JULUA. Doma sem našel družino v bedi in brez denarnih sredstev. Spolyar. In kje naj ga dobe stsri in onemogli delsvci? Stavbinska In poaoj. društva nudijo lepo priliko hraniti, kolikor delavec sploh more hraniti. Namen stavbinskih in posojilnih društev v vseh državah Je služIti članom v enem In istem smislu. Obresti društvo plačuje vsakih 6 mesecev, to Je, prvi petek januarja in julija. Ob nedeljah so različne seje. Da so me nepovabljeni gosti dostikrat "napunčali" in mi dali "črne oči," tega br. Moja družina in jaz. Zakaj sem to'dobil? 6 tem je same cela stvaT kon- čana. Ako zajameš prgišče vode in blata is mlake, imaš v roki stotine teh živalic. šicah in školjkah (oatrige, polži, raki i^td.) žuželke in drugi. Vretenčarji se začno pri ribah in potem slede dvoživke (žabe) kuščarice, ptiči in sesalci. Sesalci stoje najvišje na drevesu življenja in na lestvi razvoja. Tudi sesalci se dele v mnogo družin. Najodličnejša družina so primati, h katerim spadajo lemurji ali pol-opice, opice, človeške opice in človek. Človek je po svoji telesni organizaciji vretenčar, sesalec in primat. Med človekom in ostalimi vretenčarji ni v telesni zgradbi nobenih temeljnih razlik. Ta pro-cea prvotnega porajanja živih bitij Je moral trajati dolgo, dolgo dobo. Bilo je zelo, zelo počasno nastajanje pod tedanjimi okolščinami in pogoji. (Nadaljevanje prihodnjo aredo.) 7''*»I > TISOCLETNICA ISLANDSKEGA PARLAMENTA Sedaj praznujejo Ialandci tisočletnico svojega parlamenta. Slične proslave ai ne more "privoščiti" noben evropeki narod in vendar si je Ialand priboril popolno neodvianoet šele L 1918. Factful Fables By Covlagtoa Hall FURTHER EXPLOITS OF EFFICIENCY Once upon another Morning After the Night Before, the people of Ssmsland woke up with the dark suspicion that the Speedup did not necessarily produce a plentitude of Life, Liljsrty and the Pursuit of Happi. noes, as Efficiency had prophesied. They were, therefore, anything but Optimistic. In fact, not even the Great Engineer could make them believe that million» of buetod Farmers, bankrupted Merchants and Jobless Workers were sure signs of Returning Prosperity, around the Corner or anywhere else. / Cynicism waa the order of the day. The Bone-headed Maaaes were faat losing all respect for everybody who waa Anybody. Confidence refused to be confident. People cared leas and leas whether they starved to death Soueed or Sober. Crime Wave succeeded Crime Wave. The Peelera handa were full. So were the Jaila, Penitentiaries,^Asylums and Charity Joints. It waa Simply Awful! The Prison Population waa threatening to faat become the Great Majority. And then what? Well, aince the Voice of the People is the Voice of God, and the Majority can do no wrong, it waa threatening to take over the Country from the Beet People and Ruin it. How That Was Poesible, no one knew. But That was the Dspger. Even the Squalid South was in revolt. Its Ivory wss nowhere nesr so Solid ss had been counted on. That wss the altuation. Disloyalty, Sedition and Treason were everywhere Rampant. It was absolutely imposible to Reason with the Hungry Belliee. Even Red Scares did not scare Any Sense into them. All you could get out of them was, "When do we Eat?" And Spiritual Food didn't go. Nothing would aatisfy them but Ham an'! As remarked, it waa an Awful and getting Awfuller all the time. So, Something had to be done About It. But what? Eureka! Call in Efficiency again. He was called and, needless to say, he heard the Coin, and done his Duty as always. He lost no time in Lost Motions. "The Trouble," he said, "Is thst We sre producing Too Much. Ws hsve more than We can Consume. That is the Cause of Depression. . Thst is the Reason why so msny Suckers csn't hsve enough to Est snd Wesr. Gst rid of this Surplus, snd All will be well with Us." Asked how to do it, he promptly replied: "No, Raising Wsges snd Shortening Hours is Dsngerous. They have come to-believe, too many of them, that they are entitled to a Higher Standard of living than the Tim-buctooiana or Coolicane. They have become Spoiled. And Raising Wagea will only spoil them Some More.-They have already had too much Pampering from a Paternal Government. Besides, it is to the Foreign Market and not to the Home Market that We ahould look for our Salvation. That being the fix we are in, this is the thing to do. Cut out what Loet Moiione that are left. Speed the Speedup, Rationalise! Get Busy and go sfter the Fordtgn Merket. Millions are starving throughout the World. They ail need Fobd. Tens ef millions of Chinamen, Indians, Africans snd South Americsns sre wsn-' dering around nslced snd unsshsmed. They sll need Clothes. We hsvs ths Food. We hsve the Clothes. Our people have so much more of both than they need that We csn sell them no more. Therefore, Reduce Wagesl Speed Up and get the Business! Just think of it I Persuade the Chinamen only to add only One Inch to their Shlrttalls and the prosperity of New Englsnd and ths New 8outh is instantly assured! Hop to it snd aU Will be well with Us!" So thst is whst "We" sre now getting ready to do. * Moral: Considsr ths condition of your own Shirt-tall flrat. _ Chicago Federation Chicago Federation of SNPJ lodges is only s small one at present. In the course of the next few months It is our dsslre to increase the scops of our field, with sn intense drivs to oocure the remaining lodgss of the SNPJ into the Federation. Without a question of doubt a federation such ss ours, functioning properly csn bs of grest help to the lodges and its members. We hsve not hsd a permanent federation before, but we qpn point with pride to the other similar fodsrations. We can point to the oldest of the SNPJ Federations, in Ksnaas, where it has been In service for 82 years. All but pne lodge of that district (eome 20 of them) have been affiliate^ stesdil-ly. It has been reported thst even that lone one hss joined the others this year. Look upon Minnesota where the only forward movement ia that of the SNPJ Federation. At one gathering aome 80000 Jugoslavs aaeembled under the aus-picee of the SNPJ Federation. Gass upon Cleveland where the SNPJ federated lodgee have or will pur-chaae a regular farm for outings, excursions and pic-nica for their members. There are others, but the Pennsylvania Federation moet be mentioned. Even in theae hard times thla 8NPJ Federation working in unity kae helped to organiss two new English fpesking locals reoently. Now, if Kansas, Minnesota, Clsveland, Pennsylvania and otkers can do it, Chicago snd Illinois csn do It. Ws need the help snd cooperation of every lodge. We need the affiliation of every lodge. We have 26 adult members and 16 juveniles. That could be improved a lot if every member would wake up and try to get a few new members. Also, why not get yourself a transfer, you young members, of our Senior Lodge? Come to our meetings, see for yourself if all you hear is true; be your own judge. NORTH GERMAN LLOYD llrouirkton, Pa.—People may csll me an snti-so.-xlallst, etc., but only because I am not In league with any organisation that wanU to overthrow our government. Our government may not be the tie* that there Is, but even as It is now, It is much better than the Socialism, that stands for new civilisation. "New civilisation." a word preached by the Socialists; half of thfm dont know what the worJ «tends for or what R means. They alio go on to say that all thinga should be owned in common and supplied for the rommon goes. If that principle were put Into force, we would have no matrimony anymore. And whoever heard of a great corporation or manufacture being run by the poorer class of people? Where would they get the money to begin with, and what la to become of the money made by the people? You and 1 Iwth know what Is going to become of the money: it Is going to be given to the leaders of this organisation to farther their own interests and when they get enough money together, they are going to skip, or vanish, leaving you to bold the bag. They also go OS to say that they promise a more abundant life. Another catch phrase of theirs. There la only oae person who can give us more abundant Ufe and that Is the l«rd o«r Savior.
