Spregovori o svojem upanju, ki je v zaupanju v Boga, ki je obudil Jezusa. Zato je prepričan, da bo tudi on zaživel s Kristusom po smrti, ki se ji nezadržno bliža tudi zaradi svojega misijonarskega delovanja. Zaveda se, da človek živi v minljivem svetu in se bliža nebeški domovini. Vendar pa se mora na prehod pripraviti. Pavel ni hotel biti podoben prestrašeni ovci, ki hrabri druge v tropu - ki so ravno tako izgubljene v svetu. Želel je oblikovati skupnost, ki bo uspešno prestala tudi največji preizkus - srečanje s smrtjo. Med svojim oznanjevanjem je sejal seme nesmrtnosti, prepričan, da se bo s svojimi učenci kmalu spet srečal pri Kristusu. Človek se za svoja dejanja odloča svobodno in po lastnem premisleku. Zato samo on ve, iz kakšnih nagibov je to storil in ono opustil. Ker je pa večina naših dejanj vidna na zunaj, dobivajo v očeh ljudi dostikrat drugačno vrednost od tiste, ki smo jo mi vanje položili. Evangelij nam danes pripoveduje, kako se je to dogajalo Jezusu. Ko je izganjal hudobne duhove, je bilo to za ljudi nekaj izrednega in je pri množici žel občudovanje. Našli pa so se ljudje, ki so trdili, da Jezus to dela v povezavi s poglavarjem hudih duhov, z Belcebubom. To so trdili ne zato, ker bi v Jezusovih dejanjih našli kaj slabega, ampak zato, ker jim on sam ni bil po volji. Ni izšel iz njihovih vrst, ni obiskoval njihovih šol, ni se pridružil njihovi stranki. Med ljudstvom je njegov ugled iz dneva v dan rastel. Bali so se, da bo njih, pismouke, popolnoma zasenčil. Treba ga je bilo očrniti in mu vzeti ugled. Kako? Izganjanj niso mogli zanikati, ker jih je delal javno. Priznati, da izganja z božjo močjo, bi pomenilo priznati njegovo božje poslanstvo. To bi bilo za njihovo zaverovanost vase preveč ponižujoče. Kaj torej storiti? Najbolje bo, če njegovo početje pripišejo poglavarju hudih duhov. Danes se ljudje za obstoj hudih duhov malo menijo, ime njihovega poglavarja Belcebuba pa našim ušesom zveni smešno. Ne moremo pa reči, da danes ne bi našli ljudi, ki bi bili kaj hitro pripravljeni nekoga, ki ga neradi vidijo, očrniti pred drugimi. maša in procesija sv. rešnjega telesa in krvi pri sv. gregoriju velikem Praznovanje sv. Rešnjega Telesa in Krvi je kanadska škofovska konferenca prenesla na nedeljo. Že lansko leto smo na ta dan naredili eno samo sveto mašo, in sicer ob 10h dopoldne; del v slovenščini, del v angleščini. Pri maši sta pela slovenski in angleški zbor. Po maši pa smo se med pesmijo zvrstili v procesijo - vreme je bilo tud v Hamiltonu ravno pravšnje. S križem in svečarjema na čelu, banderi, pevci, duhovnikom in ministranti, pa seveda vsi ostali, smo šli najprej h kipu Marije Pomočnice, kjer je bil prvi oltar. Pripravila in okrasila ga je Olga Glavač. Drugi oltar, ki ga pripravljajo članice Katoliške ženske zveze, so pripravile ob igrišču. Lepo okrašen, v senci dreves, je sprejel procesijo. Tretji oltar pa so pripravili pred vhodom v Villo Slovenio. Društvo sv. Jožefa je prispevalo $100 za rože. Po tretjem oltarju smo se v procesiji napotili nazaj v cerkev k zaključnemu blagoslovu. Hvala vsem sodelavcem pri bogoslužju, pevcem, organistu Carlu, Ivanu Mertuku in Johnu Horvatu, ki je dirigiral. Hvala vsem, ki ste pripravili cerkev, posebej Olgi, ki je poskrbela, da so rože na svojem mestu. Hvala ministrantom in vsem, ki ste nosili bandera in tudi Michelle za potresanje rož. 286 | VESTNIK 2018 VESTNIK 2018 | 287 288 | VESTNIK 2018 Maša in procesija pri društvu TRIGLAV v Londonu VESTNIK 2018 | 289 Že kar nekaj let je tradicija, da imamo prvo nedeljo v juniju procesijo sv. Rešnjega Telesa in Krvi tudi pri društvu Triglav v Londonu. Včasih nam je uspelo, da je bila procesija zunaj, letos pa se je ravno v popoldanskem času nebo zaprlo in pošteno zalilo polja. Procesije nismo odpovedali, smo jo pa na hitro prestavili v dvorano. Prinesli so mizice in okrasje, ki je bilo zunaj v dvorano in tako smo po maši naredili še porcesijo; nekaterim je kar prav prišlo, saj bi zunaj težje stali in hodili. Hvala vsem, ki ste se potrudili in pripravili oltarje najprej zunaj, potem pa še noter. Hvala tudi naši zvesti organistki Gabrielli, ki je spremljala pesmi, da je tako lažje peti. Hvala vsem sodelavcem, bralcem, ministrantom, prav tako pa tudi vsem ki ste pripravili dobro kosilo. This campaign will involve each of our Parishes. The proposed goals focus centrally on Parish life, but will also help enhance several Diocesan ministries important to parishioners. The Diocese wants to hear from as many parishioners as possible as they evaluate their proposed campaign plan. Your feedback will be critical to the success of this effort. Gospel Mark 3:20-35 Those who feel powerless in the grip of evil come to Jesus for forgiveness and healing, though not everyone recognises in him the Spirit of God. "Anyone who does the will of God... is my brother and sister and mother." Illustration There is a village in Wales with a tragic story. Its name is Beddgelert, which means the burial place of Gelert. This legendary hero was a dog. Tradition has it that a thirteenth-century prince called Llewellyn was given the hound by his hated overlord, King John of England. One day Llewellyn returned home to find his baby's cradle overturned and the baby gone. As the dog ran up to greet him, Llewellyn noticed that its muzzle was smeared with blood. Thinking that the dog had savaged his child, Llewellyn drew his sword and killed it instantly. Then, from beneath the cradle, came a cry. There was the baby, unharmed - and, next to him, the lifeless body of a wolf. The dog had bravely defended his master's beloved child from the wolf's attack. Llewellyn had misjudged the dog, jumping to conclusions before knowing the facts. Prejudice blinded him to the possibility of goodness. He buried the dog with honour, but the dying whimpers of that loyal hound stayed with Llewellyn. They say he never smiled again, sickened that in an act of heroic love he could perceive only madness and evil. Gospel Teaching Some people mistakenly saw madness and evil in Jesus. He was not like other healers who used potions and incantations to make people better: Jesus lifted people from their crippling sense of worthless-ness with a touch. Unlike the religious teachers of his day who were preoccupied with ritual correctness, Jesus taught that goodness and kindness pleased God most. He felt great warmth towards men and women who were honest about themselves and who recognised that they needed help. You are my brother, my sister, my mother, he said to them. Many sensed that God had come among them. However, in today's Gospel we hear how Jesus' family feared for his sanity and scribes from Jerusalem even accused him of being possessed. It is ironic that the ones who failed to recognise goodness when they saw it were the religious experts. What they did not 292 | VESTNIK 2018 understand, they discredited. Since Jesus did not fit the conventional idea of what a holy man should be, they assumed he must be doing Satan's work. Jesus' reply is as startling now as it must have sounded then. Satan is tied up, he told them, like a strong man whose house is being burgled, looking on helplessly while his possessions are carried off. Jesus was trying to show them that God had broken into all their lives; that the world need no longer be locked in Satan's dungeon of despair. Everywhere, forgiveness and reconciliation were releasing people and restoring their sense of well-being. Satan was powerless to stop it because Jesus could not be seduced by wealth or comfort. Pleasing God mattered to him more than popularity; his trust in God's love made him unafraid. By believing what God said and doing what God asked, Jesus disarmed the prince of devils - and against such faith, evil is powerless. Application We live in a time when the difference between good and evil seems less clear than ever. Where honesty and selflessness are viewed as something weak or foolish, then even people of faith may convince themselves that right is wrong, and that wrongdoing is nothing to worry about because everyone else bends the rules. There may come a time when, like the scribes, we can no longer recognise God's presence in our world, nor understand how much in need we are of healing. We have, of course, a helper. It is the work of God's Holy Spirit to awaken us to truth and to change us from within. Should we refuse to be honest with ourselves, however, we may be pushing away God's freeing, life-giving Spirit. Today's Gospel issues a grave warning to anyone whose awareness of right and wrong has become dulled. It is far from a joke to reject the one who comes to rescue us. No one is beyond mercy, but to receive God's forgiveness, first we must want it. So it is that we come before God, understanding how much in need we are of God's compassion; caring deeply about all that remains in us to be transformed. Humbly, we join the crowd who gathered at the home of Jesus in Capernaum, imperfect people like ourselves who desire to live in a way that is more pleasing to God.
