Ob pogledu na potek in razvoj dogodkov leta 1977 lahko čisto mirno ugotovimo, da je položaj v svetu precej drugačen kot v prejšnjih letih. Veselo božično oznanilo o miru ljudem na zemlji se je ob tem Božiču spremenilo iz zgolj pobožne želje v stvarnost, ki ima več izgledov na uspeh kot kdajkoli v preteklih dolgih letih našega časa, in to na samem mestu, kjer je bilo to oznanilo nekdaj razglašeno, v Sveti deželi. Seveda je do resničnega in trdnega miru še dolga pot, ker so na Srednjem vzhodu odnosi med tamkajšnjimi narodi močno zapleteni, s krvavim nasiljem zastrupljeni in z rivaliteto velesil na tem svetovno pomembnem prostoru komplicirani. Tu je namreč poleg obstoja suverene izraelske državnosti v spor zamotano tudi arabsko olje, dostop do njega in nadzor nad njim. Radi tega je reševanje problemov na Srednjem vzhodu izredno težavno in prav to je tudi razlog, da se v 30 letih obstoja Izraela položaj ni boljšal, pač pa vedno poslabševal do stalne in ostre vojne napetosti. V potekajočem letu smo skoraj tik pred Božičem bili priča nenadni spremembi. Z zgodovinsko odločitvijo egiptovskega predsednika Sadata, da obišče Jeruzalem, se je začela uresničevati druga polovica angelske poslanice na S/eto noč, ki govori o ljudeh dobre volje. Ta dobra volja se je vidno manifestirala v izjavah voditeljev obeh držav, ko je Anvar Sadat stopil na izraelska tla: “Ne več vojne, nikoli več!” četudi se bo pri delovanju te dobre volje pojavilo sto zaprek in tisoče hudih besed, nova doba v razvoju na Srednjem vzhodu se rič več ne more vrniti v staro, nevzdržno situacijo. O treh vodilnih ljudeh dobre volje, ki poganjajo mirovno kolesje, ameriškemu predsedniku Carterju, egiptovskemu predsedniku Sadatu in izraelskemu ptedsedniku vlade Beginu, so listi s poudarkom naglasili, da so vsi trije globoko verni možje, ki v treh različnih veroizpovedih priznavajo in častijo istega Boga. Slava Bogu na višavah in mir ljudem na zemlji, ki so dobre volje! Nov duh se je pojavil v odnosih med narodi, o katerem si pred letom dni še sanjati nismo u~ pali. Tudi po drugih predelih Zemlje se ta duh uveljavlja, leto 1977 nam to resnico zgovorno potrjuje. Preden so bili podpisali dogovor o varnosti v Evropi 1. 1975 v Helsinkih, so na pritisk Zahoda komunistični partnerji pristali na tretjo košarico sporazumov, ki govori o spoštovanju človekovih pravic. Ne komunisti, ne svobodni svet niso . takrat verjeli, da bo iz te košarice prišlo kaj pozitivnega in dobrega, misleč, da je bilo to dodano zgolj zaradi lepše- ga. Pa je januarja 1977 ameriški predsednik povzdigni I svoj glas v vmestitvenem nagovoru z izjavo, da morajo človekove pravice postati o-sredje svetovne politične aktivnosti. Tudi tokrat je javnost mislila, da so le lepe besede in je njihovo tehtnost in pomen globoko podcenjevala. Vendar je neutajljh’o dejstvo, da je od tedaj dalje spoštovanje človekovih pravic v ospredju svetovne politike, o čemer zgovorno priča konferenca v Beogradu, kakor tudi dejstvo, da nihče ne bo nikoli vedel, koliko človeške mizerije je bilo odstranjene in celo življenj rešenih zaradi pritiska Amerike na vlade po svetu, da bodo diplomatski odnosi z Ameriko odvisni od njihovega spoštovanja človeškega dostojanstva pri njihovih lastnih državljanih. To je zapisal eden najodličnejših časnikarjev naših dni James Reston v listu The New York Times. Val človečnosti je v tej ali oni obliki zajel vso zemljo v tako vidnem obsegu, da je celo Sovjetska zveza začutila novi veter, pa naj je zapihal iz evrokomunizma ali konference v Beogradu ali od kod drugod; prisiil jo je v defenzivo, s tem pa dosegel velik uspeh. Sapa novega duha je leta 1977 odpihala dotedanjo izolacijo komunistične Kitajske ob spoznanju, da je doba avtarkije ali samozadostnosti ali dominacije močnejšega nad šibkejšim dokončno prešla; spoznala je, da jo ne, bo pvotiameriška in protijapon-ska politika pripeljala nikamor. In se je v tem letu pobotala z obema in sedaj podpira ameriško-japonske dogovore o varnosti vzhodno-azij-skega prostora. Svet se pogasi, pa vidno spreminja. Za to priča Indija s svojim povratkom preteklo pomlad k demokraciji in človečnosti, o kateri je sanjal Mahatma Gandhi. Priča razvoj v Evropi, ki je še pred letom dni grozila, da bo zavrgla zmerne politične smeri in voditelje v Angliji, Franciji, Zahodni Nemčiji, Italiji, Španiji in Portugalu in se vrgla v nevarne skrajnosti, a se je ob koncu leta vrnila k zmernim voditeljem srednje poti. In v naši stari domovini je novi duh človečnosti in sodelovanja prisilil oblastnike, da so odprli vrata ječe' takim disidentom, kot sta Mihajlo Mi-hajlov in Franc Miklavčič, kar dokazuje, da se tudi tam ne morejo upirati novemu razvoju. Nekaj je v zraku, nek element dvoma v pravilnost starega, preteklega, neko priznanje, da se svet spreminja v prihod nove dobe prilagoditve in sporazumevanja. Leto, ki gre v zaton, je odprlo vrata v nov, drugačen svet. To je velika reč! Če pa bodo narodi in države v novem letu ta vrata prestopili, ‘bomo povedali čez eno leto. L. P. in kulturnem sodelovanju med obema deželama, pa tudi na splošno o odnosih med Zahodom in Vzhodom. Naši i ojJki v SR Sloveniji v materialnem pogledu ne živijo sicer ravno v blagostanju, toda na splošno je njihovo Življenje dosti dobro in v primeri z razmerami v drugih republikah SFRJ kar udobno. Kljub komunističnemu redu so Slovenci ostali pridni in vztrajni delavci vsa.] tedaj, kadar delajo izključno za sebe. Seveda so tudi v Sloven,ji področja, kjer vladata revščina in stiska. Med ta sp’ dajo Kozjansko, Slovenske gorice, dei Slovenske krajine, Suha krajina in Breginj, v manjši meri Bela kra ,ina m odročni deli Notranjske. Politična svoboda v SR Sloveniji je omejena na Komunistično pa ;tij > in na njeno množično organizacijo Socialistično zvezo delovnega ljudstva. Sodnika Franca Miklavčiča so v'--sodili v zapor, ker je objavil v tržaškem časopisu Beograd. Zdi se le, da je ta podpora na žalost res bolj “glasna” kot pa atvrna. Obe glavni organizaciji koroških Slovencev na nemečo teh stavi jata vse na Ljubljano in • na Beograd ter uri tem pozabljata, da koristi komunističnega režima v Ljubljani in v Beogradu niso vedno in v celoti ismveine s koristmi koroških Slovencev. Slovenci sme. raztreseni po vsem svetu. Kakih 80,000 jih dela in ž-vi v Zahodni Nemčiji in drugih državah svobodne Evrope. Prenekateri so vzeli k sebi svoje družine in se verjetno ne bodo nikoar več vrnili domov. Celo tisti, ki bi se radi vrnili, se premislijo, ko vidijo, da ne morejo dobiti zanesljive in odgovarjajoče zaposlitve. Slovenske naselbine v naši deželi in v Kanadi se starajo, zanimanje v njih za slovenske stvari peša, ko stan rod odmira, mladi pa se uživlja globlje in globlje v novo družbo in se postopno vanjo utaplja. Nekdaj bogato kulturna iivljenje je začelo omagovati, prireditve so postale že redke, Lc jih je bilo nekdaj kar po vet na isti dan, da človek ni /eclel, kam ki šel. Pri pono-ivitveni novi maši mu je pridigal takratni škocijanski kaplan father Julius Slapšak, ki živi danes kot upokojenec v župnišču pri Sv. Vidu. V svojem taboriščnem, rimskem in ameriškem življenskem obdobju je zlasti tudi veliko pisal v Ameriško Domovino in druge slovenske liste, medtem ko je bil prej v svojih begunskih listih organiziral vrsto dlklostiranih slovenskih listov. Kdo ve, kaj mi božja Previdnost pripravlja in zakaj mi je ohranjala željo po delu v misijonu. 7 let sem imel le medle stike z zambijskim misijonom. Predvsem sem se posvetil študiju. Od časa do časa sem dobil kakšno pismo od misijonarjev in SZ. Obiski misijonarjev so osveževali moj poklic. se je povečala zavest poklicanosti in predanosti misijonu. Pred leti smo upali, da se bomo zasidrali v zambijskem misijonu, sedaj lahko rečemo, da smo ustaljeni. Jezuitski zambijski provincial in lusaški nadškof sta našim zaupa] a važne postojanke. P. Kokalj je bil imenovan za župnika v centru Lusake, kjer naj bi pomagal ravnovesju v mednarodni skupnosti, ki se zbira v cerkvi sv. Ignacija. Med drugim je uvedel liturgijo, ki je bolj j prilagojena domačinom. Za njim je 10 let delal v Materu, kjer je poleg nove, čudovite cerkve, u-trdil vernike v duhovnem pogledu. O. Janez Mlakar se je priljubil ljudem v župniji sv. Kizita. Ob cerkvi je postavil temelje za župnijsko dvorano, ki jo zdaj, v njegovi odsotnosti, dograjujejo. Lepo se razvijajo tudi krščanska občestva, ki jih je organiziral pomočjo laiških voditeljev. P. Radko Rudež, naš prvi zambijski misijonar, je v pre-teklin lelih postavil tri cerkvice, severno od Lusake. Vsakdo hvali njegovo znanje jezikov. Ko sem ga s p. Marijanom Šefom obiskal v dolini Katondwe, S sem spoznal, da njegovo znanje izvira iz ljubezni do Afričanov. Veliko se zanje žrtvuje in moli. Misel, da hoče umreti v misijonu, ga ne zapusti. Br. Jože Rovtar in g. Lojze Fodgrajšek delujeta v bogoslov' ju, priljubljena med dijaki in profesorji. Laiški misijonarki Kristina Mlakar in Bariča Rous se požrtvovalno in uspešno u- Stanko Rozman piže ' dejstvujeta v svojem poklicu. P. Jože Grošelj in g. Janez Muj driča sta trenutno v Kanadi O. Jože se bo vrnil v Zambijo čez dve leti, g. Janez pa nekoliko pozneje. Pričakujemo še kak poklic vrst slovenskih minoritov, da o. Miha Drevenšek ne bo sam Veliko spodbudnega slišim p. Mihi, nisva pa se še srečala Pozdravil pa sem sestro Zoro Škerlj, O.S.U., ko se je na poti v Rim in Kanado ustavila v Lu saki. Z najboljšimi željami smo se od nje poslovili 5. novembra za 15 mesecev. It was celebrated with a concert at the Slovenian Society Home on Recher Ave. in Euclid. This was a very happy day for the female singers. Their concert was well attended and enjoyed by all. It"will be nice to have some new voices join this group and will be appreciated by all. It was a very hard 10 years —and we all must help and give the Dawn Choral Group much courage. We must appreciate the work they are doing for our culture. This group is the only one of its kind. They blend the Fraternal Spirit with musical Spirit. Their Director is Mr. Frank Zupan. The Pianist is Donna Welshhons, and also assisting .them was Jeff Pecon orchestra. After the program, it was dancing and it' was quite an 'evening. Jeff Pecon is a young [orchestra.
