Novi grobovi HOSNI MUBARAK POTRJEN KOT NASLEDNIK SADATA; ATENTATORJI FANATIKI Iz Clevelanda in okolice Na češkoslovaškem vrašanje k veri kljuk priibku PRAGA, Češ. Lani so policisti aretirali 3 Ameri-kance, ki so hoteli tihotapiti izvode sv. pisma v državo. Neznanci so vdrli v neko cerkev in odnesli — 20 izvodov sv. pisma. Sinoči je predsednik Reagan sprejel bivše predsednike in go. Včeraj in danes dopoldne so bili izgredi v južnem egiptskem mestu Assjut, kjer so muslimanski skrajneži napadli policiste. Libijski radio je pozval Egipčane, naj vdrejo v bolnišnico in uničijo S.adatovo truplo. —-----o------- Če še niste naročnik Ameriške Domovine, nostanite še danes! trgovanja s Sovjetsko zvezo in drugimi državami vzhodnega t.j. moskovskega bloka. Seje kluba so Kile redne vsak mesec in neformalni sestanki vsak petek. V kavarni sta bili dve natakarici. V klubu ni nikdar prišlo do nesporazuma. Politične zadeve so bile sicer izključene, dasi so ruski člani dosledno p r o t e stirali proti vsemu, kar je bilo v korist sovjetskemu režimu. WEEKLY • TOUR VIEWS THE LATEST NEWS AND VIEWS | YOUR ETHNIC FORUM Hewdfiapeb Jame« V. Debevec, Editor OUR NEWS FRIDAY MORNING, OCTOBER 9, 1981 1,400 See Kres Dancers Perfect Cultural Performance Yeung Kres Daneers Salute the Mdienee A few of the 72 Kres Dancers pictured above bid sc-long to the largest crowd in the history of the Slovenian National Home on St. Clair Saturday evening, Oct. 3. The youngsters shown here are (Left to right): Leni Selan, Peter Košir, Dana Stefančič, Tom Zakrajšek, Monika Selan, Robert Grdadolnik and Annie Kurbos. (Photo by Jim Debevec) By JIM DEBEVEC Editor The professionalism of a highly polished Broadway show made its appearance in Cleveland last Saturday evening in the form of the Kres dancers who held the largest attendance in the history of the Slovenian National Home spellbound for three hours of the most sophisticated, flawless dance and acting performance ever to hit the stages of the concert hall. This week New Yorkers are paying $100 a ticket and waiting in line for eight hours to see a new Broadway show with two intermissions, one of which is 55 minutes long l for a dinner break. We had two intermissions at the Slo. Home last Saturday, one of which was about 55 minutes in duration to enable those in attendance to taste some of Julie Zalar’s superb culinary expertise. The ticket line was only five minutes long, —but the performance was the same as in the Big Apple — DAZZLING. What makes a good show? One, it must be entertaining. Two, it should be clever — original — and lively. Three: Its execution (performance) must be perfect. The Kres dancers did all three and added pathos, comedy, fast-paced and slow-mo-tion routines along with spectacular costumes and variety. There were 72 dancers ranging in age from 2-year-olds to young adults. Besides the Slovenian numbers there was a Western scene which drew the most applause, and a traditional harvest corn-husking event done in synchronization. It was the good guys versus the bad. There was live music with the Duke Marsic band as well as recorded songs. Mr. Gaser sat in front left with a two-way radio keeping the band in communication with the directors. Choreographers and Program Directors Bernarda Ovsenik and Breda Lončar must be given orchids for their masterful job in taking the raw talent and shaping it into the beautiful flower that blossomed last Saturday. It was polished to perfection. Each dancer worked to master his movements resulting in a performance which sparkled with the brilliance of a ten carat diamond spotlighted in the Fifth Avenue showroom of Tiffany’s. This was not just a Slovenian happening, it was an American cultural extravaganza. It was a delightful heart-warming adventure, a once-in-a-lifetime mind enriching experience in refined suavity. This prestigious show was not the work of paid profes- sionals. The dancers, the directors presented their evening’s entertainment as a matter of pride in themselves, their nationality, and America. As a matter of fact it cost them —- in time and money to present the program. And what is their reward? A round of applause at the evening’s end. So why do they work so hard, sacrificing so much to please an audience? The answer — is to further promote our Slovenian and American culture and heritage. After all, the Slovenians art the cultural kings of the world. The proof is in the pudding. MANY ACTIVITIES LUKI ACTIVE SLOVENIAN! By MADELINE DEBEVEC This past week Slovenians^ in the greater Cleveland area had many opportunities to attend social gatherings. Among them: Saturday, 1400 present at the Kres program. Sunday, 732 pork and chicken dinners were served at St. Vitus prejubilee dinner. Later that same afternoon about 325 persons enjoyed warm friendship among their fellows at the clambake and steak dinner at Slovenska Pristava. On Monday evening the American Slovene Club had Mr. Jack Craig as its guest speaker. He is from the development and technical section of The Cleveland Electric Illuminating Co. His great grandfather arrived in Cleveland in 1840 and was the builder of the Detroit-Superior Bridge. It was evident he was very sincere in his love of Cleveland and in promoting its assets. Mr. Craig is available for lectures to any group. He can be readhed by calling 622-9800 and tell him We recommend him. You will be pleased with an educational and informative lecture of Cleveland.
