Acrocephalus 23 (113-114): 113, 2002 113 Acrocephalus – short-term journal program Acrocephalus – kratkoro~ni program revije On September 23rd 2002 the Editorial Board of the journal Acrocephalus prepared a short-term program with aims for future work. Acrocephalus is an international scientific and specialist ornithological journal published by BirdLife Slovenia. It constitutes the major part of the specialist research activities of the DOPPS – BirdLife Slovenia, but its scope is both national and international. The journal has an international editorial board. Articles are published in Slovene and English. The scientific and specialist articles deal with all aspects of ornithology: ecology, biogeography, biology, ethology and conservation of birds. The preference is for contributions concerning the regions of SE Europe and the Eastern-Mediterranean region, but other interesting articles are also welcomed. Four issues are published in each volume, but there can also be additional supplements on thematic issues. Scientific and specialist papers are categorized under three headings: a) independent articles (longer articles, which report at length on particular ornithological themes. Such this articles may be treated as original scientific articles, review articles or professional articles) b) short articles (shorter professional articles, which discuss important ornithological themes, some specialist conclusions or preliminary ornithological studies) c) ornithological notebook (short contributions, which present certain ecological, ethological or faunistic notes about birds from SE Europe and Eastern-Mediterranean region; these contributions are sorted according to the states in the region). Planned future development of Acrocephalus - aims and vision: a) to become one of the most important international ornithological journal in the region of interest; b) to achieve greater recognition for the journal (e.g. by being reported in Biological Abstracts); c) to increase the number of articles in English (to at least 50%); d) to increase the distribution of the journal in other countries (by exchange and subscription) – the role of the publisher (DOPPS - BirdLife Slovenia) is essential here; e) to encourage and help writers to prepare and publish good papers (making use of the reviewing procedure and by editorial suggestions); f ) to collect and publish contributions important for general knowledge of the avifauna of Slovenia, SE Europe and the Eastern-Mediterranean region. One of the Board members, Prof. Dr. Kazimir Tarman best summarized the above program: “The proposed scope of the journal to engage in depth in understanding the birds of the Eastern-Mediterranean region is an excellent idea, which will increase the specialist and scientific significance of the journal.” Al Vrezec & Borut [tumberger Acrocephalus 113 - 114.qxd 28.3.2003 8:52 Page 113
