Neuradno poročilo naznanja, da je bilo med njimi več Rusov in neka neidentificirana poljska kneginja.. Dežela se hoče iznebiti teh nevarnih prevratnežev in istočasno izkaditi njihove pete kolone. V teku 24 ur bo aretiranih še kakih 300 komunistov. Velika večina aretiranih v tem prvem protikomunističnem pogonu je Poljakov, Čehov, Jugoslovanov in Spancev. Use Bight Light for Homework f Back-to-school days bring back-to-homework evenings for the children—reading, writing, arithmetic and countless questions for parents. You may get by without brushing up on your long division, but certainly you will want to check up on the lighting in your home. You can help your child learn faster, get more out of his study time if you make sure he has a well-lighted place in which to do his homework. The sense of sight, accounting for about 85 % of all our impressions, dominates the normal learning process. Not every child has his own room. But no matter where he does his homework, a “sight-saving” lamp will help him by providing plenty of light without glare or shadow. Here : are some suggestions: ^ - If your child studies at the kitchen table, a pin-to-wall lamp with a 150-watt bulb and large shade will provide suitable light. For students who like to work at a bridge table in the living room, ; 'illuminate the table with a floor lamp having a 300-watt bulb. Place [the lamp as close to the table as possible. The breakfast nook makes a good study spot, but it usually lacks •apace for a floor lamp. Use a wall or table lamp with a 150-watt bulb. : l~ Lamps with tiny or colored shades, short squatty lamps, or lamps [which throw all the light in one direction—like spotlight—are not 'intended for study purposes. Long Home Stand Gives Indians Edge on Rivals Three years ago it was the Yanks and the Red Sox with the New Yorkers finally finishing on top. Then, in 1948, things got so torrid that those same two clubs and the Indians moved into a triple race for the lead as late as Sept. 24 before Cleveland won out in the only playoff in the American League history. And last summer it was New York and Boston once more with Cleveland and Detroit close behind until shortly after Labor Day. This September the picture is little different except that Detroit is the club to beat and the Indians appear to have the best chance to do it although New York and Boston certainly have a controlling interest. Just by way of furnishing a yardstick to help evaluate the Indian’s chances, it’s worth noting that in both 1948 and 1949 Cleveland was exactly four and a half games behind the leaders on Labor Day evening. In the first of those two campaigns they were still four games back of Boston as late as Sept. 14th, yet closed ground to share the pedestal just a week later on Sept. 22nd. With 3 games sitll to play, the Tribesmen held a two - game bulge, but Detroit upset the apple cart and tossed the flag race into the historic playoff at Boston. However, last year it was exactly the opposite as the Indians fell from contention after Labor Day, skidded to fourth place, 11 games out, and then revived at the end to win seven in a row and finish third, eight games behind the winning Yankees. There is no question but what the 17-game home stand gives the Indians an edge over their eastern rivals, the Yankees and the Red Sox, but unfortunately, Detroit enjoys the same advantage. So, in the final analysis, it all boils down to five late-September games between Cleveland and the Tigers. Either club will probably have a chance to take the pot of gold simply by getting hot in that one week. Special games coming: First Ladies’ Night in Tribe history on The FBI and Sabotage Some years ago a Presidential directive was issued providing that the Federal Bureau of Investigation take charge of investigative work in matters relating to espionage, sabotage, subversive activities and related matters. Now President Truman has again called attention to this directive, and added the suggestion that all patriotic organizations and individuals, as well as law enforcement officers, report all information concerning such matters to the Bureau. The FBI is as near to you as your telephone. The organization is interested in facts, not gossip or idle rumors. Some bit of information which may seem inconsequential to the individual coming upon it may be just what the FBI needs, in conjunction with other data in its possession, to make a case. No one should make private investigations in this field —they can only lead to hysteria and witch-hunts which in themselves weaken our internal security. If any fact of any nature comes to your attention which suggests sabotage or espionage, report it at once. This is vitally important now. The forces which are working to undermine us are not always easy to identify. They have been trained in deceit. They utilize cleverly camoflaged movements, such as certain peace groups and civil rights organizations, to advance the non-communist world. And the center of that world is the United States. Remember — the FBI is our first line of defense against the destructionists within this country. Help it whenever you can, and without delay. ST.
