In sta kosila. S posebnim navdušenjem so ga spremljali tisto noč. POST MORTEM c It was rather awe-inspiring and i heartening to see such a goodly num- t ber of Catholic young men marching J into St. Mary's Church on February j 17th at the 8 .o'clock Mass and re- ( ceive Our Lord in Holy Communion. / Heartening to the extent that it rep- c resented just about 75% of the group which had been present at the Holy t Name meeting just a few days before, i The group seemed to be full of enthu- 1 siasm and there was a feeling of J warmth and vigor in the Step and t tread of these young men. All in honor of the Holy Name of Jesus. < What an honor for them, and what ail 1 honor for Our Lord Himself! There 1 seemed to be even more inspiration i inside St. Mary's Church itself as two young men, dressed in the garb of the U. S. Army, served as altar boys. Somehow it made the Mass so much more alive and real, šo much more meaningful, so much closer to God Himself. The Lord must have been pleased. In the afternoon the greater majority of the members were also present t to aid the neophytes become members, in the strict sense of the word. Six-. teen new members pledged themselves i to conduct their lives as Catholic men, ' no matter what the circumstances, | and to give shining example to others i who might hesitate. It takes courage | to do this and we take great pride in welcoming these new defenders of the Holy Name of Jesus and of .the Catholic faith. After an inspiring and well-conducted service, Father Celes-nik closed the day with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament'. Now all this deserved some appreciation, especially, when you consider that these "He-men" had to get up earlier than wont and then come back again in the afternoon to make a few pledges and promises to whom? Just to Our Lord Himself! So we all wound up in the Study Club rooms where we greeted the old members, who, incidentally had been present at the initiation of the new members jjfcjJ had been praying for these new members. Co-operation in the real sense of the word. Some of us had dinner not too long previously but you'd be surprised to see the "sizzling canines" (hot dogs to you) get washed down with beer and "vodka." The smoke, was so thick that we had to call on rador to clcar , the atmosphere and to discover who it was and what- and why. All in all, we enjoyed ourselves immensely, and if we hadn't had the excellent service of the entertainment, committee and the cooks, we wouldn't. be able to brag about this good time "had by all." The boys really put themselves out with their good serv-; 1 ice, attention to each member person-1 ally and we're sure that it was deeply I appreciated. Let's not forget that it costs money 1 to run a printing press and issue news-1 papers, but "Ameriška Domovina" has [ graciously overlooked this matter in ; our favor and so we gratefully acknowledge the space allotted to us for our news flashes. We say "thank > you" deeply and sincerely and wish • the success that a newspaper of this ' type deserves. Wie hope that some i time in the future we may be able to I return in kind for the wonderful good i "Ameriška Domovina" has done far us. Thanks a million! We extend a grateful "thank you1 to the Young Ladies Sodality for re-) membering us by invitation to their s lecture held Tuesday, February 26th in ) the Study Club rooms. Now, fellow members, how about ; turning out 100% for the next Holy . Name communion group and show the 1 people of St. Mafy's parish that there are REAL MEN in the parish. If you show courage to be a real Catholic, . Our Lord will go you one better and . HELP you to be a real Catholic. Our . Lord will not be outdone in generosity. . | Try it and see for yourselves. [ P.-T. A. CARD PARTY, r HUGE SUCCESS 3 The chairman and her committee , wishes to extend sincere thanks and appreciation to all the patrons, donors and members who cooperated in making the Pre-Lenten Card Party of the 1 P.-T. A. a success. Work and fun made up the preparation period. To prove the point here s are a few incidents of the great event. a Charniaine Bolden was the girl who fixed up that first prize so wonderfully with her crocheting needle. Among the funny incidents of'the e day, we think this one was the "tops." Picture to yourself a busy chairman at her home getting ready to haul all ;t prizes, etc. to the place of the party. 2 Of course, her hair is plastered down g drying up for the evenings affair. Now 3 we continue with the story. 3 A large red dump truck pulls up be- 4 fore the Mooney fesidence, early Sun-1 day morning to pick up all the prizes q and food needed. No doubt, it's a 7 fact, Mrs. Mooney' was plenty excited. People passing by,'seeking a house 0 for rent, ran up to the lady to obtain the address of the landlord. "We ain't moving, sir; we're just getting ready for St. Mary's P.-T. A. Card Party 3i which will be held tonight," yells Mrs. Mooney. "Sorry, lady, I misjudged, n when I noticed that large truck in the front yard." "You're excused and 10 sorry for having given you false hopes," answered Mrs. Mooney, cheer-s_ fully: She certainly has a good sense '. of humor, we're telling you. Frank Ucman of St. Christine's was? the gracious truck driver aided by Eddie Libut, both close friends of the Mooney's. Amongst the passengers on the truck load were Dick and Bill Mooney, sons of our active chairman, j Unloading at the. Church, Frank took on the next crew of workers and went his way to pick up ch iirs from I the Svetek and Zele Funeral Homes, j Mrs. Mary Koketec felt honored to drive to this destination. Why every- ! one was anxious to drive, via truck that day. Hurrying from her homo, Mrs. Turner bummed a ride with the ' truck crew from Svetek's to the church. The ladies were just thrilled by this experience. We bet, theynev'cr enjoyed themselves so much, since their childhood. Are we right? ? ? Even little Johnny Jevnikar Jr. wa:, doing his bit in helping with the dusting. Mother worked beside Johnny to see that the work was done well. Johnny will be a great help, when he j grows up to be a big boy. Mrs. Opalek, Mrs. Ellen Shaber, and Mrs. Zupan did their share in the clean up of the mess before our party. Thanks. We had a few very special guests | that evening. They were: Mrs. Emil A. Bartunek, our organizer; Mr. John Prince, our councilman; our Pastor, Msgr. Vitus Hribar and the assistants, too, were there. At about 10:15 P. M. our bowlers came in a grand rush. All wanted ;o have a few games before the end. Although everything was well planned, there still was a bit of a complaint as far as the heat was concerned. The windows were nailed shut, but we will open them up for our next card party. From Mrs. Svetek's thirst, we concluded that we will have to set up a soft drink stand in our club rooms Not a bad idea, ladies. Why, so hot it was in the room that the water pipes began to sweat. Sure enough, when the rain bega-rf to fall from these pipes, our players made a quick move. The pipes were just as excited as the committee, it being the first big affair in that hall. In the check-room, we found Mr. Dick Mooney and his sons. We don't know what to say, but there was a little mix up in the end. A pair of ladies Nylon hose was found the next day. The ownet* has been traced and will receive them shortly. For the success of our first card party, we are thankful to everyone. «■ the Appearances to the contrary, j here are two dogs, prize collies R owned by Carl J. More showed up than expected But not one was sentt home rejected. We all ate and we all sat We all danced to the music by Matt,; All joined in the laughter and fun | A good time was had by everyone!! j Yep!! That's the whole "h.'.yride" in a nutshell! What?! You want more? — Well, this is what you get; for being curious! . i Barty L. drove his dad's milk truck 1 and when you saw what all piled out of it, one would think they were at a circus!—Ken Tomsic, Tony Stanich, Stan Arko, Ed Avsec, Tom Jurlina, Fran Zak, Millie Erbeznik, Alice Kle-mencic and Dot Sehwerko were his passengers. The road was bumpy but . they made it in one piece! By the way, did anyone notice Alice Klemencic's "German outfit?" It served it's purpose, didn't it Alice? "Women Will be women!" Always talking about clothes and hairdos. Caught in the. corner Iwere Jean Per, Fritz Sustar, Dot Cimperman, Ag Kosec, and Fran Zak discussing "Plaid shirts" and various hairstyles. Not one of them seemed to be satisfied with her own hairdo.—Why bother, girls? Just cut it off! The Godic's seemed to be having a grand time—especially Julie! She kept insisting that she was having "such a good time"—and she really was! Curly Jo served the potato salad and was all smiles when she was told how delicious it was—And why not? She had a "hand" in the making of it. —Oops!!—and here we thought there were "potatoes" in it! Millie Virant and Helen Meglich spin around the fl°or >'ke a top when they "pivot" to the polkas Matt plays. Note to Matt: Why don't you make a few recordings of your polkas etc. —then' maybe next time you could really enjoy yourself instead of playing all night.—What am I saying? Having tun were two great pals— Kingzette and Intihar of the three "famous Als!" F. Brodnik always says "When pleasure interferes with business, cut out the busines." It worked in reverse last Saturday, didn't it, Frank? Frankie Laurich said he just couldn't dance—and no wonder—with those "canai boats" he was wearing. Tony Brodnik thought he lost his woolen cap and really looked worried. A bit on the "quiet side" were Johnny Orehek, Ed Snyder and Ann Ko-renchan. Wonder why? | Olga Mozic and Dickie Kocevar looking "cute" in their identical out-I fits. Helen Pevec and Bob Novak seemed to be enjoying themselves in a quiet sort of way. Well, this about winds up the hay-ride news and for more news about it or any future Orel doings, just drop around to our meetings. Our next meeting will be on March 13, Wednesday. Don't forget to come. NOTICE TO ALL OREL MEMBERS All the Orel members are cordially invited to attend both the wedding and reception of one of our members, Olga Mozic, to Richard Kocevar, Saturday, March 2, 1946, at the 11 o'clock Mass in St. Vitus Church. Reception is being held at Mlynko's Hall, 7900 Stt. Clair Avenue. Dinner is served at 7:00 P. M. Wc all wish both of you loads of luck and happiness in your wedded life. ST. IF YOU WANT TO! •iThe wages of sin are death!" so the Good Book do declare. But in plain ordinary language it means you can go to hell if you insist on living the way you want, instead of the way you should. One of the requests of living the way you should as Good Catholic Men is to belong to the Holy Name Society :.nd go to Holy Communion with the group monthly. Of course no one will grab you by the sruff of your neck and force you to go; for you probably are bigger physically for one thing. But you are practical enough as grown individuals to know by now that anything you get must be payed for. Living the way you should not is evidence in itself that you would rather ! pay your Debt to God for your misdeeds in hell. I Instead of paying your bills to God in hell why not do the sensible thing and start now by resolving to go to the Holy Name Communion Mass and Communion Sunday, March 10 at the 11:30 Mass. BOWLING CHATTER Last Thursday night again proved to be a most interesting evening for us bowling enthusiasts. To some of the teams, the evening was disastrous and very uninteresting. There were the usual ups and downs. The Clovers, leel by Captain Herman Meglich, kept up their hot Dace and tightened theii» tn stranglehold on first place with a three | game sweep over the faltering Barons, | The first round proved a neck and neck affair and produced a photo finish and the two pin deficit suffered by the Barons seemed to take all the wind.oui of the boys. After a very slow start, the Inlaws give hint that they h|ve found theh stride and are happily riding along ir second place three points behind the leaders. To the "Gutterb.ills" we extend hum ble apologies for the indifferent man iter in which we shoved them int< 'second-last place in last Friday's sheet We theiefore let it be known that th< , "Gutterballs" arq in no way bowlinj deficients as they'are in a'fourth-placi j tie with the Barons and their eye se i on the top rung. h'EAM STANDINGS, FEB. 21 ........... 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
