MAGINE, if the Holy Family knocked at your door today, would you say “No” or “GO”, or invite them in to stay? Would you ask their religion, nationality or race, before you make them welcome, and tried to make a place? Most of us at Christmastime go back

our childhood. We remember the
R In	spirit of anticipation and eagerness that
▼I II	was ours. Something special does hap-
pen to everyone at this time of the year:	Adults become children and
children become angels, the rich look for someone to share their bounties with and the poor encouraged by the humble beginning of our Lord, look to the star of Bethlehem and hope for a brighter future.
Christmas was no time to be alone or forgotten. We like to remember the kind of uncomplicated happiness which so many of us know only as little children and which is somehow lost in the hustle and bustle of today’s commercialized Christmas.
But It needn’t be	for you.	You can open the	door of
your heart	to	keep	Christ in Christmas.	You	can re-
capture some of that childlike spirit, coupled with a more mature appreciation of your faith. The Christmas Story withstands centuries, although it sometimes takes most of our lifetime to fully realize the simplicity of its meaning. And without this childlike understanding it is difficult for us to imagine the plight, feelings, needs, and wants of our fellow men.
But since Christmas belongs to all men, regardless of their place in our society, what better time than the Christmas season can we select to “make room” in our hearts for	all	nationalities,	creeds and	races	in the
Brotherhood of Peace? Let each of us help each other to keep our minds and the door to our hearts open to Christ as well as “to the least of His brethren”—remembering that	it	was	He who	showed us	the way over
1900	years ago.
As we select our greeting cards and prepare our gift list, let us not forget the One Who made this season possible—on His Birthday, give thanks in a tangible and

Library Board Fetes Mrs. Prisland

Mrs. John Prisland, 1034 Dillingham Ave., was honored Monday, Sept. 23rd by members of the board of trustees of the Mead Pubilc Library at a dinner at Hoffmann’s at River-dale on the occasion of her retirement from the library board after nearly 21 years of service, including several terms as vice president of the board.
After the dinner each member of the board, and the director of the library, paid tribute to Mrs. Prisland and spoke of their appreciation for the fine work she has done for the library during her years of service.
Mrs. Anton Knaus Jr. spoke of Mrs. Prisland’s other accomplishments, noting that in 190C she came from Europe to Sheboygan where she married and raised a family of three.
Mrs. Prisland is a charter member of Ss. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church. In 1913 she helped to organize the Christian Mother’s Organization, the Queen of May Society No. 157 KSKJ in 1915 and is founder of the Slovenian Women’s Union in 1926. Branch No. 1 of the Union is in Sheboygan, while there are now 106 branches in 14 states with a membership of 13,000.
In 1939, Mrs. Prisland was decorated by the former King Peter of Yugoslavia with the Cross of St. Sava for her work among Slovenian women. In 1946 she received an A-merican National Red Cross Citation signed by President Truman for her work during World War II. Her latest achievement is the editing and revision of the Slovenian Women’s Union Cookbook “Women’s Glory — The Kitchen”.
Mrs. Prisland is past member of the Girl Scout Council and former treasurer of the Sheboygan County Welfare Council.
At the conclusion of the ceremony Mrs. Prisland was presented by Homer C. Denison, vice president of the library board, with an illuminated copy of a resolution of appreciation adopted by the library board.
The resolution noted that Mrs. Prisland has been a “devoted, faithful, and hardworking member” of the Mead Library Board for 21 years and “her human understanding and her close personal relations with the staff and the board members have been a particular help to the Mead Library and to Sheboygan.”
Mrs. Prisland responded by saying that the years she had served on the library board had been proud years and that the library would always remain close to her heart.
ACTIVITIES
No. 1, Sheboygan, Wis. — Members please note that our annual meeting will be held on the third Sunday in December, the 15th! Let’s have a nice attendance for this annual meeting. Each member is asked to bring a 50c gift for the Christmas exchange party.

Miss Gloria Jean Novak
A young lady who has lived in an atmosphere of S.W.U. since birth is Miss Gloria Jean Novak, the daughter of Mrs. Albina Novak, Supreme Secretary and sister of editor Corinne Leskovar. Gloria Jean is now the happy bride-to-be of Mr. Raymond H. Nusko, Jr., and their approaching marriage will be January 18, 1964 at St. Stephen's Church in Chicago, III.
Heartiest felicitations to Gloria and Ray for a very, very happy lifetime together!
No. 2, Chicago, III. The officers wish to thank all the many loyal members and friends who attended our Nov, Penny Social and made it such a success. The proceeds will be put into the fund for our Juveniles’ Christmas Party, Dec. 15th at 2 p. m. The program will begin promptly at
2	so that Santa Claus can come and distribute gifts and refreshments will be served. St. Stephen’s Lower Hall is the place.
We will observe the 37th Anniversary since the founding of the S.W.U. at a special Holy Mass on that morning, Dec. 15th for all the living and deceased members of our branch and the Union. God bless all our pioneer members and staunch officers who worked for the progress of the organization all these years!
Our deepest sympathy to Auditor, Sophie Petrovič and her daughters who mourn the loss of their husband and father, John Petrovič. He passed away suddenly — suffering a heart attack. Mr. Petrovič was a long standing businessman in the community. May he rest in peace.
Yearly meeting for the branch is scheduled for Dec. 12th. We hope that many members who usually absent themselves will use this opportunity to reacquaint themselves with the branch and attend the meeting. You will please the officers very much if you are there to help discuss the program for the year 1964 which includes the National Convention of S.W.U. in Chicago, May 17, 1964.

Mrs. Joseph Prince wish to thank their sons, daughter and in-laws and all their relatives and friends who came from far and near, that helped them celebrate their Golden Wedding Anniversary on Sept. 29, 1963. No. 13, San Francisco, Calif. — Our
Financial Secretary, Ann Stich gained a son on May 26th, 1963 with the marriage of her daughter, Judith. At the Church of Nativity with Father Vital Vodušek as pastor, Judith and Peter Wiener became one. John Stich was honored to walk his daughter down the aisle. Junior member, Jacklyn honored her sister as one of the bridesmaids; in fact, Jackie was a junior bridesmaid. Four attendants, a flower girl and ring bearer constituted the wedding party. They were dressed in lilac carrying purple flowers. Reception was at the Slovenian Hall and was attended by all the friends of the family. Judith’s grandmother and one of our first officers, Barbara Nemanich who was there to enjoy a happy time with her wonderful family. The happiness was two-fold because Barbara celebrated her birthday on November 11, born in 1882. Nice to reach the age of 81 and still enjoy all the things about you. Nice going, Barbara.

a change? We'd love to have you Eastern gals come out to see Disneyland, Hollywood, our Golden Gate Drive over our three bridges, and really see a Western sunset which is one of the most beautiful things to behold. Come ride on our cable cars; see the steep hills and see our Fisherman’s Wharf. It would be a tour your family and you would long remember. How about it, you gals out East! Come and see what we have to offer in scenic value. See California as it should be seen.
At this reporting we find Bara Kramer still giving it all she has. She has her up and down days but this gal just won't give up and just goes right on with her daily chores and just won’t complain. Good going, Bara! Happy birthday Dec. 13th!
Now that we come to the end of the year 19G3 there is much to desire. Seems as if the years get shorter and shorter because so much less seems to be accomplished. Each year brings its happiness and its sorrows but as we get older it seems there just aren’t enough days for all that we plan. Do you find this to be true, too? Well if you do then you can join my club of the "fast time passers”. May you all enjoy a happy holiday season. We all hope Santa will be really generous and fill your stockings to the fullest. God be with you in the season of “Peace on Earth — Good Will Toward Men.” Greet your neighbors and friends with a smile. It helps to make the Holidays happy for all.

HAPPY NEWLYWEDS

Minn., was enjoyed by many of our members who attended the dinner put on by the St. Francis Lodge as Ann came with her husband who are visiting the West Coast. It was such a pleasure to see Ann once again as it was our honor to have been adopted by the Minnesota group while at the convention in Cleveland. Ann made me feel like a true Min-neaotoan. There are many members of our family still residing in Minnesota so we feel a real love for the folks from there. Hope you had a nice time visiting your son, Ann; we wish your visit could have been a permanent one, because we here at Branch No. 13 could use your smtling face and swell sense of humor. Come back soon, gal!

IN SYMPATHY
On September 26, 1903, Mr. Herbert E. Nimmer, 63, suddenly passed away at home in Elm Grove, Wisconsin. Surviving him are his wife, Josephine, charter member of branch No. 17; his daughters, Nancy and Joan, and mother-in-law, Josephine Schlosar, founder and for many years president of branch 17, in West Allis.
Mr. Nimmer was Chairman of the Board of Monarch Supply Co., an auto supply chain store with 12 branches in Wisconsin.
He was Director of the West Allis State Bank and founder and former president of Elm Grove Savings and Loan Association.
Mr. Nimmer was respected and beloved by all who knew him because of his gentleness, friendliness and charitable disposition. His main charities were directed towards the Milwaukee Alverno College for Girls and the Shrine hospitals for crippled children. To our Scholarship Fund, his wife Josephine donated a generous sum in his memory.
His funeral exemplified the esteem Mr. Nimmer enjoyed in life. Over one hundred floral pieces decorated his bier, besides offerings for Masses and donations to his favorite charities.
To his wife, Josephine, his daughters and other relatives and friends we express our sincere sympathy. May he rest in peace and may the good Lord award him for his good deeds on earth.

Supreme President’s Message
The Pre-Convention Campaign is on! How are we all progressing 111 getting new members? December is the month when we celebrate the anniversary of Zveza. Wouldn’t it be nice to enroll a new member for the occasion? This is also the month of Christ’s birth and we all celebrate the bringing of gifts to the Christ Child by the Three Kings. Why not give Zveza a nice gift by bringing in a new member and in doing so, you will help to fill our quota.
Cookbooks are now available. Branches that wish to have them can contact me and I shall see to It that you get your supply immediately. Also members and friends may send in their orders for gift giving this Christmas! Woman’s Glory—The Kitchen has been serving the homemakers of America for a number of years! The Bazaar held 011 Oct. 13th by the combined Cleveland branches was very successful in every way! Mrs. Mary Otoničar and her staff started early in the morning to bake and cook so that they were prepared to feed the hungry crowds that gathered throughout the day. The food was delicious and those good doughnuts were so in demand, it was nearly impossible to supply all that wished to have them. The booth was loaded with delicious baked goods of all varieties and by G o’clock everything was gone.
The two teen-agers, Bernice Vidmar and Theresa Komat demonstrated how to make the Wowie Cake (sometimes called Crazy Cake) and they were
a sensation! Everything is mixed right in the pan it’s baked in! They also made the Lemon-Jello Cake and the audience enjoyed watching these two youngsters very much.

Demonstrating the lemon and apple strudel was Mrs. Vida Furlan of Br. 50. She is a just recently enrolled member — she and her two sons! She surely is a credit to us! She showed the techniques of rolling up the strudel dough with the proper stretching, etc. On the picture, she is shown holding it with her hands. She is a genious at this and all eyes were upon her, especially the menfolk. It took a lot of courage to be able to demonstrate this successfully before such a large audience. All of us were so happy to have such talent-

ed demonstrators as Mrs. Furlan and the two young members!
Branches who took part in this bazaar were the following: Nos. 10, 25, 41, 50, and 73. Juvenile members of the combined branches also had their own booth so they acquired a Nttl« fund to help pay for their uniforms which are very attractive altho, inexpensive.
At -I p. m„ the juvenile baton twirlers .under the capable instruction of Mrs. Ernestine Jevec, performed and drilled beautifully. We are very proud of them!
The Marie Prisland Cadets who were organized 30 years ago, also put on a surprise drill for the crowds and they really went over big! They had only two practices but did a very good job of it! Everyone really enjoyed seeing the older group perform. Captain was Frances Sietz and whatever she tackles goes over big! Thanks to her for doing such a good job! Hope
Strudel Demonstrator, Mrs. Vida Furlan of Geneva, Ohio (Br. 50^
Mrs Furlan, one of the best strudel makers we have, is the daughter of Rosie Lapp whom everyone in Cleveland knows for her excellent kitchen. Here are a few scenes of Vida making her famous recipe for Lemon Strudel. Picture 1: Mixing the dough; 2: Stretching the dough paper thin over her hands; 3: Finishing the stretching 011 the table. Then, she spreads the lemon mixture over the dough and rolls it up. While demonstrating this, Vitla captured the attention of everyone in the audience and not a sound was heard nor did an eye wander from the table! Vida is a wizard at this technique; and, you should just taste the finished product!

The beautiful style show was on next. Turnout of dressmakers and models was overwhelming. Such beautiful outfits and the girls modeling were adorable. There were juniors, teen-agers, young mothers and matrons. Following are the top dressmakers named at the style show:
Domestic Class:	1.	prize:	Agnes
Koporc of Br. 25. She made and modeled a sheath dress with jacket and hat to match in orchid color. The hat was made of crinoline and 3 different sizes of tupperware bowls which was the most ingenious idea! 2nd prize went to Sylvana Brentar of Br. 50. She made and modeled a black suit. 3rd prize went to Mrs. Frances Nemanich of Br. 25. She wore a light blue sheath dress which she made.
Professional Class: 1st prize to Ann Cadiz, dressmaker; it was modeled by yours truly and was a blue wool dress. 2nd prize: Marie Beck, made by Marie and modeled by Sylvana Brentar — a white formal gown.

There were seven models from Ann’s Knit Shop who modeled beautiful knitted outfits made by themselves and instructed by Ann Krajc who owns the shop and is a member of Br. 25. Models were: Ceil Skander, Betty Heckman, Cheryl Skander, Liz Krajc and Millie Vidmar.
Commentator for the style show was Jean JaUsic Drobnich who was marvelous and knew her subject very well. Judges were Ann Zulic and Ann
Corsic, the latter is instructress for the city of Cleveland. Tillie Ramos sang and she is a member of Br. 50 and the owner of Ramos Beauty Shop.
As an added attraction, the Cooke sisters from Br. 32, Euclid, performed a baton twirling act before the style show began. To all whom I have mentioned in this report and all other members who helped in any way to make this bazaar a successful one, in behalf of the combined branches of Cleveland, THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR KIND SERVICES!

SLOVENIAN LEADER MOURNED
On July 2,	1963, Clevelanders
heard with sadness that Mr. Matt F. Intihar had passed away after a brief illness. He was 75 years of age.
Mr. Intihar was best known as a fraternalist and civic leader, having been the president of the Slovenian Men’s Union and officer of a number Df Slovenian societies. He was also a member of the board of trustees of the Yugoslav Cultural Gardens and president of the Slovenian Democratic Club of Euclid which he organized.
His line of business as an insurance agent brought him in contact with many people who respected him and thought highly of him. He was a very conscientious Catholic, active in St. Christine’s parish in Euclid.
Mr. Intihar was also guest at many of the events of the Slovenian Women’s Union in the Cleveland—Euclid area and pioneered the fraternal movement especially with the Slovenian Men’s Union which closely resembles the S.W.U. policy. His bereaved widow, Ann, is a member of the branch in Euclid. He is also survived by two daughters, Mrs. Mari-ann Juhasz and Mrs. Lee J. Bonner, a brother, Anthony, a sister, Mrs. Margaret Rožance and two grandchildren. Our deepest sympathy. L.
No. 14, Euclid, O. — in the last issue of the Dawn, we neglected to complete all the details in connection with the Golden wedding anni-versay of Mr. and Mrs. Leopold Troha, of 22031 Miller Ave., Euclid, Ohio. The Troha’s are blessed with ten children, two of whom are nuns. One is Sister M. Catherine of Siena at St. Mary Magdalene School, of Wickliffe, Ohio and the other Sister M. Rosalia. Ursuline Educational Center, Pepper Pike, Ohio. Also there are 30 grandchildren.
September and October good time donations were made by Mary Kausek, Rose Picely, Rose Klemenčič, Rose Rupert and Mary Simončič.
Recently, the stork left bundles at two of our members’ homes. Mrs. Diane Bergant, nee Smrekar, with an 8 pound 4 ounces girl, delivered Sept. 11th, 1963, which makes it two for this family. The other was Mrs. Lillian Mihelich, nee Rožance, a girl, which makes it number 7 for the Mihelichs. Congratulations.
Mrs. Caroline Turk, Mother of the Year, and husband, Frank, left for a two week vacation to Miami, Fla. Frank, incidentally, is now recuperating after a successful operation.
Mrs. Jennie Jaksetic passed away October 24th, 19C3, death being sudden. A brother, Frank Poje, of Jugoslavia, survives her. Let us remember her in our prayers.

Mr. and Mrs. I.ouis Srpan, of Windsor, O., who formerly resided at 17822 Marcella Rd., Cleveland, O., celebrated their fiOth wedding anniversary October 5th. They were married in St. Vitus Church in 1903. We wish them many more anniversaries.

No. 20. — Joliet, III. — Our condolences to our secretary, Frances Gaspich and family who lost her sister, Mayme. She was born in Joliet on Feb. 9,
1901	and died at the age of 62. Born and raised here, she attended St. Joseph’s school and for many years worked in Chicago. She was laid to rest next to her father and brother. She is also survived by her mother, and besides Frances, three more sisters and three brothers survive her. One sister and a brother, Dr. Gaspich, reside in California for a number of years. May she rest in peace!
Our congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. F. E. Bostanche of Plainfield who have a son; he is a grandson of our sergeant-of-arms, Mrs. Theresa Muhich. Also, congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Walter A. Lustik of Russel St., who also are the proud parents of a son.
Our secretary has mailed cards for recovery to Mrs. Jean Tezak and to others at the homes and hospital,
if she is informed about their illness.
The end of the year is here when December arrives. All membera are obliged to look at their due books, and if you are in arrears kindly come to the meeting and pay up to be a good standing member. At this meeting also names will be called of those who have their dues paid, they are eligible for the free awards, that is if you are present or not. On Oct. 20th many of our members on a bus and many other cars proceeded to Chicago to be present at the Slovenian Oktet koncert, rt was well worth hearing such beautiful songs sung by persons Trom Slovenia.

After eight weeks of bowling we have several girls who have a 500 series or better. They are, Gen Klainsek high with 528, Ann Savol 527, Edith Rosenquist 526, Ann Sternisha 525, Jo Mlakar 52'2, Mary Gaspich 513, Marge Rachor 507, and Marge Wajchert 501. We have two newcomers to tho 200 game. They are, Elaine Panian with 210 and Ann Sternisha with 200. We would like to welcome Gert Pado-vich as our regular bowler. Gert was also a faithful sub.
On October 14, we had a visitor from Pennsylvania, Frances Sumic, sister-in-law of our Treasurer Josephine Sumic. Very nice to see you, Frances.
Our thanks to Mitzi Mrozek and Mary Rezick and their committee for the nice Halloween Party they planned lor us on October 28. Lodene Hayes was presented with first prize for masquerading as a Hobo; Gen Klainsek and Agnes Lovati won second and Helen Vessel won third prize. IT WAS “35” FOR BRANCH NO. 17 IN OCTOBER!
On Sunday, Oct. 6th, Branch 17 celebrated the 35th anniversary of its lounding with a Holy Mass at which all members received Holy Communion in a body followed by a breakfast at. St. Mary’s Auditorium. Breakfast was served promptly after an invocation by Rev. M. Setnicar, our Spiritual Advisor. Congratulations and best wishes were extended to the branch, to the organizer, Mrs. Josephine Schlosar and the charter members. He is to be complimented for his eloquent words. Following the breakfast, our president, Marion Marolt, opened the program with a warm welcome to our honored guests, Supreme Officers, members and friends. Congratulations were extended to the branch on this wonderful anniversary. Then she introduced Mrs. Schlosar, our organizer, and charter members who are still among us. They are: Mines. Josephine Schlosar Nimmers, Mary Petrich (a Supreme Officer of K.S.K.J.), Josephine Paucek, Frances Iin peri and Sophie Moze. Due to illness, unable to be present were: Gertrude Pugel and Mary Schwigel. Distance made it impossible for Rose Bizjak Ustar to attend as she resides in California and is now a member of Br. 300 in Fontana. A lovely gift was presented by the president to these charter members in behalf of
Mrs. Charles Barotliy (former Rose Smole) and their daughter on the tragic death of their 17 year old son and brother, John Barothy. He was tatully injured in an auto accident Sept. 28th. May their souls and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace!
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. John Zajc (Agnes) who on Oct. 26tli 26th celebrated their Golden Anniversary with a renewal or marriage vows at Mass and a reception in the evening at the American Legion Home. It was a happy occasion for them being greeted by many old time friends. Also, observing 50 years of marriage recently — (May 4th) were Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ponikvar (Anna). They passed the day quietly. To both couples, we wish many more happy years together!
The end of the year is a good time to remedy all past failings, so, now we thank the hostesses of the Feb., April, June and August meetings for the pleasant evenings spent in their homes. Also, “thank you” to Marie Prisland for the letter congratulating us on the 35th anniversary of this branch. It was organized on Aug. 1st, 1928 when a group of women met at the home or the late Mrs. Hose Smole.

the branch with the wish that all would be together again when the 40th anniversary is due. Beautiful corsages were presented to the honored guests and officers donated by Jackie Schlosar Nimmers, one of the charter members. Many thanks to you—you are always doing something nice!
We want to thank the Founder, Marie Prisland and Rose Kraemer, Wisconsin State President for honoring us by their presence and thank them for speaking so well in behalf of our celebration. The Slovenian Women's Union was founded in Dec. 1926 by Marie Prisland and then, other women inspired by what she had started, who had the same interest to bring the Union to a higher level and greater number, carried on.
Mrs. Josephine Schlosar, with a group of 21, organized Br. 17 on March 20, 192« in West Allis, Wis. Thru the years we have progressed and to date we have 164 adults and and 55 juniors, a total of 219 members.
In our group we also have a charter member from another branch, and she is none other than our rec. secretary, Fanny Medle Stroj. Thru the years the angel of death has taken 81 members from our midst— they are gone but not forgotten. We have so much to be thankful for—as through the years we have progressed it was due to the endless efforts of the organizer, Mrs. Schlosar, charter members and loyal members who with courage, perseverance and hard work, surpassed the hard road of experience and brought us to this 35th anniversary celebration.
Rev. Claude Okorn of Milwaukee, the Spiritual Advisor of the S.W.U., was unable to attend due to the heavy schedule of Masses at St. John’s. But he, as well as the St. Mary’s K.S.K.J. lodge sent cards of congratulations; so to them, we extend our thanks for their interest.
Mrs. Marie Floryan, the branch’s secretary was introduced and extended greetings to the members with a tew words in Slovenian. Then followed, in English, a brief history of the branch: how a sewing circle was formed, a singing club which came under the direction of Miss Josephine Imperl, the organist of St. Mary’s church, a drill team was also formed years back with Albin Glojek as the drill master, and the branch’s other activities which included church and civic affairs. During World War
II,	Mrs. Schlosar was appointed chairman and under her leadership we participated in Red Cross work, civil defense, War Bond drives and entertained sevice men. Dramatics played a great part in our past with Mother’s Day plays, operettas and dramas in which the adult and juvenile membership participated. Now we come to
the present time and find that we are still very active with sending gifts and flowers to the hospitalized, also Christmas cards and hankies to shut-ins, gifts to the juveniles at Christmas time, card parties for church and for our treasury and our favorite sport of bowling which we all enjoy.
At this time we are trying to raise money for a church window in the new St. Mary’s church, a project which has the interest of all of us.
A small gift was presented by Mrs. Floryan to the charter members and faithrul reporter, Angela Kastelic. A floral centerpiece with a pen was presented to Mrs. Schlosar on behalf of the president and secretary for helping and advising them through the years.
Representation from Branch no. 1, Sheboygan, was introduced and spokesman, Mrs. Mary Godec, their president, extended congratulations and wishes for many years of success.
At this time, the branch wishes to compliment and thank Mrs. Mary Pet-rich for the beautiful 35th anniversary cake which she baked and donated for the occasion. It was distributed among those present.
We are grateful to all of our members and friends who helped in any way to prepare for this celebration with donations of prizes, baked goods, food, etc. Everything was so tasty; Thanks to the Choir, cooks, workers, waitresses and all for your help.
Mrs. Schlosar also presented the Founder, Mrs. Prisland and Mrs. Floryan lovely gifts and gave thanks to the branch for all the cooperation given her and wished the members greater success in the future. M.A.F.
No. 17, West Allis, Wis. — We are
having ideal weather for the season, and winter is here this month. Our .annual meeting will be on Sunday, Dec. 15, 1963 at 2 p. m. at St. Mary’s Auditorium in Room 3. Please use the back door. It is important that every member attends this meeting as we have business to discuss and election of officers for the coming year. We will have an exchange of Christmas gifts ($1.00 value) among the members. Cake and coffee will be served. Our two card parties held for the benefit of our new church building fund turned out very successful. Many thanks to those members who donated money and such lovely prizes and those who attended. meeting of Oct. ICth was held at the Community Center Bldg. President Barbara Brennan opened the meeting with prayer which also w'as dedicated to our departed members. No. 23, Ely, Minn, On Nov. 3rd, our branch celebrated the 35th anniversary with a very nice meeting-cele-bration at St. Anthony's parish hall and a good attendance was present.
A short meeting was held first; and then, a luncheon was served with Mrs. Molly Zupancich in charge of the committee. Mrs. Stephanie Vra-nesich and Florence Markovich were in charge of the corsages; Mrs. Barbara Brennan and Amelia Malnev were in charge of the tables and Rose Pucell and Emma Pucel in charge of the entertainment.
Our branch was organized in Sept., 1928 with the following officers: Mrs. Mary Jerich (deceased) president; Mrs. Katherine Kapsch. vice-president; Mrs. Katherine Slogar, secretary; Miss Mary Agnich (deceased), treasurer, and auditors were Mrs. Katherine Peshel, Miss Mary Slafcod-nik (both deceased) and Mrs. Frances Tomsich.
Rev. Frank Mihelcieh, spiritual advisor of our branch gave an interesting talk on Zveza and said that he sees by reading the monthly magazine Zarja, how the organization has been active and growing because of good management and cooperation He told us to keep up the good work.
No. 25, Cleveland, Ohio. Here again is the remarkable, gay Holiday season of the year. The tinseled window trims and colorful displays make one wish we were young again, picking out favorite toys and dolls, drums and rummy turn turn. Remember the baking aroma of potica and fresh bread, like only ma could bake? Oh, well — anyway we have those wonderful memories.
Our branch will be having a Christmas party at the next meeting. A one dollar exchange gift, special door prizes and a high spirited refreshing dinner with a variety of desserts to offer the members that attend this outstanding yearly treat.

No. 24, LaSalle, III. The smell of winter is In the air and we hope you feel like attending our yearly meeting on Decemer 1st. We especially hope to see the members who only attend once a year. This Is also the time to pay up your dues so that we can close the books for 1963. It won’t be possible for me to collect from home to home nor to pay up deliquent dues and hope the members who owe will pay me back. Therefore, all mem-

The four charter members with us were presented beautiful hanky corsages; they were:	Mmes. Frances
Tomsich, Katherine Kapsch, Katherine Slogar and Mary Gornick.
A beautifully decorated cake with the 35 year emblem was the centerpiece of the main table—It was made and decorated by Mrs. Margaret Shus ter, our auditor. The cake was served later on with ice cream as dessert.
The other tables were decorated with madonna vases containing yellow and white mums. Miss Mary Hutar led the community singing. In conclusion, Mrs. Ann Camaish showed beautiful colored slides of her trip to Germany and Jugoslavia and gave interesting remarks on each slide as she showed them. The members really enjoyed It. We want to thank Mrs. Marie Prisland for the congratulations and best wishes letter she sent us; also, to Mrs. Mary Lenich of Eveleth who couldn’t attend but sent her best wishes. No. 33, Duluth, Minn. Once again our annual smorgasbord dinner for the members joining in — was a huge success. It was on Nov. 6th with over
100	members attending. Each member contributed their specialty in food so that when all these dishes were combined, the table looked fabulous. Thanks to the committee in charge. The chairmen were: Josephine Grego-rich and Dorothy Rychlak. Mrs. Frank Krall was presented with a gift, shfr being the organizer of our branch. Many door prize« were awarded. For entertainment, Christine Burger, our juvenile member, rendered som« accordion numbers which were enjoyed by all. The meeting followed. Two new members were enrolled — Patricia Scott and Verna Homich. Welcome girls.
Following, a report was given by yours truly on the Semi-Annual Board «f Directors meeting in Chioago in August especially with news about our coming convention in Chicago next May. Congratulations were extended to members who helped to place fls third in the last membership drive and the members were urged to try to do wen better in the Pre-Convention campaign now in progress. Discussions followed on chartering 'a bus to the convention city — but we will still be talking about that later on.
Winifred Bllena and Rena DoMe accepted offices as juvenile directors for 1964. Mrs. Fresel donated a handmade crocheted doll for a special project. A big thank you to her — from it our treasui-y gained quite a. bit. The president selected a committee for our Christmas party Deo. 4. Be sure to be present. Popular games followed the meeting which ended a very enjoyable evening for us.
ELY BRANCH HAS GALA CELEBRATION
I am very happy to be back home with my friends and relatives after a two month vacation out west. My husband, Frank and I visited our son, Ittll and family at Campbell, Calif., lor a very enjoyable and memorable (I weeks. While there we motored with son and daughter-in-law Arlene to Sacramento to visit my brother Rudolph and family for a few days and of course, there w'as much happiness dining that time Seeing one another again was a special thrill because so many miles separate us that it’s virtually impossible to visit often. The many wonderful people we met at the Slovenian Hall where a. dinner dance was being held by the K.S.K.J. lodge was quite an affair. Our S.W.U. State President, Rose Scoff really showed us a good time. Also present were the officers of lir. 13 whom 1 was very happy to meet and get to know. The president, Geraldine Adami asked me to attend their meeting and games [party at a later date, but since our lime was so limited it was impossible for us to stay. Perhaps some other time, when I can spend a few days in San Francisco.
Everyone was having a grand time
—	like one happy family. Rose Scoff’s family really were wonderful to us. We shall never forget them. Also, we visited Mrs. Bara Kramer, who w;as a great promoter of our organization and she herself organized a number of branches. We were so happy to see her. Since her health is not up to par, she is confined to her home, but we had a wonderful visit for quite some time. God bless her! She asked to have her best wishes extended to all the Supreme Officers and her many friends whom she is not able to contact. Her heart and soul, is Zveza She regrets only that she is not able to attend the convention, but wishes a very successful one, beneficial to all the members. — Thanks to the lady who took me to the house —sorry that I can’t remember her name.
Rn route home, we stopped at Los Angeles, Tucson, At 'zona, Albuc uer-que, New Mexico and Denver, Colo., where we visited with relatives and friends. We saw many places of interest and much beauty — wherever we were there were sights to behold.
This trip will remain in our memory forever. Thanks to everyone who in any way made it such a wonderful one. Wishes to all for a healthy, joyful Christmas and prosperous New Year.	Ann Podgoršek, Reporter
No. 34, Soudan, Minn. Our meeting was held on Wednesday evening, Oct. If. which was the eve of our departure lor Milwaukee, Wis., so I had to wait until we returned to do this writeup.
Making this trip with my husband and me were his brother, Peter Yapel and his sister (Louise) Mrs. Louis CWabotti. We spent four plesant
days as guests of our gracious hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Yapel (another brother of my husband) and also we madle a trip to the Veteran’s Hospital at Downey, 111., to visit his brother Jack who is a patient there.
During our stay in Milwaukee, we also made a trip to Holy Hill Monastery and visited the Shrines and “made” the Stations and we did the same at the Franciscan Monastery.
Our meeting on Wednesday before we left was well attended and Mrs. John Pahula presided. We added a new member to our Branch that night, Mrs. Leo Wilson who also was lucky to get the attendance prize. Following the business meeting a social hour was held with prize winners being Mrs. Joseph Gornick, Mrs. Louis Zu-panich, Mrs. Joseph Jamnick and Mrs. Joseph Stefianich. The evening wras concluded with a delicious luncheon served by the hostesses, Mrs. Victor Chiabotti and Mrs. Herman Mesojedec. No. 42, Maple Hts., Ohio. — The
meeting of October 23rd had an attendance of thirteen members with hostessess:	Antonia Legan, Antonia
Matis and Mildred Lipnos. The door prize was won by Cecelia Hočevar.
It was agreed that our lodge will donate drapery rods for the club room of the Slovenian National Home.
Also plans were discussed for the Christmas supper on December 11th, at 6 p. m. Theresa Simončič is going to give everyone a hearty appetite with her home-cooking! A donation of a dollar is asked of each member to help pay expenses. To add to the holiday festivities, a dollar-gift exchange will take place after the food vanishes. Don’t forget to come to this event with bells on!
Wedding bells rang for Mary Lou Fink McHenry, daughter of Mary, on September 27th Best wishes to the newly weds. In the month of November, three members celebrated their wedding anniversaries: Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fink (30), Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lipnos (30), Mr. and Mrs. Louis Fink (25). Congratulations to each couple and hope that there are many more years of happiness to come.
Now that 19G2 is coming to a close, the holidays are making the scene. Beautiful green Chirstmas trees are bright with colored lights and gleaming with crystal ornaments. Presents or all shapes and sizes sit patiently Deneath the tree to be opened on the BIG day. While boughs of holly adorn the halls, glad tidings are spread rrom house to house. “Until 19G4, I hope everyone has a merry Christinas and a Prosperous New Year!”

No. 45, Portland, Ore. — No October meeting was held in our Portland local due to the absence of our popular president, Mary Roso. Mary had an unfortunate accident about a month ago and fractured her leg. She was in the hospital for Z weeks, is home now and looking forward to being w,ith us at our Christmas Party in December. She thanks all for the many lovely cards and gifts.
We want to remind our members that the 2nd Tuesday of each month is meeting night at the home of our kind member, Florence Lolich. Please attend this meeting, one and all. Many are behind in their dues. Let’s get caught up as the year is ending. If impossible to attend, please mail your dues to Florence Lolich.
To any members wrho are not well, we wish you speedy recovery.
Let’s get some members—bring one to the next meeting. We hope to have a big turnout for our Christmas party. See you then, for the usual goodies and exchange of gifts. Remember, meeting nights are on the second Tuesday of the month!

No. 46, St. Louis, Mo. — On Nov. 10th, our regular meeting day, we planned a surprise for one of our members, Ann Johnson, celebrating her 50th wedding anniversary. Her family was also giving her a party oil Nov. 17th. Many more good years together, Ann and Adolf Johnson. Congratulations.
On Oct. 25, I arrived in Cleveland, Ohio, for the wedding of Frank Yan-kovic’s daughter on Oct. 26th. It’s a wedding I will remember and one the like of which I know I will never again attend. The church wedding was beautiful and every one who attended the Mass was given the Papal blessing. Everyone from out of town was invited to the breakfast and that w'as around 800 people I would say. In the evening, the reception was a typical Slovenian one. Plenty of potica, krofe, (1 hope that’s spelled right for raised yeast doughnuts). So much food and drinks! It was fabulous. Frank actually did outdo himself. He and his wife, June really did a wonderful job. Next day on Sunday, we from out of town were invited to Frank’s home where more food and drinks were served again. They certainly were wonderful hosts. I hope when the second daughter gets married I will again be invited. It was really worth while going. The best part of it was being able to see Frank after his accident and to see that he 1b getting around so well with his steel brace. He walked his daughter down the aisle. Keep up the good work, Frank. It will be wonderful when you can again play the ac-cordian.
I have no definite news to report about our Christinas party. Have to discuss it at the regular Nov. meeting. So, every one better get in touch with your officers if we decide at the meeting. Find out when and where.
Sincere sympathy to Margaret Do-lenz on the death of her only brother. He was sick a long time and was buried on Oct. 29th. Our deepest sympathy to the family.
I thought of my friends in Indianapolis when I flew over by jet on Sunday, Oct. 27th. I hope none of you were In that explosion at the Ice Show. It was terrible!
I believe this will be my last article for this year and may be my last because I have decided to give up my job as recording sec’y, that is, and reporter. I have done it now for 3 years. I am working more as a nurse at St. John’s Hospital and it’s rough doing so many things.
I wish to extend my best wishes for a happy and holy holiday season to our members as well as all the members of all our branches. For a year of good health. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year!

No. 50 Cleveland, Ohio. Here we are again, just like busy bees — activities going on all the time. Come on, you and you and you! Bring us your i-deas — we need the suggestions of some of our long absent members. You’ll enjoy yourself, so why not come and join us? Dorothy Kulas is on the sick list — we are so sorry to hear this. May God help her and bring her back on her feet again. This also goes for Josephine Krasovic and Christine Meklaucic. Our get well wishes to all of you.
In October we had a lot of doings. Went to the State Convention at Stra-bane, Pa. on Oct. 6t.h and had a wonderful time. We sang and sang all the way — no matter how we sounded, we enjoyed every bit of it, with the help of our accordion players, Dominic Dekleva (Ann’s husband) and Max Želodec (Rose’s husband). They really touched it up and made it a merry, jolly time. Going out like this is really good for the health! Believe me, everyone should get out this way once In a while and shake off your nerves! Back to the doing in Stra-bane: Mrs. Mary Tomsic, state president, is surely the peppiest person. She doesn’t give up and at her age, you should see her energy! I, for one, admire her ambition. Bless her. It was so great to meet people from all over. Thanks to the Strabane ladies for their hospitality.
On Oct. 13th, we had our combined branches bazaar. Toni Turek worked so hard with the help of her wonderful husband and they soon had everything set up. Our hearty thanks to them.

stuff together and some things were difficult and heavy. Oh, so many of our girls just worked and worked.
Sophie Kaplan made a day of it and so did Carol Traven whom I admire for the beautiful job of interior decorating she did on stage for the style show. Have to hand it to her! And, the same goes for Frances Sietz.
Our secretary, Marie Beck was also ambitious and here’s a reminder for all those who still owe dues, to take care of this matter and relieve Marie of this headache. She’ll help you if there are any questions — just call her up.
Well, we showed our surprise package! It did surprise people to think we ladies could still do a good job marching, in spite of little practice and being out of condition. This was a last minute job but we were proud of the way things worked out, with the help of our good instructor, Frances Sietz. She knows her stuff, that’s for sure! Also, to Ernestine Jevec, she trys so hard with the junior drill teams — they looked so darling, every size of them and they all do a nice job. I think this is the thing to be kept up in our organization — something of this kind brightens up the branches and makes them all the more active. I know everyhody likes to watch a drill team. We were reminiscing — what has become of all the drill teams and all the activities we had with them? I urge more branches to do something of this sort to make a more interested membership. There were some prizes given away from our branch and Ann Slapnik won the first prize, a lovely af-ghan. Second prize was the Madonna to Jennie Zalo and third prize, a large doll to Christine Glaven. We hope they are happy with their prizes. We thank everyone who gave us so many compliments and we hope to keep it up.
We also are happy that all the baked goods were sold and that everything was so beautifully done. Thanks to our members, one and all Wishes to each and everyone for a Merry Christmas and a happy, prosperous New Year. May God bless you and good luck to all.

No. 54, Warren, Ohio. — Members who did not attend the October meeting missed a very enjoyable evening. The turnout was the largest, we have had in many months. It's a real pleasure to see so many; so, let’s keep it up! The highlight of the evening was the presentation of gifts to Vicki Zuga, Mary Zuga and Elsie Persin, who celebrated their silver anniversaries in the past year. These ladies were given lovely silver serving trays.
Our Christmas Party this year is to be a covered dish dinner on the evening of our regular meeting, Dec. 12th at G p. m. Please bring your own table service and a $1.00 gift for the exchange among menlbers. Your name is to be included in the list so the receiver will know who to thank. Joanne Ponikvar will be in charge of the arrangements for the evening.
I have not received word of any members being sick so, I trust you you are all in good health and hope you will stay that way! If any mem-is ill, may good health and God’s blessings be yours!

No. 55, Girard, Ohio. October meeting was opened with a prayer led by president, Miss Beatrice Brayer. The meeting was well attended. It was announced that a mass would be offered for the members on Nov. 23rd.
Mrs. Theresa Lozier also took reservations for a communion breakfast lor the members early in November.
Plans were made for a gift exchange at the December meeting. After the business session, all enjoyed a social hour. We are sorry to report that Mrs. Virginia Bestic is a patient at South Side Hospital in Youngstown. We heard she broke her back. A very heartfelt wish to her for a speedy recovery. The same good wishes to all who may be ill. God speed your recovery!
Mrs. Richard Juvančič was chairman for the evening. She was assisted by Mrs. Nettie Juvančič and Mrs. Frances Juvančič. They served delicious refreshments. Games were played with prizes going to Mrs. Barbara Umeck, Mrs. Mary Nigut. Till next month, stay healthy and happy.

No. 56, Hibbing, Minn. — The monthly meeting of Branch No. 56 was held at the Assumption Hall on October 8. We discussed our December meeting at this time. Plans were tentatively made to have either a smorgasbord or a larger lunch committee for this Christmas gathering. The regular $1.00 exchange of gifts would also be held for those wanting to exchange. As usual we hope to have a larger turnout in December.

It is with pleasure yet some apprehension that I take over this column. Mother has thoroughly enjoyed preparing the articles and the many letters of appreciation which followed. I hope this relationship will continue.
It is my intention to serve you with your favorite recipes, for we all know that there are many old family recipes that can never be improved upon. I would enjoy receiving letters from you asking about some particular problem and including a favorite recipe, or two, to share with the readers.
May I take this opportunity to wish all of you a most “Merry Christmas! ”

With Christmas baking close at hand here are three varied and delicious cookie recipes.
MINT MERINQUES
This is a party cookie and can be attractively served the year around.
3 egg whites
Va. teaspoon peppermint (if desired)
1 teaspoon vinegar
I	cup white sugar
Green coloring
1	package choclate mint chips. These are not available in all stores so you may have to do some inquiring. (The Red Owl usually carries them). Heat oven to 350 degrees. Beat meringues and vinegar until very stiff (may take as long as 10 minutes by hand), adding sugar by the teaspoonful. Fold in a few drops of green coloring then gently fold in the mint chips. Drop by teaspoonfuls on cookie sheet covered with waxed paper. (You may need two sheets). Now place cookie sheets in oven. Close door and tur«
MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM THE DICKE FAMILY

off oven and leave in for 6 hours. (You can make these in the evening and leave in the oven over night.)
PECAN PUFFS
Vs pound shortening (half butter and half vegetable shortening. This totals two cups)
1 cup pecans, chopped Vi cup powdered sugar
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons vailla
1 tablespoon water Cream sugar and shortening. Add rest of ingredients. Roll into balls a-bout size of quarter. Do not grease cookie sheet. Bake 50 min. at 250 degrees. While hot, roll in powdered sugar.
SUGAR COOKIES
This is an easy dough to roll out and cut into different shapes.
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder >4 teaspoon salt
1 and V* cups sugar
1 cup shortening
3	eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
Sift dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender or fork, until consistency of coarse sand. Add unbeaten eggs (one at a time) and vanilla. Roll out on floured board or pastry cloth. Cut into desired shapes. Bake about 8 min. at 375 degrees. Makes 5 to G dozen.
Decorating Icing: Into 1 cup sifted confectioners’ sugar, stir just enough water (about 1 tablespoon) to make icing easy to spread. Tint if desired with a few drops of food coloring.
Stars: Cover with white icing. Sprinkle with sky blue sugar.
Bells: Outline with red icing. Make
clapper of red icing, (favorite with children).
Christmas Trees: Spread with white icing—then sprinkle with green sugar. Decorate with silver and tiny colored candies.

Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zaic (she is the founder of our Branch No. 5G) celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary during the month of October. We extend to them our heartiest congratulations. Both Mr. and Mrs. Zaic enjoy good health and an open house was held for them at the home of one of their daughters where they received their friends and relatives. May they enjoy many more happy years together.
A social hour followed the short business meeting with prizes in games going to Val Carlson, Agnes Barkis, Rose Chernugal and Angelina Passino.

No. 57, Niles, Ohio. Our October meeting was well-attended. It’s what we like to see as a nice time is had by all, I’m sure. Games were played and nice prizes awarded; also a delicious luneheon served at eaeh meeting.
At the 35th anniversary of Br. 25 at Cleveland, 14 of our members attended. It was nice seeing members from other branches. We were very thrilled to hear the talk by Supreme Scretary, Albina Novak. We hope to be able to hear you again sometime, Albina. We’ve discussed our Christmas party to be held at the Chicken Manor in Girard, Ohio. Hope we have a good attendance. All members and guests are to bring a one dollar gift exchange als* a 25 cent prize award for games. The Christmas party will be held at our regular meeting night.

While I’m on the thanking part of this article, I would like to thank the

Add a garland of reflecting silver beads to your Christmas-wrapped candle.
Remember, silver is the perfect lighlight for the most colorful season of the year.
In a living room riotous with gaily-lit tree multi-colored tree balls, and kaleidoscopic interplay of vibrant gift wrap design and shiny ribbon . . . keep silver trim simple.
What could be a lovlier sight to greet arriving guests than a Christmas “fountain” of greenery rising from a fanciful silver base . . . set on your foyer table?
The suggestion is from the drawing board of Sally Wallace, design consultant at Wallace Silversmiths. Many elaborate candelabra have detachable parts, and to start your fountain you will need a holder for just one candle. Pop a pine cone the holder instead . . . and “root” the holder in a bed of styrofoam set in your prettiest silver compote! Feathery branches of cedar stuck in the styrofoam form the “spray” of the fountain . . . and a scattering of more cones can fill in thin spots.
For an added dash of glamour, touch the curling ends of the cones with gilt paint ... or spray the cones with glitter . . . before setting them in place.

As the hunting season is here, many of our husbands and sons have gone hunting for big game. Quite a few were successful.
My son, Henry, left for the Army on October 30th. We have had beautiful weather but on Oct. 31st had a touch of snow which helped greatly as we need the moisture very much.

No. 73, Warrensville Hgts., Ohio. — The bazaar was so successful, thanks to all the ladies who donated and all who worked. The winner of the money tree was Anna Strekal of Br. 101.
The Style Show was lovely. Cleo Eble wore a dress with jacket and daughter, Beverly, a two-piece wool dress. Catherine Papez wore a cocktail dress with jacket made by Mary Juratovac. Louise Epley wore a double knit shift. All were presented beautiful earrings. On our sick list: Helen Papa, grandmother for the second time! Congratulations and hope all are fine.
We are having a Holy Mass offered for deceased members this month.
Our Christmas party will be Dec. 2nd at G:30 p.m. as a pot-luck supper at Josephine Turk’s home. The members who care to, can donate one dollar toward a Christmas gift for a very needy charity of our choice.
We had our annual birthday dinner at Paderewski’s on Harvard Avenue. About 43 were in our party including some guests. All the members who had birthdays were happy ones! Best wishes to them. On our sick list are a number of members — hope they are all feeling better and no new ones get on that list! Also, a reminder to pay up your dues before the year closes.

Oct. meeting, the members who were present made some of the plans for our Christmas party which will be held on Dec. 12th. One change we made concerns our grab-bag gifts. Instead of each member having to shop for a gift, it was decided that Lois Ann Neuman and I would collect a dollar donation from each person at the November meeting—those who would be attending the Party in December, and she and I will purchase all the grab-bag gifts. You will then be assured of getting your money’s worth. Lois Ann and I will do our best to get a large variety of useful gifts. The money was to be collected at the November meeting, but, in case you are still interested and plan to attend in December, you can donate a dollar at the party, as we will be prepared with extra gifts.

No. 74, Ambridge Pa. Quite a few months have gone by since my last report in Zarja. Our branch has had no activities, however, we still remain in touch with each othor on special occasions. We are sad to report that one of our honorary members passed away. She was Mary Becek. She was quite well-known and we extend our deepest sympathy to her sons, Joseph and Fred and their families.

No. 85, Depue, III. We resumed our monthly meetings on Oct. 20th after the long summer vacation. Hope everyone had a nice summer. The trip to Lemont, 111., on July 20th was enjoyed by the group of our members who attended. During the meetings, plans were discussed for the raising of funds. We dispensed with the usual social hour due to the closing of the Forty Hour Devotions at St. Mary’s Church.
Congratulations to Mrs. Jalia Pettko on becoming a grandmother, recently. Also, congratulations to Mrs. Theresa Grilic and Mrs. Mary Stupar who celebrated birthdays in October. May you both have many more.
Speedy recovery is wished to Mrs. Ann Miller and Mrs. Frances Kopina; also, to any other member who may be ill. Belated sympathy is extended to Mrs. Caroline Novak and family whose husband and father, Martin went to his eternal reward several months ago. Hope you are feeling better, Mrs. Novak, after your recent illness and major surgery.

It was a grand day and also a pleasure to be able to meet our Supreme President, Mrs. Toni Turek who is a lovely person and also, Mrs. Mary Bostian and the other ladies who came from Cleveland. It was nice to meet so many lovely ladies from all over Ohio. I would like to thank the members of Br. 96, Universal, Pa., who all went in one bus and had one grand time going out as well as coming back. It sure was fun! Hi, ladies of No. 96!
Best wishes to all the sick for speedy recoveries and our sympathy to sister Jennie Hajduk and family on the loss of their father, Matt Langus. May he rest in peace.

meeting in Sept. was held in Gunnison at the home of Mrs. Peter Sterk. After the business meeting, popular games were played and an enjoyable time was had by all. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Keith Lubin on the birth of their son. Our meeting in October was held at the home of Miss Aurelia Welch. Hostesses for Sept. were Kay Sterk and Donna Christolf; for October, Ann Malenšek and myself. Our chapel at the cemetery is very nice and a tribute to our lodge as we solicited funds for this project. We are enjoying a beautiful Indian summer. Some snow fell in the moutains last week-end, but already much of it has melted.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Lacy on their fiftieth anniversary. An open house was held for them in Pueblo at the home of her daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. John Vidic. Best wishes to them on their golden anniversary and may God grant them many more happy years together.
My youngest son, John, is home on leave. Time is going by too quickly and he will have to leave for Midway Island soon where he will be stationed. John graduated on Oct. 11th U. S. Naval School, Engineman Class A, Service School Command, U. S. Naval Training Center, Great Lakes,
111.	The 12 week course covered refrigeration and air conditioning, diesel engine repairing and maintenance; also several other courses. Also, the committee has informed me that final arrangements have been made to assure the outstanding success of our Christmas party, that the same format will prevail as in previous years — that is, exchanging gifts among members, etc.
Of course, each member is asked to bring along something in the line of baked goods or refreshments, which ever you choose — this is very much appreciated. There will be scores of prizes and entertainment, needless to say, you will want to add your own dash of imagination. After all, wouldn’t it be a pleasant way of getting into the spirit of Christmas?

meeting was well-attended and a lovely time was had by all at Mrs. Jos. Lindich’s lovely home. She served us a wonderful luncheon and other refreshments. We want to thank her for the hospitality shown. She supplied the usual hostess gift which went to Mrs. Mary Zimmerman. Alice Kocjan brought us another gift to boost our treasury fund and that was received by yours truly. Thanks to Mrs. Lindich and also to Alice.
Our new member, Mrs. Urbanic, was present at the meeting and offered us her home for the November meeting. Many thanks, Mary. Mrs. Fulvia Rosa had offered her home for this year’s Christmas party. We usually have loads of fun exchanging gifts, etc. We hope for nice weather so many members can attend. To Mrs. Lindich, Mrs. Petrich and Mrs. Nez-beda, we wish a very happy birthday!
Our president, Pauline Adamic attended a bowling tournament at Strabane, Pa. and reported having a good time. Julia Panzica and Frances Rousek made a trip to our state capital in Lansing a few weeks ago and were entertained by Julia’s brother who is a representative in state government from St. Clair Shores, Mich. The girls met other officials and high celebraties and had a ball!

The banquet program at the silver anniversary of the Oglesby Slovenian Women’s Union, May 13th, was varied with instrumental music, dancing, singing, speaking apd a grand banquet for several hundred members and guests.

HAPPY 25TH!
Mrs. Rose Ann Prey, Mrs. Josephine Schmidt and Mrs. Josephine Morrison had the responsibility of the successful banquet. Mrs. Prey was general chiarman, Mrs. Schmidt was narrator for the memoriam and publicity chairman while Mrs. Morrison was decoration chairman. There were approximately 75 of the 160 members of Br. 89 present.
Three women who were given special honor at the banquet were: Mrs. Mary Cenkar, seated left, who was chosen “Mother of the Year”, Mrs. Mary Yazbec, a charter member, who organized the union in Oglesby, and standing, Mrs. Joyce Fulara, who was voted the “Best Worker" of the year. Others introduced as special members were some of the older people, Mrs. Frank Kuhar, Sr., a charter
member and Mrs. Anna Siolz. Charter members were presented gifts. Mrs. Mary Prosen, a member from Moline, was a guest.
The current officers of Br. 89 are seen on the adjoining picture. They are, left to right: Frances Meglich, Pres., Mary Kernz, Vice-Pres., Angela Nico, Rec. Sec’y., Nancy Kleczewski, Fin. Sec’y., and Sophie Franks, Treas.
There are only four past presidents of the Slovenian Women’s Union: Mrs. Frances Nemeth who was in office for eight years, Mrs. Josephine Livek, who served 14 years, Mrs. Mary Meglich Yazbec, who was also the organizer, served one year, and Mrs. Anna Stor served two years. Mrs. Frances Meglich is the anniversary president and she welcomed the guests and presented Mrs. Livek, the toastmaster. When the group organized there were 13 transfers from the La Salle lodge and 10 new members were secured in Oglesby. Now there are
101	adult members and 58 juniors.
Two members of the Junior Unit of the Slovenian Union took part in the ritual of the Memorial when 19 senior members and one junior member who died since the organization started were remembered. The junior members taking part were Miss Pamela Skoporc and Miss Pamela Wasllewski. Mrs. Josephine Schmidt was the narrator for the candlelighting ceremony.
Also on the program were three singers, Mrs. Frances Gorišek, who sang “Ave Maria”, Miss Mary Kernz, the Union’s vice president, and Mrs. Lena Dawson, who told of the union's bowling activities.
The Eh Compari Band stole the show. Directed by Miss Alphonsa Tamborini, the following were in the group: Mrs. Lena Dawson, Mrs. Frances Gorišek, Miss Helen Pa-procki, Miss Eleanor Paprocki and Miss Mary Vecchi. The band members sang, danced, and played their instruments.

We hope you will note with special interest the pages in this issue which are reserved for the holiday greetings of our friendly businessmen from Colo., Minn, and Ohio. These were due to the hard work and interest of our officers: Mrs. Anna Pachak of Pueblo, Mrs. Christine Konte ol' Canon City, Mrs. Ella Starin of Cleveland and Mrs. Mary Lenich of Ele-leth. Words are indeed insufficient to thank these kind ladies for their efforts, but they are the sort who receive their thanks in knowing the satifaction of a job well done. Anyway, we thank them most heartily and hope God gives them good health and happiness in abundance.
Thoughts are with us this month about Christmas and Christmas giving. We are all the same in that our generosity sometimes gets the better of our pocketbooks—especially when it conies to the children. In many cases, you will be looking for just
the right kind of gift for someone in your family or friendship circle, and then, you’ll be stymied!
Have you ever thought of the beautiful gift membership in S.W.U. can be. A year’s membership in the local branch, of which you yourself are la member will be appreciated very much by someone who may not have the opportunity of joining otherwise. She’ll love being a part of the organization and enjoy her branch once she’s acquainted with it. Often it’s just a question of not making contact with an officer that prevents someone from joining. Or, it’s put off till another time. But, you decide now, that this IS the time for your relative or friend to belong to S.W.U, and for Christmas, sign her up! Our S.W.U. projects for the coming year of 1964 will be very exciting
for all. The grand National Convention looms ahead of us in the month of May. All branches from far and near will be sending their representatives to Chicago to participate in this important event. Perhaps you will find the opportunity of attending, too. We hope so and that you will truly enjoy being with your
S.W.U. sisters for those few days.
The excursions to Canada, Europe and particularly Slovenia will be planned again this summer. These are for members and their families. So, if you wish it, you can have a marvelous time, traveling about and enjoying yourself. The organization is planning these events for the pleasure of its members and at excursion rates which are drastically low.
In conclusion, wishes for an old-fashioned Merry Christmas with glowing trees in your homes, good things to eat, traditional family visits and gatherings and above all, a joyous spirit in your heart!

Na svetu je mnogo dobrih, človekoljubnih ljudi — tudi naša Zveza jih ima — ki nam radi svoje plemienitosti vzbujajo lepe spomine.
Letos nastopamo 20-to leto odkar je bil ustanovljen Zvezin Prijateljski krožek z namenom, da pritegne vplivnie in za višjo izobrazbo razumevajoče osebe, katerih članarina bi naj pripomogla malo prej ustanovljenemu Šolninskemu skladu k uspehu in obstoju.
Od početka do danes se je v at krožek vpisalo 103 oseb, katerih članarina znaša nad 3 tisoč dolarjev. K temu je veliko pripomogla bivša glavna tajnica Josephine Erjavec, ki je pridobila mnogo Prijateljev.
Članarina je bila določena 20 dolarjev za osebo. Nekateri so darovali več, zavedajoč se, da je akademska izobrazba zlasti v sedajni dobi mladim ljudem neobhodno potrebna. V Ta namen se je iz Šolninskega sklada dosedaj izdalo $6,600.00. Šolninske nagrade se izdajo na podlagi učnih redov in potrebe. V imenu vsieh 26 študentov in študentk, katerim je poklonjena šolnina pripomogla doseči njih življenski cilj, naj bo izrečena globoka zahvala Prijateljem, kakor tudi Zvezinim podružnicam, članicam in ostalim dobrotnikom, ki so prispevali in še prispevajo v Šol-ninski sklad.
Idejo Šolninskega fonda so pozneje adoptirale tudi naše velike in ugledne slovenske Jednote in Zveze.

ŠL 1, Sheboygan, Wis. Glavno sejo naše podružnice bomo imele dne 15. dec., to je tretjo nedeljo ob 2 uri po-poledne v cerkveni dvorani. Prosimo vse članice, da se te letne seje udeležite, ker imamo več važnih stvari na dnevnem redu.
Volile bomo novi odbor za prihodnje leto in na tej seji bodo oddani dobitki na listke, katere imamo v prodaji že več mesecev. Tudi prigrizek bo za družabno uro. Prinesite božično darilo za izmenjavo v vrednosti 50 centov in to nekaj za uporabo v kuhinji.
Iskrene čestitke izrekamo sosestri in njenemu soprogu, Mr. in Mrs. Frank Ribich ob priliki njune 50 letnice zakonskega življenja. Otroci so jima
12.	okt. priredili lepo slavnost s slovesno av. mašo v domači cerkvi Sv. Cirila in Metoda in nato sprejem in gostijo na domu sina odvetnika F. Ribich. Sestra Frances je naša ustanovna in vsa leta lojalna članica. Že-lima jima se dolgo let zdravja in sreče. Bog vaju živi!

Št. 2, Chicago, III. Odbornice se želijo zahvaliti vsem članicam in prijateljem, ki so se udeleželi naše no-vemberske prireditve, (penny social) ki je tako lepo uspela. Dobiček bo šel v sklad za mladinsko božičnico, ki se bo vršila dne 15. dec. ob 2 uri popoldne. Želimo, da pridejo vsi mladinski člani skupno z njihovimi mamami in starimi mamicami. Program bo v spodnji svetoštefanski dvorani ob dveh in potem bo prišel Miklavž z darili, nakar bodo servirana okrepčila.
Proslavile bomo 37 letnico ustanovitve naše Zveze sv. mašo 15. dec. zjutraj, ki bo darovana za vse žive in pokojne članice podr. in Zveze.
Naj Bog blagoslovi vse vrle delavke, ki neumorno delujejo za napredek organizacije!
Globoko sožalje izražamo naši nadzornici, Sophie Petrovič in hčerkam ob izgubi moža in očeta, Johna Petroviča. Podlegel je srčnemu napadu ter je njegova smrt globoko odjeknila v naselbini. Naj počiva v miru.
Letna seja podr. se bo vršila 12. dec. Upamo, da bodo vse članice, predvsem tudi tiste, ki nikoli ne pridejo, uporabile to priliko, da se ponovno seznanimo na seji z delom podružnice. Razgovor se bo vršil o programu dela za bodoče leto, predvsem tudi načrti za Narodno Konvencijo SŽZ, ki se bo vršila v Chicagu, dne 17. maja, 1964.

Št. 3, Pueblo, Colo. Ko to pišem je nastopila jesen. Listje na drevju rumeni in vse se pripravlja na zimski počitek. Upam, da ste se vse izletnice srečno vrnile iz rodne domovine. Naša častna predsednica, je podala v svoji koloni Oh, ta svet, zanimiv potopis. Zarjo je okrasila tudi lepa slika bazilika v Rimu. Vse kaže, da je bilo potovanje prijetno. Tudi gl. tajnica, A. Novak, bi se naj kaj oglasila s svojimi vtisi iz naše mile Slovenije in drugih dežel, katere je prepotovala.
Za veseljem pa pridejo tudi žalostne novice. Naši ses. Mihaela Prince je umrl njen sin Frank v Calif. Prepeljali so ga na pokopališče v Pueblo, kjer že počiva tudi več njegovih sorodnikov. — Umrl je tudi John Čorak, sin Francis C., ki je bolehal vse od zadnje vojne. — Po večno plačilo so odšle tudi prijateljice naše Zveze, Anna Russ in Angela Prutt (Narodova Angelca). — Dne 17. in 19. sept. sta zaporedoma umrle naše članice, Mary Barich in Johana Kastelic, ki sta bile bolne dalje časa. Lepo smo se poslovile od njih z lepo u-deležbo članic ter šopki vencev in sv. maš. Bridko občutimo izgubo nam dragih sosester. — Ravno v času ko to pišem, sem izvedela, da je umrl John Kambich, soprog naše čl. Mary K. — Le skozi temna vrata groba vrata, se naj odpre večnega življenja dom. Vsem preostalim naše globoko sožalje!
Naša tajnica, Frances Simonich, se v imenu družine lepo zahvali vsem, ki so jih tolažili ob smrti očeta Franka Rus (po domače Pastork. Hvala vsem za cvetje, sv. maše in izkazano poslednjo čast, kar jim je bilo v veliko tolažbo v uri žalosti. — Bilo je pa še toliko bolj hudo, ker je v istem času bila v bolnišnici hudo bolana mati. Zahvala tudi vsem, ki so jo obiskali in poslali cvetlice.
Zadnje poletje so v našem mestu imeli zdravniško državno konvencijo. Vsi zdravniki so zatrjevali, da kajenje povzroča raka, posebno med mladino. Ob tej priliki je bilo tudi podeljeno odlikovanje 50 letnice zdravnikovanja, našemu Slovencu, Joseph Snedec. Rojaku, ki tudi dobro slovensko govori, vsi čestitamo in želimo še mnogo let uspešnega dela v poklicu.
Kmalu bo konec leta. Bližajo se sv. božični prazniki, dnevi veselega razpoloženja za vse. Ob božičnem času še posebno izkažemo svojo ljubezen z prazničnimi voščili in darili. Da bi vse družine naših članic bile blagoslovljene z zdravjem in vso srečo tega sveta ter da bi naša SŽZ imela veliko in lepo bodočnost, to so moje srčne želje.
December je značilni mesec v naši Zvezi. Dne 19. dec. poteče 37 let odkar je bila Zveza ustanovljena, Gos-pej M. Prisland, ustanoviteljici naše SŽZ kličemo: Bog vam nakloni še mnogo zdravih in veselih let v našem krogu. In 13. decembra je rojstni dan nam vsem dobro poznane Bare Kramer iz San Francisca, Cal., ki je toliko storila za napredek naše Zveze. Njej je pripisati velik del uspeha naše SŽZ. Dne 6. okt. je umrla naša čl. Frances Russ na domu svoje hčerke Elizabeth Kovacich. Minilo je komaj mesec dni odkar je preminul njen soprog Frank. Pokojna je bila mati tajnice naše podr., Frances Simonich, ki je svojo mater skrbno negovala, v njeni dolgi in mučni bolezni. Kako veliko prijateljev je pokojna imela, je pričal njen veličastni pogreb. Njej v spomin so bile brane številne sv. maše ter darovanih je bilo veliko vencev.
Soses. Mary Paulovec žaluje smrtno izgubo soproga in očeta Gregor Paulovec, ki je tudi dalje časa bolehal in ga je smrt rešila trpljenja bolezni. Vsi sprejmite naše sožalje, saj tudi mi pridemo za njimi v večni počitek.
Naša 61. Lucile .Tesik je ponosna mamica, ker so v družini ponovno dobili sinčka. Imajo 11 otrok, ki so vsi člani naše podr. Hčerka Nancy jim je umrla v atomobilski nezgodi.
Ne vem, če so se črke povečale v Zarji, ali pa so se moje oči pomladil. Pričakujem kuharske knjige za prodajo, ker to bo lepo darilo za vse.
Bolne so Silvia Okoren, ki je zbolela prav v času ko je tudi njen soprog bil v bolnišnici; Anne Kapushin se zdravi v bolnišnici, kakor tudi Matilda Bajuk iz Walsenburga, Colo, dalje Mary Hren in Pauline Škufca.
Moje sožalje Mildred Pierce ob izgubi brata Franka Adamič iz Canon City, Colo.
Leto se pomika v zato in sam Bog ve, kdo dočaka prihodnje leto. Sprejmite moje skromno božično voščilo glavne odbornice, duhovni vodja Rev. C. Okoren, duhovni vodja naše podr., Rev-Daniel Gnidica in vse članice SŽZ.

Št. 5, Indianapolis, Ind. V imenu odbora vas vse najlepše pozdravljam in vse prav lepo vabim na našo glavno sejo, ki se bo vršila 4 nedeljo, dne 22. decembra ob 2 uri popoldne v prostorih S. N. Doma. Ker v poletju ni bilo sej, zato upam, da se boste vsaj zadnje seje v tem letu udeležile in s tem pokazale odboru, da nas je še lepo število. S seboj pa tudi pripeljite kaj novih članic, da bo več veselje med nami. Ker so naše ta mlade odbornice tako lepo napredovale v tem letu, upam, da jim boste vse šle lepo na pomoč tudi v prihodnje.
Ko boste to čitale, bo naša vrla predsednica že poročena. Bog ji izpolni vse želje, ki jih želi v zakonu ter mnogo srečnih in veselih dni. Pri Zvezi pa ji želimo mnogo uspehov pri novih članicah.
Kruta smrt nam je iztrgala iz naše srede zveste članice, Mrs. Frances Adams ter Mrs. Ana Turk. Naj jima
bo lahka ameriška gruda. Preostalim pa naše globoko sožalje.
Našim bolnim članicam želim ljubega zdravja, da bi še zopet zdrave in vesele videle na sejah. Vsem novim mladim mamicam in malčkom želim vse najboljše in upam, da jih pridružite naši Zvezi.

Št. 10, Cleveland, Ohio. Na okto-berski seji smo imele prav lepo udeležbo. Sestra Sophy Magajna je obhajala rojstni dan in nas prav lepo postregla. Prinesla je prav dober kejk in tudi za grlo je oskrbela. Imamo jo vse zelo rade, zaradi, njene vesele narave. Thanks, Sophy, and many more happy years.
Ravno ko to pišem, sem dobila sporočilo, da je naša članica A. Trepal iz Holmes Ave., bila zadeta od au-tomobila in bila zelo hudo poškodovana. Njen mož pa je ravno en dan pred nesrečo bil prepeljan iz bolnišnice domov. To je huda nesreča za dve stari osebi. Srečna sta, ker živita v hiši hčerke, ki je tudi naša članica. Vem, da bo ona lepo stregla svojim ljubim staršem. Bog daj obema ljubega zdravja, da bi še zopet spravila na noge; to jima želimo vse članice podružnice. Enako želimo ljubega zdravja vsem ostalim bolanim sestr&m.
Drage sestre, bliža se konec leta in katere dolgujete na asesmentu, prosim, da poravnate čim prej ko je mo goče, ker ob letu mora tajnica podati račune in založiti za vse, ki nimajo plačano, da gre vse lepo naprej. To je gotovo težko za tajnice, zato je želeti, da bi ji olajšale delo in skrbi s tem da bi se vse zavedale, da morajo ob koncu leta vsi zaostanki biti poravnani. To bi tudi olajšalo dobiti nove odbornice pri društvih.
Imam pa tudi veselo novico za poročati, da sta 19. oktobra praznovala Mr. in Mrs. Andre Bradach, zlato poroko. Slavnost se je pričela s sv. mašo v cerkvi Marije Vnebovzete na Holmes Ave. Zbrala se je vsa družina in se Bogu zahvalila, da jim je ohranil drage starše, da so dočakali ta dan še pri dobrem zdravju. Tudi veliko prijateljev se je udeležilo sv. maše. Slavljenca imata 3 hčere: Mrs. J. Majce, Mrs. A. Luzar in Mrs. J. Marn, šest vnukov in enega pravnuka. Po sv. maši so imeli skupno kosilo za družino in ožje sorodnike v Smith restavraciji in večerjo pri eni hčerki. Tako so lepo pjreživeli ta pomembni dan. Mr. Bradach je doma iz vasi Kompelje, fara Dobro polje.
V	Ameriko je prišel 1. 1910. Mrs. Bradach je doma iz Male vasi v isti fari ter je 1. 1913 prišla v Ameriko. Poročila sta se se istega leta na Bi-wabik. Minn. V Clevelandu sta se naselila 1. 192G. Ona je članica SŽZ

Št. 12, Milwaukee, Wis. Vabim vse članice na glavno letno sejo, ki se bo vršila dne 19. decembra ob 1 uri popoldne v cerkveni dvorani, 1028 So. 9th St. Ker je to glavna seja, zato prosimo res kar največjo udeležbo.
Na bolniškem listu imamo naslednje naše sestre; Mary Erman, Anne O-reskovich, Lena Cirei, Molly Hojnik. Josephine Martincich, Kathryn Stuller, Josephine Berginc, Mary Koropec, Hedwlg Kodrich in Josephine Seiko. Prosim, da obiskujete bolne sestre in jim tako lajšate dolge ure bolezni.
Vsem glavnim odbornicam in članicam naše Zveze želim vesel Božič in srečo v novem letu. Vsem članicam, ki obhajate rojstne dneve v mesecu decembru, želim vse najboljše. Tudi prosim, da tiste, ki so v zaostanku poravnajo svoje dolgove za asesment.

Št. 14, Euclid, Ohio. Poročilo mesečne seje z dne 5. oktobra. Prelepa jesen je za nami. Neprijetni mraz in dež sta že začela, čeprav dan naše seje ni bil brez mraza, vseeno so članice prišle v lepem številu na sejo., Tudi so zelo pridne, ker so črez leto našivale in napletle mnogo lepih stvari za naš bazar,' ki se je vršil 17. nov. I?ada bi se vsaki posebej zahvalila, toda je preveč imen. zato naj velja vsem skupaj naša naj-lepša zahvala.
Naša predsednica, Mary Okicki prosi, da obiskujete bolne članice, ker jih je vedno dosti ter so vesele obiska. Mrs. Klun, ki se je vedno rada udeleževala sej, je sedaj na bolniški postelji. Če morete jo obiščite v prostem času, ker vam bo hvaležna. Njej in vsem bolnim sestram želimo hitrega okrevanja.
Pri Gregoričevih so zopet kupili punčko po imenu Bernarčka, ki je že sedmi otrok v družini. Mlada mamica je hčerka članice Mrs. Amalije lJovirk in soproga iz 207 St. v Euc-lidu. Naše čestitke na obe strani.
Bližajo se nam Božični prazniki, zato želim vsem, da bi jih obhajali v veselju in božjem miru.
Ko to pišem smo zelo zaposlene s pripravami za bazar, a ko boste brale te vrstice bo že za nami, ter bo poročilo o izidu sledilo naslednji mesec.
Omeniti moram, da sta v oktobru obhajala zlato poroko v cerkvi sv. Kristine, naša članica Mrs. Vera Troha in njen soprog s prijatelji pri slovesni sv. maši s petjem. Vera je ne samo naša dolgoletna članica, ampak tudi vedno rada pomaga pri društvu in letos smo jo tudi izbrale kot dobro kuharico, ki nam za vsako sejo pripravi prigrizek in tudi na naših prireditvah zastopa kuhinjo. Želimo ji še mnogo srečnih in zadovoljnih let, da bi nama tudi v bodoče bila v pomoč.
Mesec November je bil posvečen dušam naših umrlih; preds. je ob koncu seje molila za vse naše pokojne sestre.

Št. 15, Newburgh, Ohio. Ko boste čitale ta dopis, bomo ze v mesecu decembru, zato vabim članice, da pridete na sejo 11. decembra, ki bo glavna seja. Potrebno je, da se pomenimo o več važnih zadevah in izvolimo novi odbor za leto 19G4. Torej, na svidenje ob pol osmi uri zvečer v S. N. D. na E. 80 St.
V bolnici se nahaja Verona Škufca. Vse ji želimo ljubega zdravja, kakor tudi vsem ostalim bolnim sestram. Želimo jim, da bi vse zdrave in zadovoljne obhajale Božične praznike in srečno Novo leto.
V oktobru smo obhajale G mesečne rojstne dneve: Frances Novak, Helen Mirtel, Angela Stražar, Mary Rožanc, Mary N»vak, Rozi Vatovec, Frances Dindich, Rozi Jeric, Jennie Resnik, in Jennie Tekavčič..
Vsaka je nekaj prinesla in tako je bilo vsega zadosti. Bilo za piti in jesti da smo vse dolgo v noč prepevale. Hvala vsem članicam za tako lepo udeležbo na seji. Srčna hvala Verona Škufca, ki je darovala v blagajno.

G.	oktobra smo praznovale 35 letnico odkar je bila ustanovljena podružnica naše Zeze. G. župnik Father Setni-čar so brali sv. mašo, katere se je udeležilo lepo število članic in pristopile k sv. obhajilu. Nato smo odšle v farno dvorano, kjer so nam mlada dekleta pripravile zajutrek. Vsega je bilo v izobilju. Mrs. Mary Petrlch je darovala prav lepi cake, ki ga je sama napravila. Prav lepa hvala. Mary! Po zajutreku je bil kratek program. Obiskale so nas tudi sestre iz Sheboygana in Milwaukee. Hvala vsem, ki so pripomogle, da je slavnost tako lepo potekla.
I^eto gre h koncu in čas prihaja ko se bo treba udeležiti vsaj zadnje seje v letu, ki se bo vršila tretjo nedeljo, dne 15. decembra točno ob 2 uri popoldne v farni dvorani, soba št. 3. Vse ste vljudno vabljene, saj letne seje so vedno važne, ker se voli odbor in napravijo važni sklepi za bodoče delo v korist Zveze. Izmenjale bomo tudi božična darila, zato ste prošene, da vsaka prinese darilo v vrednosti za 1 dolar.
Ko se leto nagiba h koncu in se bližajo prelepi božični prazniki ki so polni nebeškega veselja, ker nas spominjajo na rojstvo našega Godpo-da, Jezusa Kristusa. Ta dan praznujemo z veliko ljubeznijo in tudi z molitvijo za vse tiste, ki Boga ne poznajo in ne častijo.
Poročati moram žalostno novico, da je za srčno boleznijo nepričakovano preminul dobro poznani soprog Josephine Nimmer (prej Schlosar). Herb Nimmer je umrl dne 26. sept. in ta novica je nas vse močno pretresla, ker je bil vedno prijaznega in prijateljskega značaja. Družina ga zelo pogreša. Za njim žaluje žena, dve hčerki in Mrs. Schlosar ter drugi sorodniki. Naj počiva v mini. Žalujočim naše iskreno sožalje.
Vsem želim srečne in blagoslovljene božične praznike ter srečno novo leto, da bi nam Bog dal svoj blagoslov pri delu v letu 1964.

Zopet poročam žalostno vest, da smo izgubile članico, Margaret Hviala. Dosegla je lepo starost 83 let. Bog ji daj večni mir in pokoj in večna luč ji naj sveti. Družini pa naše iskreno sožalje. — V zadnjih treh mesecih smo izgubile kar 3 naše dobre članice.
Prosila bi vse sestre, da bi se udeležile naše glavne seje, kjer bomo imele tudi izmenjavo božičnih daril.
ZAHVALA
Elm Grove, Wis. V nedeljo 6. oktobra, je podružnica št. 17 na West Allisu praznovala 35-letnico obstoja Članice so se v velikem številu zbrale k cerkvenem opravilu, kakor tudi k zajuterku, ki je sledil. Našega pomembnega dneva so se u-deležile tudi odbornice sheboygan-ske podružnice z ustanoviteljico Zveze Marie Prisland, zakar jim najlepša zahvala.
Po zajuterku sino imele kratek, pa prisrčen program. Duhovni vodja podružnice Father Setničar nam je lepo čestital, predsednica Marion Marolt in glavna podpredsednica Marie Floryan sta pa podali zgodovino podružnice, ustanovnim članicam prisrčno čestitali ter jim v imenu podružnice poklonili lepe spominčke. Mene, kot ustanoviteljico podružnice, sta počastili še posebej z lepim darilom ,ki mi bo v veden spomin. Pozabili nista tndi ostalih ustanovnih članic. Vsaka je od njih prejela še posebno darilo.
To jutro mi je uhajal spomin na prejšna leta naše podružnice. Od začetka je bilo treba res prigovarjati, da se je podružnica ustanovila, ker je bilo pač nekaj novega imeti žensko organizacijo, potem je pa šlo vse lepo in v redu naprej. Vsa leta mojega predsedstva, kakor tudi sedaj, nismo na nobeni seji i-mele kakega prepira, niti najmajn-šega prerekanja. Članice so bile dobre do podružnice, spoštljive in prijazne do odbornic; upoštevale so dobro delo. Zato se iz srca zahvalim vsem, ki so vsa leta z menoj so-delovale ter mi pri mojem delu pomagale. Brez pomoči članic, ne inore najboljša predsednica biti uspešna.
Torej, iskrena zahvala za spominčke, za prijaznost in naklonjenost vsem odbornicam in članicam naše podružnice. Naj vas Bog blagoslovi z zdravjem in srečo!

PRIPRAVITE POT GOSPODU
SE je v pripravah na božične praznike. Časopisni oglasi, trgovine, pošiljanje voščil, vse oznanja božični prazniki so pred durmi. Iskanje darov za obdarovanje družinskih članov, zbiranje darov za veterane, za bolnike, za uboge, je pri večini ljudi glavna skrb, ki jo nalaga priprava za božič. Ljudje se popolnoma drugače razpoloženi kakor sicer.	V vseh je	izraz pričakovanja,	nekaj	posebnega,	novega čudovitega	do-
živetja. Kaj pa naj bi bilo tisto, kar ljudje pričakujejo, si sami ne morejo razložiti.
Neki Kitajec je pred nekaj leti prišel z letalom prvikrat v Ameriko ravno za božične praznike. Poslovna pot ga je vodila v Chicago. Na cestah je videl prerivanje ljudi in opazil naglico s katero so hiteli na vse strani. Vsakdo je nosil s seboj enega ali več paketov. Iz radovednosti je stopil k policaju, da bi poizvedel, kaj vse to pomeni. Policaj ga je začudeno pogledal in rekel: “Ali gospod ne ve, da smo pred božičnimi praz niki? “Kaj pa je božič?” ga je vprašal tujec. Policaj je napravil velike oči in rekel: “No kaj takega. lo je vendar	praznik	otrok,	praznik obdarovanja." 1 Zakaj	pa
ravno ta dan?” je bilo nadaljne vprašanje. “Kaj pa pomeni ta praznik ljudem?” Policaj, ki ni vedel odgovora	na	to	je	jezno	odgovoril:	“To boste zvedeli	pri
drugem, sem že tako predolgo zadržal promet."
Tako nevednih kot je ta policaj je velika večina ljudi. Božični prazniki jim ne pomenijo več kot dnevi dobrega trgovanja, praznik otroškega veselja in obdarovanja prijateljev. Nekateri, ki še nekaj mislijo, se sprarujejo odkod ta navada. Toda to vprašanje postavljajo bolj zaradi velikih izdatkov kakor pa iz potrebe po pravem odgovoru. Tudi mnogi kristjani nimajo boljšega odgovora na ta praznik kakor večina ljudi. Nejasno slutnjo, da ta praznik pomeni še kaj drugega kakor samo praznik otrok, gladko porineje ob stran. Kar čudno se jim zdi, kakor da ni res, če slišijo, da je božič obnova Kristusovega prihoda na svet. Misel na obnovo tega dogodka je rodila praznik. Kristus pa je prinesel na svet tudi misel o bratstvu in dobri volji med vsemi ljudmi. Ker je bila nekaterim misel o Kristusu in njegovi dobroti do človeštva nadležna, so se oklenili misli o bratstvu in jo porabili v svoje trgovske svrhe.
Osrednja misel naše božične priprave bi morala biti: božič je praznik rojstva Gospodovega. V skrbi, kaj bomo dali svojim zemeljskim prijateljem ne pozabimo na božjega prijatelja. Ko pripravljamo vse potrebno za očeta in mater, brate in sestre, prijatelje in znance, ne pozabimo na Kristusa. Darovi s katerimi bomo Kristusu ustregli, so dobra dela. Bogu se moremo prikupiti le s čednostmi. Bog bo vesel duše, ki potrpi zaradi njega, duše, ki izpolnjuje njegovo voljo, duše, ki dela zaradi njega in zanj brez ozira na to ali je ljudem všeč ali ne.

Št. 20. Joliet, III. Globoko sožalje naši tajnici, Miss Prances Gaspich, ob izgubi njene sestre Mayme. Pokojna je bila rojena 9. febr. 1901 v Jolletu. Ob smrti je bila 62 let stara. K večnemu počitu je bila položena na fara-nem pokopališču poleg očeta in brata. Pohajala je vnašo domačo šolo sv. Jožefa in nato je bila dolgo vrsto let zaposlena v Chicagu. Poleg Frances, zapušča mater, tri sestre in tri brate. Ena sestra ter brat, ki je zdravnik, živita že več let v Caliiorniji. Naj v miru počiva.
Iskrene čestitke Mr. in Mrs. Jos. F. Bostanche iz Plainfielda, ki sta dobila sinčka. Ses. Theresa Muhich, naša vratarica je ponosna stara mama.
Čestitke tudi Mr. in Mrs. Walter A. Lustik iz Russel St., ob rojstvu sina.
Mrs. Jean Težak je tudi na bolniški postelji. Tajnica ji je poslala kartico z željo k hitremu ozdravljemu. Enako vsem drugim članicam, ki so bolne, bodisi v bolnišnici, ali na domu.
Približal se je mesec december ko praznujemo božične praznike. Želim vsem članicam in njihovim družinam, da bi ta praznik obhajali v zdravju in sreči. Naj mali Jezus v jaslicah blagoslovi vaše družine.
Ob priliki gostovanja Slovenskega okteta iz Slovenije, je iz Jolieta peljal udeležence na koncert v Chicagu, velik bus in več automobilov. Med njimi je bilo mnogo naših članic. Velikanska dvorana Morton Višje šole je bila natrpana udeležencov iz vseh krajev in okolice Chicaga. Zelo je bilo vredno biti navzoč na tem koncertu, ki je bil tako lepo podan. Vsi smo se vrnili domov zadovoljni v srcu, da smo slišali našo domačo pesem, prinešeno o-sebno iz domovine.

Št. 19, Eveleth, Minn. Vljudno vabim vse članice na glavno sejo v četrtek 12. decembra ob pol osmih zvečer. Jaz bom v dvorani ob sedmih, da lahko plačate asesment pred sejo. Apeliram na tiste, ki ste zaostale s plačilom, da poravnate, ker moram knjige imeti vredu pred koncem leta. Lepo bi bilo, če se vsaj enkrat v letu udeležite sej, izjema naj bi bila je bolezen ali pa nujno delo.Na dnevnem redu bo volitev odbora; na tej seji je čas, da si izberete odbor, ki bo vsem v zadovoljstvo uradoval. Sklepale bomo tudi o Zvezinih pravilih tikajočih se podružnice in poslovanja v prihodnjem letu. Po seji bo serviran prigrizek s kavo, na kar sledi petje božičnih pesmi.
Poročati imam žalostno vest, da je smrt iztrgala iz naše srede dve zvesti članici. Sestra Frances Fink je bolehala delj časa in dne 28. oktobra je odšla v večnost, kjer ni trpljenja. Zapustila je sinova Frank in Louis ter hčer Mary, poročena Lushine, sestro Anna Kastelc ter sedem pravnukov.
Ni minil teden po tej smrti, ko nas je zapustila Jennie Vrhovnik in to ravno na Vseh svetnikov dan 1. novembra. Pokojna Jennie, kakor pokojna sestra Fink, sta bili požrtvovalni članici ter vedno radi pomagali pri odboru in na vseli prireditvah, Obe pokojni boste pogrešani med svojimi sorodniki in med sestrami Zveze, kakor tudi med prijatelji. Pogreba sta pričala, da ste bili obe pri vseh priljubljeni. Vsem preostalim izrekamo globoko sožalje. Pokojnima sestrama pa naj bo Bog dober plačnik za mnogotera dobra dela na tem svetu.
Ob koncu leta se želim lepo zahvaliti vsem članicam, za vaše zvesto sodelovanje za dobrobit podružnice in Zveze. Vsem bolnim želim zdravje in srečo, da bi praznovale praznike v ve-
selju med svojimi. Sestra Sterle je prestala težko operaciji in sedaj se zdravi na domu, kjer ji pridno strežejo. Frances je bolniška sestra v University bolnišnici in Mary pa v Virginia bolnišnici. Tako sestra Sterle dobi najboljšo postrežbo po izurjenih hčera. V bolnišnici se nahajati sestri Strahan in Sulantic, sestra Habjan se pa zdravi na domu. V bolnišnici je tudi mož od sestre Jerome in mož od sestre Udovich. Počasi okreva tudi sestra Kaps, ki je srečno prestala operacijo in tudi njej pridno strežejo hčerke in vnukinje. Sestra Drobnich se sedaj zdravi na domu in isto sestra Gornik, ki je že več mesecev v bolniški postelji ter ji pridno streže sin in snaha. Sestra Steblaj je nesrečno padla in si zlomila roko in iste vrste nesreča je doletela tudi sestro Filipovich. Sestra Ulesich je bila tudi v bolnišnici in sedaj se zdravi na domu. Ako sem kateri slučaj bolezni izpustila mi oprostite. Vsem bolnim želimo ljubo zdravje! Naj vas novorojeno Dete blagoslovi in podeli hitro okrevanje.
V Nurses Home za ostarele se nahaja sestra Skriner in to v Evelethu in sestra Lustik v Aurora bolnišnici. Obiščite ju ob priliki!

Cleveland, Ohio. — Kmalu bomo v času leta, v katerem je najlepši praznik. To je božični praznik, katerega se veseli vse, staro in mlado. Že danes vam vsem skupaj želim, da bi ta prinesel zdravja in sreče ter vas vse blagoslovil z vsemi dobrotami za boljšo bodočnost!
V	naši sredi imamo veliko članic, ki bo v častitljivi starosti in mnoge ne morejo z doma. Naša želja je, naj bi vse našle tolažbo in vzpodbude v molitvi ter mir in blagodetje po kateremu vsi hrepenimo.
Malo kasno je, a vseeno so naša voščila za čestitke k rojstnemu dnevu iskrena in topla! Torej sestra Julia Makše z 1187 E. 60 St. je zadnji mesec prekoračila svoj 78. rojstni dan. Še na mnoga leta!
Mrs. Mary Spelic in hči Albina ste nas zelo prijetno presenetile ob
Št. 24, La Salle, III. — Leto gre k zatonu in bliža se nam zopet starka zima. Ko to pišem že diši po snegu. Najlepše vas vabim na decembersko sejo, da se gotovo udeležite v najlepšem številu, da boste izvolile odbor po vaši volji.
Prosim tudi vse tiste, ki ste v zaostanku z asesmentom, da bi poravnale, ker jaz ne morem hoditi po hišah in naša blagajna je prazna. Za tiste, ki ne bodo imele plačano, ne bom mogla poslati, ker jaz ne morem zalagati svojega denarja. Upam, da se vse vidimo na seji. Vsaj enkrat, to je za glavno sejo bi pa že prišle.
Ko bodo te vrstice zagledale beli dan, bo že december, zato vam voščim vesele božične praznike in da bi zdrave dočakale srečno Novo leto.

priliki velikega bazarja, katerega smo priredile podružnice Slov. ženske zveze v št. vidski šolski dvorani. Podarile ste celo vrsto krasnih vijolic v lončkih, katere gojijo same na svojem domu v Strongsville-u. Veseli so jih bili tudi oni, ki so jih pokupili, kar je prineslo tudi nekaj v naše blagajno. Žal nam je bilo, ko smo zvedele
o	bolezni sestre Antonije Mihevec. [Jpamo, da ko bere te vrstice, se že veseli ljubega zdravja.
Tudi naše Molly Deželan se večkrat spominjamo. Kakor znano, je bila že pred več časa v težki avtni nesreči, v kateri sta bila ranjena tudi njen soprog in sin, sicer ne tako hudo, kakor ona. Bila je že nekajkrat v bolnišnici, upamo pa, da se bo toliko pozdravila, da bo med nami na naši božnici v ponedeljek, 9. dec.
Vse članice opozarjam, da bo naša letna seja v ponedeljek, 9. decembra. Pričetek bo točno ob 7. uri v navadnih šolskih prostorih. Vabljene ste prav vse, katere le morete, da pridite. Volile bomo uradnice za prihodnje leto, pa tudi druge važne zadeve v dobrobit podružnice bodo na dnevnem redu. Pridite vse in pomagajte s svojimi nasveti—naj bo naša podružnica med vodilnimi.
Še nekaj, ne pozabite prinesti na letno sejo majhno darilce v vrednosti $1.00, ker po seji bomo izmenjavale darila in se po običaju razveselile na božičnici.
Bližamo se koncu leta in ne bi bilo prav, da se ne spomnimo onih, ki so skozi celo storile toliko dobrega za podružnico. V prvi vrsti hvala blagajničarki Mary Otoničar, ki je bila vedno ob strani v pomoč in s nasveti vaši "dumkof.”
Enako hvala tudi predsednici Pauline Stampfel in zapisnikarici Dorothy Strniša ter Vickie Faletič in Stetli Konorc za dobrosrčnost.
Skozi leto smo imeli veliko pri' jetnih časov. Imamo članice, ki see vedno pripravljeni pomagati in daro--vati razno pecivo ter druge dobrote-ko imamo zabavo po seji ali sestanek. Vsem tem velja topla zahvala za velikodušnost. Naj ob tej priliki omenim le nekaj teh članic: Mary Otoničar, Julia Bohar, Frances Nemanich, Molly Deželan, Vickie, Paula, Dorothy, Millie, Mirni Snyder, Stella, Fay Rolich, Agnes Oster, Mary Kolegar, Jennie in Pauline Strnad. Pred zaključkom pa želim še enkrat opomniti vse članice, skrbite, da bo vaš asesment za leto 19G3 poravnam do zaključka leta. Zadnji dan za pobiranje asesmenta ta mesec bo na 23. decembra v šolski dvorani, od 4:30 do 8 zvečer.
Do danes, ko to pišem, mi je žal, da smo v tem letu izgubile radi smrti IG članic, ki počivajo večne spanje. Medtem, ko se vsi pripravljamo na božične praznovanje, ne pozabimo naših pokojnih. Ohranimo jih v častnem spominu!
Vam vsem kakor tudi vašim družinam želim vesele in zdrave božične in novoletne praznike. Bodite zmerne v vsem, kar delate, da boste uživale dobrote in veselje tega življenja še na mnoga leta. Prizori iz lepo uspelega bazarja clevelandskih podružnic. Slikce nam je poslala gl. preds. Tončka Turek, ki je bila načelnica tega dneva.
Na gorni sliki je naša gl. nadzornica, Vicki Faletič pred bogato razstavljeno mizo podr. št. 25.
Stojnica podr. št. 41 v oskrbi sester Anna Kozel, Anna Rebolj in Anna Skok. Članice so se pridno potrudile, da je bila velika izbira krasnih ročnih del.
Mlade članice podr. št. 50 so s svojo umetnostjo pokazale, da marljivo sledijo vzgledom starejših sosester. Na sliki so Sophie Zagorc, Louise Vovko, Sophie Kaplan, Rita Jerina, Theresa Komat in Bernice Somrak.
Bazar, modna revija in prodaja pe-viva, ki se je vršila 13. okt., je prav dobro uspela. Naše pridne kuharice in pomočnice poti vodstvom Mrs. Mary Otoničar so skozi celi dan pekle in kuhale, da so zadovoljile posetnike. Vseh vrst peciva in rezanice so darovale članice podružnice št. 10. 15, 18, 21, 25, 32, 41, 50 in 73. Izborne torte in pecivo je darovala naša gl. preds. Tončka Turek. Podpredsednica skupnih podružnic Mrs. Pauline Stampfel je darovala 3 krasne predpasnike, Mrs. Mary Komidar, članica št. 10 je tudi darovala lep predpasnik in krasne prevleke za blazine.
Za modno revijo so vse oskrbele gl. preds. Tončka Turek, Frances Sietz in Carol Traven. V modni reviji je nastopila tudi naše Tončka Turek in se je prav dobro postavila.
Zelo dobro izvežbani sestrici Cooke, to sta vnukinji ses. Anne Godlar, sta nastopile v baton twirling (vrtenje palčic), sta vsem zelo ugajale. Nastopile so tudi naše deklice vežbalne-ga krožka v baton twirling in prostih vajah. Prav dobro so se pa postavile dekleta Marie Prisland Cadets, ki so bile aktivne pred 30 leti. Izvež-bale so se, da bi presenetile Mrs. Prisland, katero smo povabile za to priliko, pa je žal prišla zapreka, da
Št. 31, Gilbert, Minn. — Čas je, da
se oglasimo iz našega mesta, tako da boste videle, da smo še pri življenu. Ženske smo vedno zaposlene in še posebno sedaj ko se staramo in nam delo zaostaja. Res škoda, da nismo več mlade, kakor pravi pesem: Lepa je mladost, pa ne pride več naz'aj.
Letos smo imele lepo poletje in prijazno toplo jesen, kakršne Minnesota še ne pomni.
Zadnji mesec sta obhajala zlato poroko Mr. In Mrs. Frank Borauchan. Mary je naša dolgoletna članica. Bog naj vaju ohrani še mnogo let med nami v zdravju in zadovoljstvu!
Naša fara ima lepo novo čerkev, ki bo v kratkem dogotovljena. Vsa čast našemu župniku Rev. John Kaučiču za požrtvovalno delo, ki ga vršijo med nami. V sedmih letih so prihranili $200,000. To je lepa svota za tako faro, kakor ja naša. Bog Vam naj da zdravja, da boste še mnogo let delovali med nami.
Naša podružnica je pred leti bila zelo aktivna, a sedaj vse gre bolj po časi. Ta starim Be ne ljubi, a mlade se ne morejo odločiti. Vse pa ste lepo prošene, da pridete na našo glavno sejo, ki se bo vršila drugo sredo v mesecu, dne 11. decembra. Imele bomo tudi volitve in po seji bo prigrizek. Pridite vse! Kako se naredi odlične s trudi je je pokazala mlada kuharica iz Geneva.
O., Mrs. Vida Furlan. Fine torte sta pa demonstrirale dve mladi deklici, ki bosta brez dvoma dobri kuharici čez nekaj let. Naša agilna tajnica. Frances Novak, je bila zelo zaposlena s srečnimi listki in s prodajo vstopnic, pomagala ji je Mrs. Stampfel. Pri prodaji peciva je bila pa najbolj pridna Mrs. Mary Debevec, preds. št. 41, pomagale so ji tudi člandce raznih podružnic. Vsaki posebej ln vsem skupaj najprisrčnejša hvala. Iskrena hvala vsem, katere ste se potrudile pri prodaji srečnih listkov. Nagrade so dobile: prvo F. Korencic, drugo N. F. Jones, tretjo Frances Gradlsher, četrto Marty Mirtell.

Št. 32, Euclid, Ohio. — Dolgo smo
imeli lepo vreme, a sedaj je pa že burja pripihala ter nam oznanja starko zimo. Ko boste brale te vrstice, bodo tudi že blizu božični prazniki. Moja želja je, da bi jih vse članice kar najlepše obhajale.
Dne 19. oktobra sta obhajala 36 letnico poroke pri sv. maši, John ki Barbara Baron. Ona je bila več let v našem odboru. Čestitkam njunega sorodstva se pridružujemo tudi mi, z željami za srečo in zadovoljstvo še ua mnoga leta. Bog vaju živi!
Iskreno sožalje izrekamo naši zapisnikarici, Ann Tekavec ob izgubi ljubljenega očeta, Johna Coz iz Bveletha, Milin., ki je umrl 10. okt. Naj v miru počiva.
Veseli smo, da je naša članica Prances Korenčič dobila pi’vo nagrado na bazarju skupinah ohijskih podružnic. Dobila je televizijo. Ona vedno rada pomaga naši blagajni. Sedaj je darovala v ročno blagajno $5, za kar ji velja prisrčna hvala.

Št. 33, Duluth, Minn.— Na novem-berski seji smo se prav dobro imele. Članice so pripravile dobro in okusno večerjo in udeležba je bila velika. Mislim, da so prav vse, ki morejo hoditi, prišle. Vidi se, da mora biti še kaj
drugega, ne samo seja, da privabi članice skupaj.
Pri naši podružnici imamo več takih Slanic, ki ne morejo same hoditi ter preživljajo dolgočasne dneve v hiši. zato je lepo če se jih spomnimo z obiski, ali vsaj po telefonu, da jim je bolj kratko časno.
V tem mesecu decembru bomo aopet volile odbor ,zato upam, da boste vse prišle in si izvolile odbor, ki bo vsem v zadovoljnost.
Vse članice, ki še do'gujete za Zarjo, prosim, da poravnate v decembru 25c. Nekatere so že plačale za leto 1964. Vsa čast jim!

V začetku šolskega leta 19G3—G4 je b'l izvoljen za predsednika svojega razreda, ki bo graduiral v letu 19G4 in je eden naj več jih po številu v celem mestu, Joe De L,illo, sin Josepha in Ann De LiTla 1726 E. 33rd St. Njegova mati je Slanica naše podr.., kakor tudi stiara mati Mrs. Louise Mahnič, je zapisnikarica podružnice že 14 let. Dne 30. oktobra na moj rojstni dan so se članice Gospodinjskega kluba S. N. Doma, ki so z malo izjemo tudi članica naše podružnice SŽZ, zbrale v lepem številu ter mi priredile lep party. Imele smo se prav po gosposko, ksr so članice prinesle vsake vrste dobrot, tudi žlahtne kapljice ni manjkalo. Za spomin so mi kupile

Line 13. oktobra sta slavila 40 letnico zakonskega življenja Mr. in Mrs. Frank Tomažič v krogu njune družino in ožjih sorodnikov. Slavje so pričeli s sv. mašo v fari Sv. Williama v Euclid, O. Kosilo so imeli pri hčerki Eleonore Stražišar. Tudi vse članice podr. jima želimo, da bi bila zdrava in vesela še mnogo srečnih dni, da bi dočakala še zlato in diamantno poroko. Bog vaju blagoslovi še v bodočem življenju!
Zadnje čase so postale stare mamice Mrs. A. J. Perko, R. Šuster, C. Skocaja, M. Blatnik, C. Basa p1! prastare mati. Naše čestitke staršem, babicam in mlademu naraščaju. O-prostite, ker prihajajo čestitke nekoliko pozno, so pa tem bolj iskrene.
Vsem bolnim članicam želimo ljubega zdravja. Žal nam je, da se ne morejo udejstvovati društvenih aktivnosti.
Sedaj pa še o naši večerji, ki je bila 19. oktobra. V prvi vrsti gre zahvala naši državni predsednici za Ohio in Mich., Ella Starin, ki nas je posetila s predsednico št. 14, Mary Debevec. Iskrena hvala obema. Hvala našim kuharicam A. Kresevic in R. Simončič, ki so vse tako okusno pripravile. Pomočnice se bile: Agnes Rus, Mary Rusjan, Jennie Praznik, R. Shuster, C. Skocaj, C. Sustersic, J. Cvelber in še druge, pa mi imena niso znana. Bila je velika udeležba in ko so članice videle, da je potrebna pomoč, so šle na delo. Hvala vsem! Pridno se stregle gostom:	J.	Gerk,	A. Št. 54, Warren, Ohio. — V mesecu novembru se cerkev spominja svojih rajnih vernih duš. Tudi naše misli gredo v čase, katere smo preživele pri svojih starših. Ko pomislimo koliko sorodnikov, prijateljev in znancev se je ločilo od tega sveta in koliko aktivnih sester je izgubila naša SŽZ. Spominjajmo se jih v molitvah, saj bomo šle prej ali slej tudi me za njimi. Smo v času praznikov in zelo pomembni med njimi je tudi Zahvalni dan, ko smo se v krogu naših družin zahvalili Bogu za vse dobrote, katere prejemamo v naši ljubi Ameriki.
Na oktoberski soji smo imele zelo lepo udeležbo, ravno tako je bilo v septembru. Lahko bi bila vsaka seja taka. Po zadnji seji smo igrale karte, ki so sedaj precej v modi in da se bodo vse naučile teh iger bomo še naprej nadaljevale, ker mlajše ni majo tako rade pokrivanje številk.
Počastile smo 3 sestre, ki so letos ozirome lani praznovale 25 letnice poroke. To so: Victorija Žuga, ki je u-stanovna članica, Elsie Persin, ki je tudi kot mlada dekle pristopila in Mary Žuga. Vsem želimo še mnogo let srečnega zakonskega življenja. Podružnica je vsaki poklonila lep dar. Imele smo tudi izvrsten lunch. Hvala vsem, ki ste prinesle na obe seji pecivo in druge dobrote, da smo se res dobro imele. Millie Habich je spekla krasen cake, katerega smo bile vse deležne.
Na seji smo sklenile, da za božičnico napravimo “cover dish”. Prinesite s aeboj tudi svoj pribor. Imele bomo izmenjavo daril. Tudi otrok ne bomo pozabile, samo Miklavža bomo letos opustile. Seja se vrši ob C uri zvečer. to je dne 12. decembra.
V	novembru je praznovala naša gl. gl. tajnica Albina svoj rojstni dan. Naj ji da ljubi Bog še za naprej zdravja in sreče, da bi še do!go delovala za Zvezo. Malo prej pa je naša vrla u-rednice C. Leskovar imela svoj dan. Ona in njen soprog Ludvik, kakor berem v časopisju, se zelo trudita za slovensko stvar v Chicagu. Želim jima obilo uspeha in božjega blagoslova in vsa čast jima.
Naj omenim, da bo moja sestra Carolyn Smuke obhajala 75 letnico rojstva. V življenju je dosti pretrpela, dvakrat vdova, mati 10 otrok, eden je bli ubit v rudniku v Utah, kjer so prej živeli. — Mrs. Shine bo pa 80 let. mlada v dec. Še na mnoga leta!
Vesele Božične praznike želim vsen gl. odbornicam, duhovnemu vodji in vsem članicam ter srečno Novo leto.

Št. 55, Girard, Ohio. Na oktoberski seji je bila lepa udeležba. Želim, da bi se vsak mesec snidle v tako lepem številu. Poročano je bilo glede sv. maše za žive in rajne članice naše podružnice, 23. nov. To imamo v navadi že nekaj let. Mrs. Theresa 1-ozier je vzela rezervacijo za Communion breakfast, ki je bil Z. nov.
ko smo se pridružile drugim skupinam naše župnije Sv. Roze.
Na decemberski seji bomo imele Gift Exchange, izmenjavo daril.
V	South Side Hospital se nahaja Mrs. Virginia Bestic. Želimo Ji hitrega zdravja, da se kmalu vrne k svoji dnižini.
Mrs. Richard Juvančič, Mrs. Nettie Juvančič in Mrs. Frances Juvančič so nam pripravile okusni refreshment.
Igrale smo priljubljene igre in dobitkov sta bili deležni: Mrs. Barbara Umek ter Mrs. Mary Nigut.

Št. 71, Strabane, Pa. Dne 14 avg. je umrla naša dolgoletna članica, Mary Sterniša v starosti 72 let. Doma je bila iz vasi Misac iz Gorenjske. Zapušča moža, dva sinova, eno hčer in več vnukov. Naj v miru počiva.
Naša zapisnikarica, ses. Mary Kocjan je prejela žalostno vest iz Smyrne Beach, Florida, da je njen brat Joe Rezovar dne 29. avg. nagloma umrl in pred ti meseci ji je umrl brat Tony v Clevelandu. Pokojni zapušča 2 hčerke. Doma je bil iz Mime peči na Dolenjskem. Iskreno sožalje družini.
Vljudno vabim vse članice, da se udeležite letne seje, ki se bo vršila 11. dec. v navadnih prostorih ob 7 uri zvečer.

Št. 77, Pittsburgh, Pa. Po dolgem
času se zopet oglasim v našem društvenem glasilu, Zarja. Naše seje, ki so bile prekinjene poleti, so se zopet pričele, zadnjega oktobra. Želim, da bi se članice udeleževale sej kolikor mogoče v polnem številu. Ker je naša podr. majhna in, ker imamo precej članic, ki niso pri najboljšem zdravju, vem da je težko pričakovati večje udeležbe.
Vse članice podr. št. 77, SŽZ vabim na letno sejo, ki se bo vršila dne 12. dec. točno ob 8 uri zvečer v običajnih prostorih. Prosim, da se seje u-deležite vse članice, ker bo to zadnja v tem letu, bo zelo važna in je vaša navzočnost potrebna, ker se moramo skupno pogovoriti kaj in kako se bo delovalo v prihodnjem letu. Rešiti moramo več važnih stvari v dobrobit vas vseh.
Isti večer bomo imele tudi Božičnico in izmenjavo daril (grab bag). Skozi vse leto smo bile radodarne naši blagajni, ali letos nas bo pa blagajna pogostila, Ne zamudite te lepe gostije. Čim več nas bo, tem več božičnega veselja bo med nami.
Ker se konec leta zelo hitro približuje, je naša dolžnost, da poravnamo naš dolg pri podružnici.
Vsem bolnim članicam želim ljubega zdravja. Članicam podružnice,
ZVEZIN DAN IN DRŽ. KONVENCIJA ZA PA. LEPO USPELE
Konvencija za državi Pennsylvania in New York, se je vršila 6. oktobra v Strabane, Pa. pod pokroviteljstvom podr. št. 71.
Bilo je krasno vreme in udeležba je bila velika. Glavna predsednica Mrs. Turek, je pripeljala velik bus članic iz Clevelanda. Ustavile so se Pri cerkvi Sv. Petra v Canonsburgu in pristale pri sv. maši, ki je bila darovana ob 11 uri. Potem smo šle v KSKJ dvorano v Strabane. Z njimi so bili tudi Mr. Turek, Mr. Deklava in Mr. Želodec, ki sta igrala na harmoniko. Poseben bus je prišel tudi iz Pittsburgha in tretji iz Universal. Enako so prišle članice iz Verone in Oakmonta, z avtomobili so prišle iz Presto, Pa. in Meadow Lands, Pa.
Ob 2:30 pop. se je pričela seja. Mrs. Klemenčič je prečitala zapisnik zadnje seje, ki je bil sprejet. Ona je bila ponovno izvoljena za zapisnikarico zborovanja. Nato je spregovorila gl. preds. Mrs. Turek, ki je lepo govorila v korist Zveze in za prihodnjo konvencijo ter predkonvenčno kampanjo.
Iskrena zahvala velja vsem članicam in odbornicam, ki so imele mnogo dela, da je bil obisk tako lep. Prisrčna hvala gl. tajnici za poslane čestitke in vsem podružnicam, ki so bile zastopane in to so naslednje: št. 26, 71, 90, 91, 96 in 106. Žal ne vem za števila Clevelandskih udeleženk. Vsekakor pa sem bila zelo vesela, da so nas prišli pogledati v Strabane, Mrs. Otoničar.
Še enkrat iskrena hvala Mr. in Mrs. Turek, dalje Mrs. Ella Starin, ohijska državna predsednica, hvala Frances Eosenbergar in Mrs. Peltz za lepo petje in Harry Lavrich za igranje na harmoniko.
Posebno lepa zahvala stoloravnatelju, Mr. John Devec. Enako prisrčna hvala našim pridnim kuharicam in kelnaricam in vsem, ki so darovale pecivo in na kakršen koli način pripomogle k take lepo uspelemu dnevu.

Št. 84, New York, N. Y. Poročati imam žalostno vest, da smo v enem tednu izgubiie kar dve članici. Dne
13.	septembra je umrla Ana Alex, stara 64 let. Pred dvema leta sta z možem tukaj prodala hišo in si kupila dom na deželi, kjer imata hčerki Mary Paulich in Jennie Golja svoje farme. Mož je bolehal že več let in zato sta želela biti bližje svojih domačih. Prišla je smrt ter ugrabila življenje najprvo dobri ženi in dva tedna zatem pa še moža. Vsaka hčerka je skrbela za enega od staršev skozi bolezen. Z mojo hčerko Betty, zetom Frankom in tremi vnuki smo šli kropit in molili sv. rožni venec ob krsti. Naslednji dan so šle članice na pogreb, to je 200 milj od tukaj. Podružnica je darovala za sv. maše. Isto so se udeležile pogreba Billa Alexa. Dne 26. oktobra je umrla sestra Anna Stare, ki je bila naša u-stanovna članica. Bila je samo par tednov na bolniški postelji. Pogreba, kot je bil njen, nismo še imeli tukaj med Slovenci. Hčerka vodi pogrebni zavod in zato je bila večja možnost imeti nekaj posebno lepega. Članice so se v velikem številu udeležile molitve rožnega venca na predvečer pogreba. Vencev je bilo za tri avtomobile. Naše članice so jo spremile z gorečimi svečami, ter so stale kot častna straža ob krsti v cerkvi. Na grobu sem opravila obrednik, ki je za umrle sosestre. Pokojna Ana je bila vesele narave in njena prisotnost je vedno pomagala k dobrem razpoloženju na naših sejah. Zapustila je dva sina, dve hčeri in dve vnukinji. Podružnica je darovala za sveto mašo zadušnico. Bog daj umrlim večni pokoj in naj bo vsem Bog dober plačnik. Preostalim izrekamo globoko sožalje nad izgubo svojih dragih.
Naš letni izlet se je vršil 28. septembra in takrat je bila pokojna sestra Stare še z nami. Peljale smo se v Greenwood Dake. Bil je krasen dan in sonce je lepo ogrevalo ozračje. Vsi smo bili zadovoljni s prijazno postrežbo in družbo.
Prosim vas, da pridete na mesečne seje. Dvorana mora biti plačana in je žalostno, če je majhna udeležba. Pripeljite tudi kaj novih, ker nas je čedalje manj, da nadomestimo za tiste, ki so odšle za vedno od nas.
Važno sejo bomo imele 10. decembra in 14. januarja. Morda ste se starih odbornic naveličale in bi rade spremembo. Na omenjenih dveh sejah se mora vse urediti, saj ne bo sej v februarju in marcu, ker je preveč nerodno pozimi za tiste, ki delajo. Na januarski seji bo tudi volitev delegatke za konvencijo, ki se ho vršila v Chicago, v maju. Na zadnjo konvencijo nismo poslale delegatko, zato pridite na sejo, da nekaj uredimo. Ukre-
niti moramo tudi nekaj za našo ročno blagajno, ker veselic ne prirejamo in od nekje se mora dobiti sredstva za vzdrževanje poslovanja.
Sestra Judež je praznovala svoj 75 letni rojstni dan in z možem sta slavila 50 letnico zakona. Oba sta še čila Gorenjca. Mary je iz Jarš in mož pa iz Doba pri Domžalah. Čestitamo vama in želimo, da bi dočakala še mnogo srečnih in zdravih let.
Sestra Iva Ferari je nova stara mamica in tudi sestra Ana Cerar. Čestitke in srčne želje za zdravje novim mamicam in detetom.
Srečne, blagoslovljene božične praznike in zdravo novo leto želim vsem glavnim odbornicam, članicam naše podružnice ter vsem sestram SŽZ širom Amerike, kakor tudi vsem sopotnicam v Jugoslavijo to poletje. Bilo je krasno in želeti je, da bi spet skupaj potovale pod pokroviteljstvom SŽZ. Lep pozdrav.

Št. 93, Brooklyn, N. Y. — čas je,
da se oglasim, čeprav iz Clevelanda, kjer sem že delj časa in to pri hčerki, Helen Majer. Med tem časom sem bila že dvakrat v bolnišnici zaradi sladkorne bolezni, ki me muči. Počutim se precej boljše, hvala Bogu.
Nesreča in žalost nikoli ne počiva. Kruta smrt je nepričakovano posegla s svojo koščeno roko v Majerjevo družino ter vzela s seboj dobrega moža in vzornega očeta Louisa Majer, ki je dolgo let vodil trgovino z obuvali na St. Clair Avenue. Vsak, ki ga je poznal, je imel v njem dobrega prijatelja, zato bo pri mnogih zelo pogrešan. Poleg žene Helen, za-jušča tudi hčerko Ivanko. Naj počiva v miru božjem.
Globoko me je užalostila vest o smrti Mary Križman dobre prijateljice in zveste sosestre pri podružnici št. 93. Ona ni dočakala 2>5 letnice podružnice,
ki je bila v novembru, ker je v avgustu za vedno zatisnila svoje blage oči. Blaga Mary je bila vdova in mati dveh odličnih sinov. E-den je v službi Strica Sama v zračnem oddelku kot inženir in drugi je tudi, visoko izšolan v svojem poklicu. Pokojna Mary je bila vedno vesele narave in izvrstna družabnica, da je bil užitek biti v njeni družbi. Zavzemala je razne u-rade in posebno vešča je bila v denarnih zadevah. Meni bo zelo dolg čas po njej in isto tudi po New Yor-ku, kjer ste moje prijateljice. Voščim vsem skupaj srečne božične praznike in veselo novo leto. Tem potem se naprisrčnejše zahvaljujem vsem članicam Slovenske Ženske Zveze, podr. št. 99 in prijateljem, ki so darovali za sv. maše in za vence ter blagega pokojnika spremili k večnemu počitku.

HOW TO MAKE CHRISTMAS MORE FUN FOR THE KIDS!
Looking forward to Christmas? So are the children, but their sense of time—and their “frustration thresholds”—are much different from yours. And whether they quietly play—or noisily bray—during Christmas festivities will depend not only on their discipline but on your knowledge of psychology.
Here are seven tips from J. C. Penney Company to help smooth out some of the holiday wrinkles at your Christmas celebration.
1. A week before Christmas or even earlier, make up a special Christmas Calendar. Small children know that Christmas is coming, but they aren't sure when. Marking off the days on a large colored cardboard, perhaps with illustrations, keeps them from thinking each morning might be Christmas—and giving up in despair after the third or fourth day when it isn’t.
Also on your Christmas Calendar, list the special things you'll do on the days before Christmas—the trip to see Santa, the special baking treats to be made, the trip to get the Christmas tree. After Christmas is over, you may wisli to put your Christmas Calendar away with your children’s other papers as a memento.
2. Give your child a small present before Christmas. A new miniature car or truck for a little boy . . . an inexpensive rubber or rag doll for a small girl ... or, for older kids, a game to be shared and played while they wait for the Big Day can do a lot to keep the small fry happy and save your nerves. Some families have a custom of giving small, simple gifts to each other before breakfast on Christmas Eve. In some households, the present is given only to the first person on Christmas Eve to say ‘‘Christmas Eve Gift.” Such customs can make Christmas more fun not only for the children, but for the whole clan.
3. Keep the child in mind when selecting his Christmas toys. Too many grownups choose toys they would have liked to own as children —instead of considering the child’s own likes and dislikes. The basic rule is “know your child,” but other cues can also be helpful in picking toys that will be “child’s play” in your household. One method recommended by Penney’s is to take a cue from TV programs your child watches; if he enjoys the Flintstones, for example, he’ll probably love the toy versions of these cave characters. Toys he’s seen advertised on TV also are a good bet to make a hit-watch for TV dolls and toys in the stores.
In general, you’ll probably please a small child more with several inexpensive items than with one big,
lavish gift. The presents children get should strike some sort of balance: I*et the grownups in your family team up to get some toys for indoor, some for outdoor, play; some toys to be played with alone, others to be shared.
4. Let the children help make a special Christmas decoration, jf they have an old hula hoop left over from the fad a few seasons ago, it can be used to make a dandy Christmas wreath: one of them suspended from the porch ceiling makes an ideal holder for a string of Christmas lights and holly. If you have three of them, try inserting them into each other to form a sphere. In the center of the sj#iere, hang a light, a bell, or some other festive ornament.
5. When you take your child Christmas shopping, make sure he doesn’t get lost in a crowded store. Safety precautions recommended bv Pen-ney's are (1) wear a bright coat, or an unusual scarf he’s familiar with —so he’ll be able to distinguish you easily from Wie dozens of other grownups. Most small children get lost because they are following a coat which looks exactly like their mother’s. (2) Go to the toy department first—- manv small children break away from their mother while she’s shopping	elsewhere—because they can’t wait to see it. (3) If the child is old enough to find his bearings, pick out a convenient spot in the store to meet at—just in case you do get separated.
6. Keep easily prepared food on hand to prevent the children from filling up on sweets. Christmas week is Pull of occasions when meals are delayed—the lengthy school pageant, for example, the crowded traffic coming home from shopping trips, the drop-ln guests who overstay. Putting in a supply of extra, nourishing foods your child enjoys—and which can be quickly prepared—often saves the day. Eggs, peanut butter, soups served quickly outpoint a full-course dinner which isn’t ready before he becomes overtired—and a behavior problem.
7. Plan the day after Christmas as a rest day. Many well-behaved children rebel when the day after Christmas isn’t given over to playing with their toys, showing them to their friends, and going at their own pace. The “let-down” from frenzy is welcome—and you deserve a quiet day as well. Let the chores wait awhile, while you go out and play in the snow. To many parents and children, the day after Christmas is the best day of all.

HOW TO DECORATE CHRISTMAS TREE

It's fun to branch out and try some new tree-trimming ideas. As a start, why not have several trees, to spread Christmas “all through the house”? There are lots of possibilities.
Whether or not your living room is big enough to welcome the traditional big tree, you can now buy additional table-isez ones—36 inches— specially treated to be fire-resistant and with a base containing a special formula to retain their freshness for weeks.
A white tree decorated with red roses will be dazzling in the dining room, and a kitchen tree laden with cookies (the kind that come with a hole in the center) will delight the kids. For Dad’s den or a boy’s room, spray a tree with aerosol shaving cream—it puffs up to look like real snow!
Kor a Christmas party for grownups, try a tree with olives and other canapes impaled on cocktail pins and hung tantalizingly on its branches.
Making a colorful ribbon tree—with snippets left over from your package wrapping—won’t keep you tied up very long.
The birds on the windowsill will welcome a special tree tied with suet on its branches—and provide you writh with a merry Christmas morning watching them at work.
These, and other tips on tree dec-
oration have been suggested by the Halvorson family of Duluth, Minn., growers and suppliers of table-size Christmas trees:
1. Start your “special tree” on its way to becoming a real masterpiece by deciding on the basic color green, pink, white, blue or silver-you want to work with. Today’s processed, table-size trees are available in a variety of colors.
2. Investigate different colors and shapes of lights on the market. These include lights with bubbles inside, those which flash on and off, and those which come from the tree for safety’s sake.
3. If possible, allow yourself plenty of time for tree decoration- -and share the job! Waiting until two a. m. on Christmas morning may make a great surprise for the children, but you should at least assemble your decorations, tools, stepladder—and a hiding place for the tree—beforehand. Tree decorating may take longer than you think, as does the assembling on complicated toys to go under it.
4.	Don’t forget the Christmas star— to go on the very tip of the highest branch. To make one, take an ordinary paper cup and mark the side of the rim in five even divisions (using a piece oi string); then with scissors cut down to the base and press out flat.
Cut each petal into a point. Next, with a piece of aluminum foil, cover the star on either side—snipping off excess bits of foil. Star can be held to tree with cellophane tape.
5.	Keep extra lights on hand in case some burn out. While many strands of Christmas tree lights now on the market will wark wtih a burnt-out light having a “dud” will often destroy the symmetrical effect.

7.	Enjoy your task. Fresh evergreens automatically say "Merry Christmas”—and bringing in the tree officially establishes the season. Why fret il some minor effect doesn’t turn out just the way you planned it? After all, it’s the spirit that counts!
DECORATING HER OWN CHRISTMAS TREE is almost as exciting to a child as unwrapping gifts on Christmas morning. There’s nothing that gives youngsters more pre-Christmas excitment and fun than having their own tree to decorate.
