| 10 | GEODETSKI VESTNIK | 65/1 | UVODNIK | EDITORIAL Gregor Klemenčič predsednik Zveze geodetov Slovenije | president of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia V l ETU 2021 IN THE yEAR 2021 Drage kolegice, spoštovani kolegi geodeti. Globoko smo že zakorakali v leto 2021 in prva številka letošnjega Geodetskega vestnika spet prinaša veliko zanimivih strokovnih člankov, strokovnih razprav in novic. Dear Colleagues, The year 2021 is well underway. The first issue of Geodetski vestnik again brings an array of interesting aca- demic papers, professional discussions, and news. I am positive that all surveyors fully recognise the immense importance of our professional journal, as it undeniably and substantially contributes to the development of the surveying profession, thus providing a strong link with all surveyors. I am sure that it is also well recognised in related engineering professions; moreover, it is on us, surveyors, for it to become broadly appreciated in the future. More than a year has passed since the COVID-19 epidemic began to dominate our lives. Overnight, society as a whole had to adapt to changed circumstances. The epidemic has also left a deep mark on the surveying profession, and changing times have brought new challenges. Everybody in the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia has been doing their best to remain active despite the situation, and we continue to prepare for criti- cal professional challenges and specific projects in the coming years. One key activity is the preparation of the Surveying Strategy, which will be an important strategic document and will encompass all the areas of expertise in land surveying. The working group for the preparation of the strategy has already begun to operate and plans to open their draft document up for wide public discussion. We wish to enable every surveyor to contribute and for the strategy to be a living document that will facilitate annual evaluations on the basis of set goals. At the moment, the preparation of Slovenia’s Recovery and Resilience Plan is taking place; this document is necessary to access €5.2 billion. A large proportion of these funds will be allocated to themes connected with digitalisation, sustainability, and green transition. All these fields represent a great opportunity for the survey- ing profession, for us to unlock all our development potentials and channel our knowledge into new business opportunities. The data on land and the state of the environment, and the digital transformation of all the relevant data are the key aspects of the support for decision-making for the management of space and the environment. This is why the support of land surveying will be critical for the implementation of all measures foreseen in the Recovery and Resilience Plan. The Executive Committee of the Association of Surveyors of Slovenia has adopted the decision to organise, despite developments concerning the epidemic, the 49th Surveyors’ Day in the same fashion as last year: on-line. It will take place in September and is hosted by the Society of Surveyors from the Primorska Region this year. The Programme Committee is already working on a set of relevant lectures, so allow me to invite you to attend this year’s Surveyors ’ Day and thus express your appreciation for their efforts and the surveying profession as a whole. At the time of writing this editorial, we were stunned by the news that our dear Professor Milan Naprudnik, PhD, had passed away. A true Surveyor, with a capital ‘S’, he has left a distinctive mark and trace in land | 12 | GEODETSKI VESTNIK | 65/1 | UVODNIK | EDITORIAL surveying. A truly great man, a man that sets an inspiring example in the profession, and a wonderful person, as he was not only a surveyor and a professor but also a truly great Man; he was an inspiration to all of us and always worthy of our admiration. Rest peacefully in the Slovene soil that you cherished and respected all your life, dear Milan, and thank you for everything.
