New data on the avifauna of Culisicke bare wetland area in Krka National Park (Croatia) Novi podatki o avifavni močvirja Culišićke bare v Nacionalnem parku Krka (Hrvaška) Jeno J. During the investigations performed between 2002-2004, 211 bird species were found to occur within the current boundaries of the national park (Kralj 2007). In the publication reporting on the results of the former survey, the seasonal dynamics of birds was given emphasis (Stipčevic et al. 1990), whereas the latter paper focused on changes having occurred during the period between the two surveys (Kralj 2007). However, there is no indication of the spatial patterns of bird species in the area, as no such faunistic data have been published. One of the most interesting wetland habitats found in the national park is the Culišićke bare (WJ75, 10x10 km UTM), suggested as a site to be drawn under strict protection due to its natural values (Susic et al. 1990). A total of 68 bird species were reported to occur within this area (Stipčevic et al. 1990), and during the field surveys in 2004 and 2005 a total of 80 bird species were observed (Mužinic & Purger 2007). A further 11 species (printed with bold letters in the list) were shown to exist in the area during two additional field visits. On 12 Apr 2006, a total of 39 species were recorded within Culišićke bare swamp area, while on 22 Oct 2007, 24 species were observed despite the strong wind (Table 1). Thus, the number of species occurring within the Culišićke bare wetland area has increased to 91. Thorough faunistic studies were not performed in the summer and winter months, this fact suggesting that further species are expected to occur.
