smo obhajale 31 letnico ustanovitve podr. in rojstne dneve ter je bila kar luštno, saj so pridne članice prinesle dobrote, da smo se res gostile. Za darovane dobrote gre zahvala: Mary Drobnič, Theresa Potokar, Theresa Popovič, Mary Zele in Mary Gregorc in v denarju so darovale: Mary Črček, Agnes Jazbec, Karolina Pek, Mary Ercul, Antonia Karaba, Antonia Nemec in Frances Sokač. Dobitke so darovale:	Frances Sokač,
Karolina Pek, Mary Zele, Theresa Potokar, Molly Gregorc, in Frances Perme. Sreča pa je doletela: Frances Sokač, Mrs. Matko, Mrs. T. Potokar, Mrs. M. Okički, Mrs. J. Calta, Mrs. N. Potokar in Mrs. J. Gustinčič. Prisrčna hvala vsem, ki so pripomogle k lepemu večeru.
Ze sedaj vabimo na dec. sejo, ko bo zopet veselo, po seji bomo imele božičnico in pa obhajanje rojstnih dne-vov. Če katero veseli naj prinese dar v vrednosti $1.00 za izmenjavo daril.«
Blagajničarka Molly Gregorc je tudi te dni zelo zaposlena 15 okt. je bila svatba njenega edinega sina Tony-ja, ki je učitelj in prav fejst fant. Dne
22.	okt. pa se poroči Joan Marie Potokar vnukinja naše predsednice, Theresa Potokar. Vsem novo poročencem želimo sreče v novem stanu in naj jih Bog blagoslovi.
Sedaj pa želim vsem vesel Božič in na svidenje na seji.
F. Perme, poročevalka
Št. 40, Lorain, O. — Jesen je že tukaj, kako lepo je videti kako listje rumeni in spreminja barvo. Udeležile smo se drz. konvencije in banketa. Bilo nas 14 članic in vsaki je lahko žal, ki je zamudila to lepo prireditev. Odbornice so poročale kako njihove podr. napredujejo in tako je tudi naša preds. Frances Brešak. Predstavila je tudi članice Mary Plevnik in Frances Tomažič ter njene hčerke in vse druge, ki so se udeležile tega pomembnega dneva.
Dobrodošle kličemo novim članicam: Angeline Grayson, Helen Kozjan, Arlene Voytko in Rose Kragely. Dosedaj smo dobile 9 novih članic in upam, da jih bomo še vsaj toliko pred zaključkom kampanje dno 31. dec.
Vsem članicam, ki so v okt., ali ki bodo v nov. obhajale svoje rojstne dneve, kličemo Happy Birthday.
Na zadnji seji smo sklenile, da bo-
mo na dec. seji imele izmenjavo daril v vrednosti 50tf. Vabim vse članice, da se udeležite te seje, ker je važna in na njej bomo sklepali stvari za dobrobit podr. ter volili odbor za prihodnje leto. Vršila se bo dne 14. dec. ob 7:30 zvečer. Po seji bomo imele tudi prigrizek, na kar naj vsaka prinese kaj dobrega.
Na bolniško listi se nahajajo sledeče: Agnes Mejak, Mary Serazln, Josephine Eisehardt, Mary Jere, je roditeljica naše podr. in Angela Tomšič, ki je prestala operacijo. Naj vsem ljubi Bog povrne zdravje.
Zopet smo izgubile članico, Agnes Tomazin v starosti 73 let. Živela je pri svoji hčerki Angeline Grayson. Zapušča 3 hčerke in 3 sinove, 11 vnukov in brata. Naj počiva v miru preostalim izrekamo naše sožalje.
Za vedno je zatisnil svoje oči tudi George Ostragnaji, ki je oče naše nadzornice Mary Kurjan. Zapušča tudi še druge hčerke ter IG vnukov in 24 pra-vnukov. Družini naše iskreno sožalje.

Št. 42, Maple Hgts., Ohio — Na oktobrski seji smo se imele prav lepo. Tajnica je poročala o državni konvenciji, ki se je vršila 2. oktobra na Waterloo lld. Na tem zborovanju je bilo sklenjeno, da bodo skupne podružnice v Ohio imele razstavo mode in ročnih del ter tudi prodajale pecivo doma narejeno. Vsaka podružnica bo imela svojo stojnico zato se moramo tudi pri nas potruditi, da bomo kaj napravile, da se bomo tudi me postavile. Prosimo vse članice, da pridete na bodoče seje in zlasti na glavno sejo v decembru, da se bomo o tem pogovorile. Uspeh bo gotovo dosežen, če bomo vse sodelovale.
Mrs. Simončič je obljubila pripraviti večerjo za decembrsko sejo. Imele bomo tudi izmenjavo božičnih daril, vrednost en dolar.
V	septembrski Zarjo smo videle sliko kadeta Lieutenant Tom J. Tomsic, ki je končal študije v Nazareth Military Academy z najvišjo odliko. Sedaj pohaja v Boromeo Seminary v Wickliffe, Ohio. Čestitke Tom in želje, da boš tudi odslej se pridno učil in bil deležen še nadaljna odlikovanja. Čestitie mamici, Mrs. Frances Tomsic, ki prav pridno prihaja na naše seje.
Praznovale smo rojstne dneve in bile pogostene z raznovrstnimi dobrotami. Mrs. Tomsic je prinesla izvrsten češnjev štrudel, ter darovala door prize (perfume), katerega sem po sreči jaz dobila. A. Perko je prinesla okusne krofe, Frances Simončič fini kejlc, L. Perhne zelo dobre sendviče in Vida Franeticli piškote ln kavo. Imele smo se prav prijetno!

Št. 43, Milwaukee, Wis. — Sporočam, da v novembru ne bomo imele sestanka, ker ravno na dan 13. nov. ima St. John Evangelist fara svoj cerkveni bazar. Toda vse opozarjam in že sedaj vabim, da bi se v obilnem številu udeležile sestanka dne 11. decembra. To bo zelo važna seja in volitve odbora za bodoče leto. Ta dan se bo dvignila tudi srečna številka za E. Frying Pan. Torej ne pozabite tega dne, da se vsaj enkrat na leto pokažemo, da smo zavedne članice SŽZ. Št. 54, Warren, O. ■—Meseca nov. se spominjamo naših dragih pokojnih In vseh članic, ki so nas zapustile. Naj jim sveti večna luč.
Naša okt. seja je bila prav lepo obiskana. S. tajnica je poročala o konvenciji in ohijskem ter michiganskem dnevu v Clevelandu. Slišale smo dosti zanimivega kako delujejo pri drugih podr. S. Albina Novak je apelirala na vse za nove članice in je razdelila vsaki navzoči polo za novo članioo. Sklenile smo, da se tudi me udeležimo razstave, ki jo bodo priredile enkrat spomladi. Sklenile smo tudi, da bomo me začele šivati in prva seja za šivanje bo pri s. Jean Ponikvar na Beechwood St. Več o tem na prihodnjih sejah. Katero veseli in zna napraviti kakršnokoli ročno delo, naj se nam pridruži.
Od naše podr. smo se udeležile Dneva: Mary Waltko, Mary Ponikvar in podpisana ter naši soprogi. Z nami je prišla tudi preds. podr. št. 57 iz Niles, O., Frances Jerman. Vesela sem bila, ko sem se zopet sestala s tolikimi članicami in prijateljicami kot so: gl. tajnica Albina, Ella Starin,
H.	Tomažič, preds. Antonia Tanko, Mary Otoničar, Carol Traven, Mrs. Oblak in mnogo drugih, da bi vzelo preveč prostora jih naštevati. Ko smo prišle v dvorano so nas lepo pogostile s krofi, kavo in potico. Ob 5 uri smo se udeležile banketa in lepega programa. Predvsem naše čestitke mlademu dekletu, ki je bila kronana za kraljico. Le tako naprej dekleta, upam, da se drugo leto zopet vidimo, če bo božja volja. Hvala vsem za prijaznost in nepozabni dan, ki smo ga preživele.
Po naši seji smo se tudi lepo imele. Okrepčila so imele v oskrbi sestre: Mayme Sporich, Štefka Likačič. Poleg njih je prinesla darila za igro tudi Anna Pavlin,-—Vsem, ki boste obhajale rojstne dneve, želim iz vsega srca vse najboljše.
V	nov. bo obhajala svoj rojstni dan tudi gl. tajnica Albina Novak. Bog jo ohrani še mnogo let. Tudi naša vrla urednica je med tem časom praznovala svoj rojstni dan. Vse najboljše. (Prisrčne hvala! C.)
Vsem bolnim članicam želim ljubega zdravja. Pri nas je imela nesrečo v restavraciji, kjer dela Millie Habich, dobila je hude opekline. Bila je en teden v bolnici, hvala Bogu, da ni bilo se hujše. Št. 55, Girard, O. — Na sept. seji je bilo prav luštno. Bilo je veliko članic navzočih in postrežba je bila izvrstna. Naslednje so nam servirale prav okusni lunch: Mrs. Frances Juvančič, Mrs. Netti Juvančič, Mrs. Virginia Bestič, Mrs. Mary Škufca in Mrs. Julia Novosel. Hvala lepa za postrežbo in lep večer.
V	sept. so praznovale rojstne dneve: preds. Mrs. Theresa Lozier, Mrs. Frances Juvančič, Mrs. Anna Umeck in Mrs. Netti Juvančič. Še enkrat v imenu vseh članic vsem na mnoga leta.
Srečne so bile ta večer: Mrs. Theresa Severinski, ki je bila srečna že drugič s prvim dobitkom, dalje Mrs. Maria Cretnič in Mrs. Frances Juvančič.
Za božične praznike bomo imeli kar 3 slov. poroke v Girardu. Dne 27. dec. se bo poročila Miss Silvia Copick, 719 E. Kline St., hčerka pokojne Frances Čopek. Vzela bo Steve Fabian, 213 E. Liberty St. On dela v električni tovarni in Miss Copick je učiteljica ljudske šole. Dne 28. dec. se bo poročila Barbara Ann Brezovsek, 131 Townsend Ave., hčerka Mr. in Mrs. Anthony Brezovsek, ki bo vzela Frank Di Giacomo iz Youngstown. Miss Brezovsek je tudi učiteljica, a njen ženin je zavarovalninski agent, ki lastuje D & D Ins. Agency. Obe poroki bosta v cerkvi Sv. Roze.
Mr. in Mrs. Jacob Kristin sta tudi naznanila zaroko hčerke, Joan Mary z Ens. David Lee Twaddle, ki služi na ladji kot višji oficir, a Miss Kristin je zaposlena pri Camp Fire Girls.

Št. 64, Kansas City, Kans. — Tukaj v srcu Amerike imamo letos kar prijetno jesen. Naše seje so bile doslej bolj slabo obiskane, zato prosim, da bi bolj redno prihajale in pripeljale s seboj tudi nekaj novih članic.
17.	sept. sta se v naši cerkvi Sv. Družine poročila Agnes Ann Lipovac in Don Phelps iz župnije Kristusa Kralja. Prav lepo ženitovanje je bilo v Elks Club dovarni. Nevesta je hčerka Mr. in Mrs. Anthony Lipovac, njena mati je že 25 let naša prva nadzornica. Ženinovi starši pa so iz Ohio. Naše čestitke in obilo sreče mlademu paru v zakonu.
2.	okt. je kruta smrt pobrala mla-
dega moža 41 letnega Anthony Stam-fel, ki je podlegel leukomiji. Zapušča ženo, hčerko, mater, eno sestro in 2 brata. Eden brat je padel v Nemčiji v zadnji vojni. Koliko prijateljev je imel pokoini je pričal njegov pogreb, saj je bila cerkev napolnjena do zadnjega kotička. Žena, mati in sestra so naše dobre članice. Izrekam vsem preostalim iskreno sožalje!
Hudo je zbolela naša zabavna predsednica Lucy Orešnik, toda smo vesele, da ji gre na bolje. Njej in če je še katera druga bolana, želim ljubega zdravja, a naši dični organizaciji mnogo novih članic.
Mr. in Mrs. Joseph Franke z dvema otrokoma so se mudili na obisku pri materi od Mrs. Franke, ki je naša članica Mrs. Josephine Toplikar. O-menjeni Jos. Franke je Lieutenant Col. v US Army in je sedaj premeščen na novo postojanko v Hawaii. Želimo jim mnogo sreče v novi deželi.

Št. 66. Canon City, Colo. — Pozdravljene članice, zopet se oglašam. Na zadnji seji, ki se je vršila 18. sept. je bilo sklenjeno, da bo prih. seja dne 4. dec. ob 1 uri pop. Po seji bomo imele malo prigrizka. Za pripravo jedil ima tajnica v oskrbi. Daril se letos ne bomo nič izmenjavali. Članice ste naprošene, da se udeležite seje, ker bomo volile odbornice za prihodnje 3.

Ker smo ravno v jesenskem času, pa podam času primerno pesmico: “Hladna jesen že prihaja,—po dolin-cah slanca pada . . To ljubko pesmico smo včasih rade zapele, ko smo bile še mlade.
Kes mnogo veselja spomlad nam da, hitro nas do poletja pelja.
Leto izgine, jesen tudi mine, zima nam roko poda.
Tako je minila tudi naša mladost, se spremenila življenja sladkost. Vse bo minilo, vse se stemnilo;
prišla bo smrtna bridkost.

to pišem je lep jesenski dan, da me vleče v naravo, toda ko boste to či-tale se bo vreme najbrže že precej spremenilo. Kaj lepšega kot peljati se ven lz mesta v gozdiče, kjer listje spreminja barvo. Zrem in mislim kako lepo se spremenijo poprej ko odpadejo in se podajo v večnemu počitku. Še bolj globoko se zamislim, ko bi bile tudi naše duše prenovljene za božje kraljestvo, predno ležemo k večnemu počitku.
Na zadnji seji nas je bilo malo bolj pičlo. Sicer vam ne zamerim, če se ob nedeljah rajši pomudite v naravi, ako vam čas dopušča, saj nas bo itak kmalu stisnilo v gorke sobe. Kakor

Shujševalne kure:	Mnoge ženske
se ne morejo sprijazniti z debelostjo, ne samo zato, ker bi bile rade lepe in vitke, ampak tudi radi tega, ker debelost obremenjuje naše telo in njegove organe, posebno vpliva slabo na srce in ledvice, pa tudi drugače smo bolj podvrženi z debelostjo različnim boleznim kot n. pr. boleznim srca, visokemu krvnemu pritisku, sladkorni bolezni in drugim.
Poznamo 3 vrste debelosti:
1. Bolezenska, zaradi nepravega delovanja zlez.
2. Fiziološka, v določeni starosti (žene v klimakterju).
3. Navadna, zaradi preveč povžite ltrune
Pomenimo se tnalo o tretji, ki dale-ko presega ostali dve. Ženske so že po naravi podvržene debelosti, toda če zraven tega pojedo več hrane, kakor jo telo potrebuje za redno obratovanje, potem se odvisne zaloge nalagajo pod kožo in zamasčujejo organe in tako otežkočijo njihovo funkcijo.
Če hočemo shujšati moramo vedeti kakšno hrano, bomo uživali, da bomo
po navadi, smo po seji poklicale številke. Prav dobro so nas postregle z okusnim prigrizkom Anna in Rosi Svigel. Pale smo se, da bomo pridobile kakšen funt na teži. Res lepa vama hvala. Srečna je bila Julka Klo-mar.
Udeležile smo se banketa, ki so ga priredile ohijski podr. v Clevelandu. Naša preds. Jenny Mohorčič se je udeležila tudi konvencije. Podpreds. Frances Ulle nas je povabia, da nas nabaše v svoj auto, saj bilo nas je kar precej. Lepa hvala Frances. Druge so šle s soprogi in napolnile automobile. Ker se ženske rade izognemo kuhinje, saj se je videlo, ker je bila tako velika udelažba na večerji. Vesele sinp bile, da smo se zopet srečale z znanci in prijatelji.
Dosti lepega bi se lahko napisalo o naši dobri organizaciji, kaj vse dobrega doprinese, toda naš list je premajhen. Hvaležne bodimo našim ustanoviteljicam SŽZ in sedanj im odbornicam in članstvu, da tako lepo napreduje. Želim, da bi naša organizacija živela še pozne rodove. Sestre bodite pozdravljene,

Št. 71, Strabane, pa. _ 2. okt. sem se s sinom Billy-jem, njegovo soprogo in mojo sestro Antonia Senkinc udeležila Zvezinega dne v Clevelandu. Ob pol 11 smo se udeležile sv. mase za članice SŽZ Po maši smo šle v slov. doma na Waterloo, kjer smo imele zajtrek, nakar je Mrs. Tanko, drž.
to dosegli in pri vsem tem ne bomo škodovali samim sebi. Pri sestavi hrane moramo vedeti za njeno kalorično vrednost.
V	glavnem imamo 3 vrste hranljive snovi:
a. beljakovine, ki služijo za obnovo in graditev telesnic celic.
b. Ogljikovi hidrati (škrob, sladkor), ki pri izgorevanju sproščajo energijo.
c. Maščobe, sestavna snov celic, zaščita organov in rezerva telesne elergije. Poleg teh imamo še vitamine in rudnine, ali njih soli. Ti so prav tako važna hranila, vendar te ne redijo sama po sebi.
Glavna pravila shujšanja so:
1. Omejiti oz. zmanjšati dnevno uživanje tekočine in manjša uporabo soli.
2. Zmanjšati dnevno količino ogljikovih hidratov, dočim beljakovine ne zmanjšati, ampak celo
povečati.
3. Zmanjšanje maščob na minimum.
4. Zvišanje presnove hrane s fizi-
preds. pričela sejo, ki je bila dobro zastopana od ohijskih podr. Navzoča je bila tudi gl. tajnica Albina Novak. Vsa čast in hvala gre Mrs. Tanko, ki je aktivna in vestna delavka za Zvezo. Bog Vam daj zdravje in moč, da boste še naprej tako delale. Podružnice ste lahko vesele, da imate tako delavno predsednico, ker s skupnimi močmi se lahko napravi veliko dobrega. Mrs. Tanko velja moje iskreno sožalje ob veliki žalosti, ker je izgubila soproga.
(11. tajnica Mrs. Novak, je dala veliko dobrih priporočil kako pridobiti nove članice in kaj je v korist Zveze in podružnic in to tako lepo kot samo ona zna povedati. Izročila je vsaki po eno pristopno polo, da vpiše vsaj eno novo članico. Upamo, da. ji bomo to njeno prošnjo ustregle v tej kampanji. Darujmo ji vsaka po eno novo članico za njen rojstni dan, ki ga slavi v nov. Tega darila bo najbolj vesela.
Vesela sem, da sem se udeležila te konvencije, ker sem slišale mnogo odličnih priporočil od gl. tajnice, Mrs. Tanko ter od delegatlnj raznih podružnic.
Naša blagajničarka Mary Boštjančič in sestra Annie Strle sla se srečno vrnile nazaj iz obiska Floride.
V	bolnici se je nahajala Frances Drenik, ki se sedaj zdravi na domu. Dolan je mož sestre G. Tomsic ter obema želimo kar najhitrejšega okrevanja.
Naša podr. bo obhajala 25 letnico ustanovitve v marcu 1961.
čilim delom, kopanjem, masažo in daljšimi sprehodi. (Poleg tega so seveda posebna zdravilišča, in pa posebne vrste operacije).
Nekaj praktičnih nasvetov: Srednja velika ženska z normalno težo 140 lbs. potrebuje pri težkem delu 2900 kalorij dnevno. Če mesto teh zaužije samo 1850 kalorij, bo njena telesna teža padla za fi lbs. Pri tej kuri je možno opravljati normalno svoje poklicno delo, če le ni pretežko. Ženske, ki ne delajo, ali le malo delajo lahko zmanjšajo na 800 do 1500 kalorij dnevno, ne da bi pri tem škoda trpele.
Kaj naj jemo:
Zajtrk:	2 mali skodelice kave, ali
čaja brez sladkorja ali s saharinom, dovoljeno je tudi mleko, limonin sok,
1	trdo kuhano jajce, košček prepečenca, ali črnega kruha z malo surove zelenjave brez olja.
Malica dopoldne:	Kozarec	posne-
tega mleka. To lahko ponovimo tudi med kosilom in večerjo.
..Primer jedilnika za kosilo: 1. Čista goveja nemastna juha, v votli kuhan riž, dušeni telečji zrezek (■% funta), dušena špinača brez prežganja, zelena solata, ki mora biti ne-mastna.
Tako kosilo vsebuje približno 490 kalorij, (nadaljevane)

Št. 77, Pittsburgh, Pa. — Vabim članice na letno sejo, ki bo dne 8. dec. ob 8 uri zvečer v hrvatskem domu. Prosim, da se vse članice udeležite, ker bomo isti večer praznovale tudi božičnico in izmenjale darila, v vrednosti $1.00 ali vec.
Ker bo to zadnja seja v tem letu, imamo za rešiti več vaznih stvari. Bo tudi volitev novega odbora za prihodnje leto. Torej naj ne bo nobenega izgovora. Že to bo nekaj vredno, da bomo lahko ustno ena drugi voščili Vesele Božične praznike in Srečno Novo leto 19111. Lahko se prav po prijateljsko poveselimo, saj celo zdravniki trdijo, da smeh je dobro zdravilo.

Št. 84, New York, N.Y. Zopet poročam iz tega velikega mesta, kjer je sedaj izredno mnogo tujcev, ki zastopajo 100 narodov. Hog daj, da bi res kaj dobrega sklenili za trajni mir na svetu. Maršalu Titu se je tudi moralo dopasti tuk:'J, saj je nakupil 58 zabojev raznih amerikansklh proiz-
vodov in G prenosnih televizijskih aparatov.
Poletje je hitro poteklo brez hude vročine in sedaj imamo lepe jesenske dneve. Pri naši podr. je vse tiho, ker je več članic bolanih. Mrs. Martinčič je ze ‘1 mesece v bolniški postelji in njen mož je bolan že kakih 10 let. Hčerka Josephine in njen mož sta res zelo dobra, ker vsaki dan pomagata. Bog daj, da bi se kmalu pozdravila. Sestra Dora Holešek jim tudi dosti pomaga. Mrs. Crkovic pa streže letos že 3 mesece Mrs. Kecel, ki je že pred 15 leti izgubila vid in mož ji je lani umrl. Angela Čolnar je bila letos 3 mesece v Trzinu v Sloveniji. Mrs. Kukovec je bolša, da hodi kot Mrs. Ferk.
Augusta smo se peljale z busom v Greenwood Lake. Imele smo krasen dan, družba je bila vesela, dosti petja in šal ves dan. Mislim, da ni bilo nobenemu žal, da je šel. Vožnja na čolnu je bila jako prijetna, saj je jezero 10 milj dolgo in 5 široko. Mislile smo prirediti veselico, pa nismo mogle dobiti dvorane za oktober.— augustu smo imele priliko čast videti in prirediti surprise party za srebrno-mašnika p. Kalista Langerholca, ki so prišli iz Lemonta. Bili so zelo ganjeni ko *o videli polno cerkveno dvorano ljudi. Fr. Richard so napro-vili lep govor In tudi Fr. John. Res lep večer. 1. okt. pa smo videli Fr. •leroma iz So. Chicaga, ki so prišli poročiti svojega bratranca Charlie Archill. Svatba je bila zelo lepa. Fr. Jerome pa nam je tudi prinesel dobre novice od mojega vnuka Johna All-gaier, Jii je komaj 14 let star, toda se je odličil, da gre v Sacred Heart Mission seminary, samostan v Geneva, 111. On je edini sin moje hčerke Marion, ki ima tudi 4 hčerke. Rog ga usliši, da bi se dobro učil.
Vnukinja mojega pok. brata Franka Košaka, Janet Hempel, stara IS let, pa je šla za usmiljeno sestro.
Želh-.i se javno vsem zahvaliti za karte in sv. maše za mojo pok. sestro ki je bila samo 4 mesece manj kot 59 let redovnica. Gotovo je zaslužila zlato krono. Njena slika je bila v Ave Maria za 50 letnico.
l>ve članice sta izgubile svoje može: Mr. Gerbec je bolehal dolgo, doma je bil iz Kamnika na Gorenskem. Druga članica živi v N.J., zato ne vem za ime njenega soproga. Obema naše iskreno sožalje.
Pri nas imam več novih starih mamic: Mrs. Šubelj in Mrs. Peselj. Z možem sva bila v toplicah Sharon Springs, kjer je prav lepo. Obiskali smo okolico. V Miltoni smo bile na Koncharjevi farmi, ki je 1,000 akrov velika. Moderno strojno orodje vse lepo obdeluje. Šla sva tudi v Wilkes Rarre, Pa. kamor je moj mož prišel pred 50 leti. Rudniki so zaprti. Mladi so si dobili delo večinoma drugod.

Št. 88, Johnstown, Pa. — Bodite vse članice lepo pozdravljene. V teh jesenskih dneh, se nam zdi, da bo vsak čas pritisnila zima, toda sonček se vedno sije in. razganja oblake.
Drage članice, dobro bi bilo, če bi se sedaj malo opogumile za nove članice dokler je lepo vreme. Če dobite vsaka vsaj po eno novo, se bo naša podr. zelo povečala. Ko bo začelo snežiti, se ne bo nobeni ljubilo iti izpod strehe.
Teta štorkija je prinesla lepega, luštnega sinčka-prvorojenčlca Mr. in Mrs. Robert Terček. Starša sta zelo vesela. Iskrene čestitke.

Št. 93, Brooklyn, N.Y. — Poletje je kar hitro minulo in zopet je tukaj jesen in bliža se zima. Drage sestre zopet je tukaj čas, da se sestanemo in si povemo kaj dobrega bodisi v društvenem ali pa tudi družabnem o-ziru. Jaz bi imela mnogo zanimivega povedati, tudi bolehala sem 3 mesece in bila v Clevelandu, kjer sem se morala podati na operacijo v ML Sinai bolnico. Zgodilo se mi je enkrat, da sem šla na pregled v bolnico v Clevelandu in je bila toliko vrat, da nisem vedela, katera so prava za izhod. Pa pride prijazen gospod in me vpraša v angleščini kam želim iti in ko mu povem, da na bus na St. Clair, me vpraša, če sem Slovenka in ko mu potrdim, me vpraša, če poznan Albino Novak; seveda, sem mu rekla, ona je velika žena v vseh ozirih in gl. tajnica SŽZ, nakar gospod pravi “ona je moja sestra”. Kako začudena sem bila in vesela, da človek naleti na odličnega Slovenca vsepov-sodi. Bil je l.o Fred Križman, odvetnik bolnice in gotovo je lahko Križmanova mama ponosna na njega. Sedaj želim gl. tajnici Albini vesel rojstni dan in Mrs. Leskovar. Še na mnoga leta obema tudi veliko sreče in zdravja.
Drage sestre potrudimo se za nove članice, da ne bomo lezle nazaj, ampak naprej. Pozdravljene gl. odbornice in cela organizacija, posebno vse pri št. 93.

sedaj imamo zelo lepo vreme. Bodimo hvaležne na Zahvalni dan za vse kar smo prejeli in bomo imeli v tem letu. Zima se bliža in tudi dec. glavna seja v letu je blizu. Prosim, da bi se sploh vse udeležile te glavne seje pri sosestri P. Brecel, 276 Addison Ave. Izvoliti si boste morale novo blagajničarko, ker jaz ne bi mogla več sprejeti, ker sem malo zaposlena in zelo rada potujem. Lansko leto dec. sem šla obiskati brata v Južno Ameriko. Bila sem v Mendozi in Buenos Aires, toda nič lepega nimam za popisati, edino parke imajo zelo lepe. Argentina se mi sploh ne dopade. Marca sem se zopet vrnila in najbolj sem vesela v naši Ameriki. Veliko sem bila po svetu, toda samo ena je Amerika (North).
Na naših sejah imamo veliko zabave in veselja, zato nas je vsakokrat lepo število na seji, toda za glavno sejo bi rada videla prav vse, da bomo zapele tisto: Pojd’mo na Štajersko in Na planincah. . .Lepe pozdrave vsem sosestram, posebno pri št. 99. Ker je že tako blizu, želim vsem vesele božnične praznike in blagoslovljeno Novo leto 19G1.

6.	okt. smo glasovale, da damo $25. dol. iz blagajne za dom za stare ljudi pri slov. šolskih sestrah v Lemontu,
111., doma Sv. Jožefa,—Sklenjeno je bilo tudi, da se bo vršil Bake Sale
23.	nov. tik pred zahvalnim dnevom in sicer v korist blagajne. Vse članice ste vljudno prošene, da vsaka kaj speče, ali napravi rezance.
Dalje poročam, da sem 13. sept. šla na obisk sina, ki služi v Navy. On je učitelj električnih ved na Treasure Island v San Francisco in ob tej priliki sem obiskala tudi dobro poznano delavno članico Zveze Barbaro Kramer. Bila je zelo vesela obiska, ker se nisve videle črez 20 let. Je bolj pri slabem zdravju. Obljubila mi je, da nas bo prišla obiskati to zimo v Fontano in se tako seznanila z našimi članicami. Po mestu me je vozil prijatelj Rudi Troja, ki mi je pokazal tudi Slovenski Dom na Kranjskem hribu. Tam imajo čitalnico, in veliko dvorano ter je krasni razgled po mestu. Njegova soproga je tudi članica Zveze. V soboto zvečer smo se odpeljali v Mark Hopkins Hotel, ki je največji v mestu in iz vrha je divni razgled po mestu, ki je razsvetljeno z milijoni luči. V nedeljo smo se peljali v slovensko cerkev, kjer sem se spoznala z Father Trunkom, ki je star 90 let in še vsaki dan mašuje. On je znan po svojih spisih; napisal je več knjig in je veliki rodoljub. 19. sept. sem se vrnila domov sicer utrujena, toda vesela, da sem obiskala sina in njegovega sina, bil je tudi poročen in smo se skupaj slikali 4 rodovi. Nisem si nikoli mislila, da bom dočakala tako visoko starost. Lepa hvala vsem prijateljem, posebno Rudi Troja in družini za postrežbo.

GLASBENA MATICA\S TWENTIETH ANNIVERSARY
On Sunday, Nov. 6th at 3:30 P.M., the Glasbena Matica singing society will celebrate its 20th anniversary by staging the opera “La Traviata” under the direction of Anton Schubel. It will take place at the S.N.D. on St. Clair Ave. and is sure to be a hit as have been all of Matica’s other operatic productions.
Curing its years of existence, Glasbena Matica has presented concerts in Chicago, 111., Milwaukee, Wis., and Toledo. Ohio. It has appeared several times in numerous civic programs, benefit performances and Nationality nights and has appeared several times on TV.
Glasbena Matica, although being an amateur group composed of local talent, always strives to present musical productions of high quality.
La Traviata will be another rich experience for Cleveland opera-lovers and a fitting celebration of the 20tli anniversary. We urge all to attend.

Hi, Boys and Girls!
Oct. 2nd, our State Convention affair, was a very busy day for the St. Clair Drill Team. We were to escort the Queen to her throne, but due to the large attendance at the banquet, we helped to serve instead. We worked as a group at this, too, because Mrs. Sietz, “my mother”, had pretty serving aprons all ready for us to wear. This helped to identify us as the junior group. Helping to serve were: Betty Jevec, Dorothy and Aggi«i Arko, Carol Vokas, Carol Primožič, Rosemarie Chinnici and myself. We certainly worked hard, but had a lot of fun doing it.
The younger group of our drill team did a good job, too. Kathy and Carol Cooke, (no. 32) were on the program They each did a baton twirling exhibit. The Cooke girls have won many trophies in this, and it was a treat to watch them handle their batons so expertly. Margie Rebol and Linda Kikel (no. 25) did a tap dance; they looked just darling in their new penguin costumes (and can they dance!): Donna Dekleva (no 50) surprised us all by singing a duet with her mother, and mind you, this was a Slovenian song! Nancy Beck (no. 50) played a solo on the piano. Her number was "Deep Purple” and there were quite a lot of notes to follow, believe me. Her fingers just flew along, like they were magic. She also accompanied the tap dancers.

Juniors working very hard to become Queen of our State Convention. II was a ciose tie; results, Joanie Arko, captain of the St. Clair Drill team
was chosen queen and Mary Sustar followed as the Euclid Princess. Both received very beautiful gifts. We are (Continued on cover)

Juniors—Hello! Hope you all enjoyed yourselves on Halloween! Did you make any preparations for Thanksgiving yet? Well, if you are having a party, why don’t you invite some friends whom you may be able to tell about S.W.U. and maybe get them to enroll. It’s an idea!
In November, we’ll remember the holydays dedicated to the Poor Souls and All Saints. Following this is the great Presidential election on Nov. 8th, Armistice Day, and last of all, Thanksgiving. Hope you all have a lot to be thankful for! Don’t forget to pray, ask the good Lord for continued good health and to guide you to do your best in school and at home . . . to always help others who are old, poor and helpless.
How’s our Pen Pal writing coming along? Do write and you’ll find a Pal, I’m sure. If you don’t try, no one will know you and what you are doing. Let’s all try—the hard part is starting—so, take pen in hand and let’s go! So long, for now. Happy Holidays!	Christine

Our Supreme Secretary Albina Novak, our honored guest, really surprised me—with the presentation of a beautiful light blue cowhide leather wallet and a Speidel identification bracelet, gifts from the S.WU. and the Editor of Zarja—The Dawn, because of my writing in Zarja every month.
So,	c’mon guys, maybe at your next convention you too, may receive beautiful gifts—just for your interest and activity in the S.W.U. And, my sincere thanks to the organization and the Editor for remembering me in this wonderful way.
It wouldn’t be fair to end my letter without a word of praise and thanks to the mothers of our junior group. It’s really through their efforts that we had a grand program. Thank God for our mothers who encourage us to go along with their plans. It’s true, of course, that at times the juniors sort of hesitate to get going, but, with the ardent help of mothers who care to keep our Slovenian heritage alive,
we are proud to work along.
Ask your mother to help you get started—ask your State President and she will be very happy to give you all the help you need and any project you are interested in.
November is Thanksgiving time so, I’ll go along with the turkey and say, Gobble, gobble, gobble—

Joanie Arko, S.W.U. State Convention Queen of 1960, is the captain of the St. Vitus Drill Team. She is 16 years old and the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Arko. Her grandparents are the well-known Rutars of Norwood Road. Joanie’s goal in life is to be an expert secretary. She attended St. Vitus Elementary School and is now a junior at Notre Dame Academy. She is planning on continuing her education at Penn College later on. At present, Joanie works as a part time helper at the Anzlovar Dept. Store and is a member, along with her mother, of branch 50.

This summer my parents, my brother Robert and I visited with my sister Mary and her family in Houghton, Michigan. While there, my mother and I enrolled my sister's and brother-in-law’s new baby Maureen, into the Slovenian Women's Union, it surely would be nice if other little girls would do the same where there are babies in the family. Don’t you think so?
Besides going to school my tap dancing and ballet classes started again. This will be my third year of dancing. Last week I joined the Brownies' group (Girl Scouts) which
1	know 1 am going to enjoy also.

Mary Sustar, our Euclid Princess of Branch 14, is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Anton Sustar of Lindbergh Ave , Euclid. She is a very ambitious girl and has written a few articles for our junior page. She attends the Urea-line Academy and plays the organ exceedingly well. She also works as a jewelry saleslady on Saturdays and is a volunteer worker at the Providence Heights Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes on Chardon Rd. on Sundays. She drives a car like an expert and speaks the Slovenian language fluently. Mary is 16 years old, too, and is a very active member of branch
14,	as is her mother.
Our heartfelt wishes that life will be very good to these two lovely S.W.U. juniors.
