Chicago’s Slovenian-American Radio Club Folk Dancers have just pirouetted before the cameras at the conclusion of one of their “It’s Polka Time” TV performances. The group of six couples has performed successfully many times, earning for themselves complimentary comments. Their performance at Lemont, Illinois, for the S.W.U.’s annual holiday on July 21st, was another of such presentations and the colorfully costumed group will also appear in Joliet and Cleveland this fall. Pictured here, left to right, are boys: John Vuk, Nace Rebrica, Joe Sobočan and John Kos; and the girls are: Maria Lonec, Verdean Lauretig, Rosemary Dolenz and Margie Prah. Aren’t the boys stand-ly proudly? And, the girls smile sweetly, knowing the show has brought a bit of Slovenian culture, and costume before the American public. Photo by P. Posar. GEMS OF THOUGHT If you ever find happiness by hunting for it, you will find it as the old woman did her lost spectacles, safe on her own nose all the time. ' Josh Billings. * Medical science has developed so amazingly within the past few years that it is now almost impossible for a doctor to find anything all right about a patient. Habit gets a fellow. Many a father who worked his way through college is now working his boy’s way through. * Happiness sneaks in through a door you didn’t know you left open. John Barrymore. * It is no use for a man to say there is no place like home, then put off until the last hour before getting there. ZARJA »DAWN OFFICIAL ORGAN OF THE SLOVENIAN WOMEN’S UNION OF AMERICA VOL. XXIX — No. 9 SEPTEMBER, 1957 LETO XXIX — Št. 9 THE PRESIDENT'S MONTHLY MESSAGE It was a pleasure to meet so many members and friends on Zveza Day in Lemont, III., July 21st. It was a day filled with many spiritual blessings and a reunion of so many members and friends from distant states. The arrangements of the day were carried out by members of branch no. 2 of Chicago, Illinois who had a tremendous job of preparing a delicious dinner for so many pilgrimagers. Everything was carried out beautifully including the juvenile games and program where the adult and Junior dancers performed artistically for which we are most grateful. I had made up my mind to visit, on this occasion, the Mount Assisi Academy. So, that afternoon and in company with our Honorary President, Mrs. Marie Prisland, we met the Venerable Sister Mary Sybilla, a very charming Sister, who later introduced us to the Principal, Sister Mary Margaret. We were shown through the beautiful building. Every student who intends to go to such an Academy, should see this school first and I know, woul'd not choose another. It's modern throughout, a beautiful structure. My appreciation to Sister Mary Margaret for presenting us with the 1957 yearbook, the Assisian, as a remembrance. With the month of September the fall season starts and school days are here again. We are also approaching the season of the year when we enjoy the nicest of Sports, BOWLING! Now is the time to start organizing bowling teams and Leagues in your localities. The 1958 Tournament will be in Chicago, III. Many branches will start their meetings again after a summer let-up and I hope that each member at least will bring “ONE NEW CANDIDATE” with her to the meeting to be enrolled as a new member for this PRE-CONVEN-TION DRIVE! Potem so govorili o vremenu, o letini, o živini, o draginji in pomanjkanju denarja; beseda denar je Bajžlju in Bajžljevki kar sekala v dušo. Agato je stiskalo pri srcu. Denar, denar denar!
