Lateranska bazilika v Rimu velja za prvo in prvotno papeževo stolnico in je še danes sedež rimskega škofa - papeža. »Kako ljuba so tvoja prebivališča, Gospod nad vojskami! ... Nathan Cirillo, Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent, Alexander Zolis in še posebej Zachary Jelovšek, sin slovenskih staršev, Petre roj. Kraner in Bogdan Jelovšek in stari starši iz obeh strani. MOLITVE 2. NOVEMBRA 2014 NA POKOPALIŠČIH: HOLY SEPULCHRE GATE OF HEAVEN OUR LADY OF THE ANGELS V nedeljo, 2. novembra 2014, na dan vernih duš, je naš škof Douglas Crosby daroval sveto mašo, ob dveh popoldne na glavnem pokopališču, v kapeli mavzoleja Holy Sepulchre. Tu smo se zbrali v mavzoleju in ob molitvi in pesmi molili za rajne. Healing Mass for Those Mourning the Loss of a Child Losing a child is a painful and life-altering experience for parents, grandparents and other family members. The feeling of loss, regardless of the amount of time that has passed, is often more profound during the Christmas season. A Diocesan Healing Mass, meant to bring hope to all those trying to cope with such grief, is planned at the Cathedral Basilica of Christ the King for Sunday, December 7, 2014 at 4 pm. Any one who has lost a child of any age from any cause, including those that have lost a child prior to birth, or who have had a still birth are invited to this Mass celebrated by Bishop Daniel Miehm. God is close to those who mourn, come and experience His healing presence. Registration is preferred, but not necessary, as it will assist us in knowing how many spaces to reserve and to ensure we have enough of the small memento each family will receive. Please call Lena at 905-528-7988 ext. 2249, or register at: www.hamiltondiocese.com. Coping with the Holidays_ .. .when you have lost a loved one. First Reading Ezekiel 47:1-2. 8-9. 12 A vision of the Temple, God's house, where a stream of living water makes all things grow. Second Reading 1 Corinthians 3:9-11. 16-17 St Paul likens us to a building, founded on Christ, where everyone has his or her part to play. Gospel John 2:13-22 Jesus drives the traders from the Temple and speaks of the new "holy place", the sanctuary of his risen body. "He was speaking of the sanctuary that was his body." Illustration The little church is closed now, but not knocked down. Some parishioners protested against its demolition and so it still stands in its own grounds, with the priests' house next door. It is a simple design, and possesses a simple loveliness. Built in the middle of the nineteenth century with the "pennies of the poor", it served a community of mainly immigrant Irish people in a growing industrial town in northern England. Coal mines and cotton mills provided the employment, but life was hard and money scarce. The church provided the gathering point for an immigrant community and a school was built beside the church for the education of the next generation. Inside the church a feeling of warmth and cosiness existed. Statues of saints stood in the porch windows, Patrick and Teresa and Vincent de Paul giving welcome to people as they entered. Around the walls the Stations of the Cross reminded people of the way of life we are all called to tread as we try to follow the Lord. At the top of the church the warmth of the sanctuary beckoned and invited attention and prayer - sanctuary lamp and candles burning, flowers faithfully arranged and incense in the air. During Mass or Benediction, people sang their hearts out, expressing their love of God and devotion to Mary, mother of the Lord. This gathering, week by week, gave inspiration and hope of heaven to a people who spent their days in dark mines and noisy factories. It lifted hearts to a horizon of better things. We have not here a lasting city, and the people of the industrial north thanked God for that. Gospel Teaching When Jesus went to synagogue, he took his place among his fellow townspeople, to listen to the word of God, to learn how to live a good life, to pray for the grace to be a good person in this world. A day would come when he was invited to be the reader of God's word, and then he would recite the prophecy of Isaiah and tell the listening crowd that he was now the fulfilment of that word. God had come among them in the flesh and blood of Jesus. On the day he came to the Temple in Jerusalem, Jesus was appalled at the corruption of people, turning God's house into a market and a place of exploitation. When challenged about his behaviour in driving the traders out, Jesus spoke about another temple that he would build. It was his prophecy about his resurrection, its meaning hidden from his hearers, but remembered later by his friends. The place where God dwells is in a human heart, freed from corruption and prejudice, open to welcome and receive all people of goodwill. Later, when St Paul preached about the Lord on his missionary journeys, he used this image of a building to describe the real "house of God", which is made up of people joined together in the Holy Spirit. Application Today's feast turns our eyes to Rome and to the cathedral church of the Bishop of Rome, the Pope. In Rome the church of St John Lateran is the church that houses the local Christian community, and this feast celebrates that local place. But because the Bishop of Rome is the head of the Church universal, this feast is also and equally the feast of every local community throughout the world. Today's feast is the feast of this local Christian community. St Paul says that we are a building and each one of us a living stone. As such, we give one another support by living beside one another and being there for one another. We provide a roof overhead and a shelter from the cold. We give warmth to one another, and welcome. Sharing in Christ's body, we give sustenance to one another. We belong to one another. We are family in Christ Jesus. Most of all, in his teaching, Paul says that "the temple of God is sacred". Paul is speaking now not about a building but about each and every human being. It is a wonderful grace to know and to see that every person in this world is sacred, and to be treated with the utmost reverence. As the people long ago in that northern English town knew, there is more to life than dark satanic mills. There is reverence for one another. REMEMBRANCE DAY, November 11 Canadians pause on this day in silence to remember who died in war and to pray for the victims of aggressions and inhumanity throughout the world. This is a day to prav for peace, to consider what we are doing as individuals, as a community and as a nation to bring God's peace into the world. This is a day when a believing community should rededicate itself by prayer and action to the ideals Jesus gives us in the Beatitudes. yf£ svete maše - mass times: Ponedeljek/Monday - Petek/Friday: 7:00 p.m. Sobota/Saturday: 8:00 a.m. - slovenska / in i\r Slovenian 5:30 p.m. - slovenska / in Slovenian - Nedelja/Sunday: 9:30 a.m. - slovenska / in Slovenian - 11:00 a.m. -angleška / in English krsti / baptisms: Po dogovoru, prijava 1 mesec prej. - For an app't, call one month before. poroke / marriage: Prijava eno leto prej. / For an app't, call one year before the wedding date. spoved / confessions: Vsak prvi petek ob 6:00 p.m. / First Friday of the month 6-7:00 p.m. (or by appointment) bolniki -don bosco Sporočite, če je kdo bolan ali v bolnišnici, da ga obiščemo.
